Suddenly, Dad held both my hands and said, “I know you were eavesdropping on my conversation with Jasmine. I saw your shadow reflected on the wall. Please don’t get the wrong idea. She didn’t mean any harm; that’s just her personality. I hope you don’t misunderstand.”

“I understand. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop at first. But I was curious. I’m sorry.”

Dad sighed deeply, then replied. “It’s okay. I’m not mad at you. As for the house, I bought it for you. So, no matter what happens, I won’t give it to anyone else, including Martin or Olivia. They will have their own rights. So, please accept my gift.”

It seemed like Dad was serious about making amends for his mistake. I felt sorry for him. Actually, I didn’t want to accept his gift because I didn’t want any misunderstandings with Jasmine. Besides, I didn’t want Dad and Jasmine to fight over the house he gave me. They had already fought that night. I was afraid that if I accepted my father’s gift, they would fight again.

“But, Dad.

  • My Husband's Betrayal   CH 86

HannahA few days later, the doctor allowed me to go home. It turned out that Chloe could also go home on the same day as me. April picked me, Mom, and Chloe up. To make it easier for us to meet our deadlines, Chloe stayed at Mom’s apartment until everything returned to normal. The twins and Chloe finally occupied Mom’s bedroom, which had been redecorated to resemble a girl’s bedroom. Mark delivered the work files to Mom’s apartment. As a result, Chloe and I turned the living room into a workspace. Laptops, printers, and stacks of files became our daily view. One afternoon, feeling bored, Chloe and I took a break. While waiting for Chloe to make coffee, I ordered pizza. We deliberately chose pizza for lunch.A moment later, Chloe came and sat next to me. She gave me a cup of coffee. “Thank you.”“You’re welcome. Did you order pizza?” She asked, sipping her coffee.“Yes. Hmm, the coffee is excellent. It makes my body feel refreshed.”“I’ll take that as a compliment. How about I cook di

HannahI struggled and tried to protect myself, but it was all in vain. Their strength was too great. I couldn’t see anything; everything was dark. It seemed like there weren’t many of them, maybe two or three people. But they didn’t make a sound.“No, please.” I begged for mercy. They kicked my body repeatedly. I knelt down, trying to protect my face and head, but as a result, other parts of my body became their target. I screamed for help, but I realized that the women’s restroom was quite far from the finance room and other rooms. Besides, the other employees must have gone home two hours earlier. The hallway was deserted.I couldn’t die. I had to survive. However, the kicks and punches continued to rain down on my body until finally I doubted I would live to see the next day. However, their cruel actions did not stop there. They poured water over my body. The cold pierced my whole body like thousands of needles. I cried and continued to scream for mercy even though I knew all my e

HannahHannah“It could be both. Don’t you have any memories of your mother?” I asked. Chloe shook her head several times.“As far as I can remember, I’ve been in the orphanage since I was a child. No one ever came to visit me. I don’t know who that woman really is,” Chloe replied.“Have you ever asked your two stepsisters about their mother?”Chloe nodded her head twice. “Yes. The three of them lived above a store. It was more like a room with an en suite bathroom. The room wasn’t very spacious. But it had a large front terrace, so they felt comfortable living there because they could enjoy the starry night sky every night. They said their mother came home with a different man every night. When their mother and these men came home, the twins were given money and told to go to the grocery store or wait on the terrace. The twins said that while they were waiting on the terrace, they often heard strange noises coming from inside the house, like moaning sounds.”“Then?”Chloe glanced ove

Hannah“How are you? Who are these two beautiful girls?” I asked as I approached and stroked the heads of the two girls sitting on Chloe’s left and right. They smiled as I stroked their heads.“I’m much better. They are my stepsisters,” Chloe replied, looking at her two stepsisters.“Introduce yourselves,” Chloe instructed her two stepsisters. Then, her two stepsisters introduced themselves. One was named Maria; the other was named Martha. They were identical twins, and it was difficult to tell them apart.“Nice names. Nice to meet you,” I replied. Then, Chloe’s two stepsisters got off the bed and sat on the sofa to give me a chance to talk to Chloe freely. They both read books.“They are good kids,” I said. Chloe nodded in agreement.I hugged Chloe, and then I sat down next to her. I looked at her face, which looked different from usual. “Tell me what really happened.”“I’m sorry; there’s something I haven’t told you. Actually, since I was a baby, I’ve lived in an orphanage without e

Hannah“Attention, everyone. I have some good news to announce,” Jasmine said. A broad smile spread across her lips. I saw my dad smiling broadly as well. Only Olivia’s face was expressionless. When Olivia faced me and Martin, she seemed stiff. We hugged, but she only answered my questions without asking me anything in return. The smile on her lips looked forced. But I didn’t want to worry about it. After all, we were distant, and from her birth until she was a teenager, we had never met, let alone communicated. So, it was natural for her to feel awkward. Especially Martin, who seemed indifferent and was enjoying the event because he saw a lot of food on the dining table. I heard my dad had also bought him a new car, so Martin definitely felt comfortable with my dad.“Steven and I are expecting our second child, and the doctor has predicted the gender of our baby, who will be born in a few months,” Jasmine announced. Her expression showed happiness.“Tell us the gender,” Martin asked.
