Chapter 2

Author: Ethereal
Tiffany held my hand and said, "Celeste, I'm glad you realize your mistakes. However, since the doctor has said that Dylan is in the final stages, we should let him go with dignity."

Phineas scoffed and said sarcastically, "Do you know better than the doctor? Stop making a fuss!"

I forced out a couple of tears.

"Dylan is still so young. I don't want him to die an early death. I've already contacted a specialist in Ebonas. It just so happens that they have a suitable liver donor. As soon as he's transferred, they can schedule a transplant surgery."

Of course, I was making all of this up just to scare them.

Sure enough, Mandy's face went pale, and she exclaimed, "No!"

My in-laws also strongly opposed the idea.

I shot a cold glance at Mandy.

"I've never seen a doctor stop a patient from seeking treatment. Or are you suggesting your diagnosis was wrong?"

Mandy's eyes flickered, but she stubbornly insisted there was no way she could have misdiagnosed Dylan.

Tiffany scolded me, accusing me of trying to kill her son.

She argued that flying to Ebonas would be too much strain on her precious son and that she was worried something might happen to him on the way.

Phineas went to block the door, refusing to let me take Dylan away.

I pulled out my phone and threatened them, "Fine. If we're not going to Ebonas, I'll invite the experts over here for a consultation instead. Dylan will surely get better!"

As soon as Mandy heard the word "consultation", she panicked even more.

Tiffany cleared her throat and shot Mandy a glance. She then pretended to compromise.

"Since Celeste has already contacted the specialists, let's proceed with that. Celeste, why don't you go home and rest first? Phineas and I will wait here until the nurse arrives."

It was clear that they were trying to get rid of me.

I nodded, pretending to be deeply worried as I left the room.

As soon as I was out of the hospital, I disguised myself and went to claim my lottery prize. This billion-dollar jackpot was my ultimate secret. I hid the money away, didn't make any immediate purchases, and even sold my car to avoid drawing any attention.

When I got home, I checked the account Dylan and I had agreed not to touch. I was shocked to see that the balance was zero.

Every month, we each transferred part of our salaries into this joint account for our small family and future education fund for our kids.

A wave of dread washed over me as I realized that the jerk had secretly withdrawn it all.

I immediately made a few phone calls, asking some friends to look into some things for me.

I couldn't sleep at all.

Since Dylan had planned to fake his death and run off with Mandy, he must have covered all his bases by now.

Fortunately, the house and car were in my name, so he wouldn't be able to sell them behind my back.

However, I still couldn't shake off this feeling of unease.

Just as I had drifted off to sleep, my phone buzzed incessantly.

It was 3 AM, and Mandy's sorrowful voice came through the line.

"Ms. Harper, Dylan's condition suddenly worsened. Despite our best efforts, he has passed away. Please accept our condolences."

Pretending to be shocked, I croaked, "What?! No way! I'll be there right away!"

I hung up, but the smile on my face wouldn't disappear.

I wouldn't let him off that easily.

I grabbed something from the drawer and rushed to the hospital.

In the room, Dylan was already covered by a white sheet.

I removed the sheet and stared at his peaceful face. This was probably the healthiest-looking liver cancer patient I'd ever seen.

Weren't they usually pale and scrawny? What an act.

Smack!

Without warning, I slapped Dylan twice across the face, but Dylan didn't even flinch.

Hmm, looks like they had given him a heavy dose of sedation.

Just as Tiffany approached to stop me, I threw myself on top of Dylan.

"Dylan, you heartless jerk! How could you leave me like this?!" I wailed, using this opportunity to check something.

His body was warm, and I could still feel a heartbeat.

This confirmed my suspicions.

  • My Husband’s Dead for Real   Chapter 9

Mandy had been fired from the hospital for her involvement in Dylan's fake death scheme. The case had officially been filed, and the investigation was nearly complete, with a court date pending. Even though she was finally facing the consequences she deserved, I still wasn't satisfied!I retrieved their chat and transaction records from Dylan's phone. I almost vomited as I scrolled through their sickening messages and explicit photos and videos.I didn't expect that over the years, Dylan had sent Mandy money on every holiday along with gifts. He would even order her food delivery and flowers on random days, all while playing the perfect husband in front of me. Who would've guessed that he was a master of time management?Even when we went out for something as simple as getting my nails done, he found excuses to "buy coffee" and would sneak off to meet Mandy for a quick hour in a hotel room! The thought of those two vile people made my skin crawl.I gathered all the evidenc

