Chapter 3

Aurora’s POV

“Aurora!”

The last thing I saw before darkness took me was Damien rushing toward me.

His face was pale.

For a moment, I wondered if he was afraid.

Then everything went black.

When I opened my eyes again, my throat felt raw.

A woman’s sobs came from beside the bed.

“Damien, you shouldn’t have done that. She almost died.”

The voice belonged to Bella.

I slowly opened my eyes and saw her. She was sitting beside me, tears streaming down her face.

As I stared at her I could see the resemblance between us except that while I had an air of arrogance and confidence she had an air of innocence, the type that attracted men like Damien to always treat her like a damsel in distress.

“Even if Aurora was wrong, she’s still your wife. You shouldn’t have punished her like this,” Bella was saying.

Damien’s voice was cold. “She poisoned my son. I couldn’t let it go.”

Bella lowered her gaze. “I know. But our baby is fine now. Please don’t hurt her again.”

I almost laughed.

How kind of her.

I turned my head. “Water.”

Damien immediately picked up the glass. He brought it toward me and wanted to feed me, but I took it from his hand and drank it myself.

“You were unconscious for almost a day,” he said.

I said nothing.

Bella stepped closer. “You scared us, Aurora.”

I looked at her.

“I’m sorry about what happened,” she said softly. “But please don’t hurt my son again. He’s innocent.”

“I didn’t hurt him.”

Her expression stiffened. “How could you say that? Even after everything you've done to our son Damien still stayed by your bedside and refused to see our son when he recovered.”

Damien’s eyes darkened. “Aurora, even after everything you're still denying it.”

“I didn’t poison your son,” I said, pushing myself upright. “I gave the bracelet to Bella in its original box so check the security footage. I didn’t have access to the bracelet after I handed it over. If poison was hidden inside it, the cameras will show who tampered with it.”

Bella’s face paled. “You’re accusing me?”

I smiled. “I didn’t mention you.”

“Aurora!” Damien’s voice cut through the room. “Enough. How can you accuse Bella of endangering her own son?!”

Bella’s eyes reddened. “I'm sorry for making you and your wife quarrel, Damien. I'll just leave and go check on our son.”

She turned and hurried out.

Damien watched her leave before looking back at me.

“You've changed since you woke up, Aurora. Whatever happens, you're still my wife so you don't have to keep acting out because you're jealous of Bella and my son.”

I nodded. “I understand that you can't abandon Bella because of your son. I'm not jealous and I'm not acting out.”

“I hope you mean that and you're not deceiving me so you can secretly hurt my son or Bella. I won't take it kindly with you, Aurora,” he warned.

I lay back down. “Aren't you supposed to be with your son? Go, he needs you.”

“I wanna be with you, Aurora, but —”

“I’m tired,” I said.

He stared at me for a few seconds before finally leaving.

The moment the door closed, I picked up my phone and called the hotel.

“I need the security footage from last night’s celebration. From the moment I arrived until I left.”

An hour later, the footage was sent to me.

I watched it carefully.

There I was, handing Bella the sealed box containing the bracelet.

She took it, and while Damien was distracted, she slipped away with it. Minutes later, she returned and the box was no longer sealed.

I forwarded the footage to Damien with a text message.

‘I told you I didn’t poison your son.’

I put my phone down.

I didn’t care whether Damien believed me anymore but I wouldn’t carry Bella’s crime.

Not this time.