Someone in the crowd suddenly shouted, "Before we call the cops to get our money back, let's take some stuff to settle the debt! Come on, everyone, grab something!"I stepped outside and coldly watched them loot the place. Dylan had probably spent most of the money from his online loans by now. The house was filled with brand-new furniture and electronics as well as some gadgets I'd never even seen before. Well, it didn't matter anymore—they were all gone in an instant. My in-laws tried to argue with the mob, but they were no match. A few neighbors had come to watch the scene unfold, and I sighed dramatically."Not only did they help Dylan hide his affair, but they also planned the whole fake death scheme so he could run away abroad," I said, making sure everyone around me could hear my words. "I thought I was the only one who got screwed over, but it turns out they were running an illegal investment scam too."I spilled the dirty details of the Lovells' crimes, and soon, the n

A group of thugs stood at my door, looking like they were ready to beat me up if I didn't repay Dylan's debt. Moments ago, they had been pounding on the door so hard that it had woken up the entire neighborhood. I wasn't too worried since I wasn't alone. I took a deep breath and calmly asked them what made Dylan eligible to take out such a huge loan. One of them peeked into my house and explained that it was this property that Dylan had used as collateral. That made me even calmer."If you think I'm responsible for paying back the debt, go ahead and sue me," I said. "But let me make one thing clear—if anything happens to me, you'll be the prime suspect."I wasn't afraid of them coming at me openly. I was only afraid if they played dirty. The house was solely in my name, not Dylan's, while the loan was under his name. It had nothing to do with me.Then, I threatened to call the police, which finally scared them off.Everything was clear now. Dylan had made me the sole benef

I put on a shocked expression."Are you serious, Mom? Dr. Spears and Dylan were having an affair? Dylan was cheating on me?!"Tiffany realized she had slipped up and looked frustrated. She mumbled, "Dylan's gone, so what's the point of talking about this?"She wanted to brush off the whole situation with a casual remark after all this. No way!Acting as if I had just pieced everything together, I began to speak up, "So, what you're saying is, Dylan never had cancer? He faked his death just so he could run off with Dr. Spears?"No wonder he faked drowning and pretended to have late-stage cancer. He could have just told me that he had cheated. I wouldn't have refused a divorce—there was no need for all this."At that moment, with all the cameras on me, I continued, "Now, it makes sense why he made sure to write that will, making me the sole beneficiary and sticking me with his debts..."I laid out each piece of the puzzle carefully, then stopped at just the right moment. The on

Unfortunately, they were too late.Dylan was already engulfed in flames, his arms raised high as if reaching out. When Tiffany saw this, she let out a blood-curdling scream and fainted on the spot.Phineas and Mandy scrambled to catch her. They were so chaotic. Mandy was frantically trying to revive her by compressing her chest. When Tiffany finally opened her eyes, she began sobbing and screaming at me, "You murderer! You killed my son!"Hearing this, people around the room started gathering around us. Curious onlookers pulled out their phones to record, some even streaming the scene live."Mom, I know you're heartbroken, but you can't just accuse me like that!" I said innocently. "Dylan died from liver cancer that suddenly worsened. Wasn't Dr. Mandy Spears in charge of his case? You all saw the death certificate. Are you suggesting that she faked everything at the hospital?"Knowing people were filming, I deliberately mentioned Mandy's full name. All eyes turned to Mandy, wh

Mandy returned and was flabbergasted.I didn't give her a second to think."Dr. Spears, my in-laws seem to be unwell. Could you please take them for a check-up while I get my husband to the funeral home?"I had just taken Dylan's death certificate from Tiffany's hands. With this, there was nothing that could stop me from burning him alive.Mandy turned pale. "I'm more familiar with the funeral home's procedures, maybe I should—"Before she could finish, I cut her off sternly, "Dr. Spears, only the immediate family of the dead are allowed to handle the funeral home procedures. Who are you to Dylan? And are you the one who issued the death certificate?"Mandy was at a loss for words. Under my piercing gaze, she looked extremely nervous. It was ridiculous for a mistress to want to sign official paperwork. Without wasting any more time, I got into the car with the funeral home staff. As we drove over a speed bump, I noticed Dylan's eyebrows twitch.Uh-oh. Was this guy waking u
