The wolf who doesn’t belong to any pack

yet scares every Alpha who crosses him.

And now he’s here.

Looking at me.

Like he knows something Damon never told me.

Lucian’s gaze slides from Damon to me again.

“Oh, I think it is my business,” he says softly. “In fact, I think she’s the most important thing I’ve seen in years.”

Damon growls under his breath. “Don’t involve her.”

Lucian smirks. “You should be more worried about what you’ve already done to her.”

A wave of cold pricks my spine.

He knows.

He knows Damon hurt me.

Know about the link.

I know about Sera.

But how?

Lucian steps closer, stopping just a few feet away.

His eyes lock with minedark, unreadable, dangerous.

“You don’t even understand what you are yet,” he whispers. “But you will.”

“What does that mean?” I ask.

“It means,” he says with quiet attention, “that tonight was only the beginning. And everything you thought you knew about your life is about to shatter.”

Damon grabs my arm, pulling me behind him as if he can shield me.

“Stay away from her, Lucian.”

Lucian raises a brow. “Why? Afraid she’ll learn the truth from someone else?”

The truth.

Damon’s grip tightens.

My stomach sinks.

“What truth?” I whisper.

Neither of them talks.

Lucian smiles first.

But his smile is the kind that chills the blood.

“Ask your husband,” he says. “If he dares to tell you.”

Damon’s jaw locks.

Lucian watches him with a slow, cold enjoyment that feels like the buildup to war.

And then Lucian’s look turns to me again.

Softening.

“Aria,” he whispers, as if tasting the name, “you have no idea how much danger you’re in.”

I take a step back.

“I don’t even know you.”

“You will,” he says. “Sooner than you think.”

My heart beats faster.

Too fast.

Something in his voice

the sure,

the promise,

the quiet claim

wraps around me like a warning.

Or an offer.

Damon pulls me behind him fully, voice sharp.

“Get out.”

Lucian smirks. “You can’t protect her from me, Damon. You can barely protect her from yourself.”

Damon dives

But Lucian is already stepping back into the dark.

He leaves only a whisper behind.

“We’ll speak again, Aria.”

I stand frozen.

My heart pounds against my ribs, my skin still warm from the golden light that should not exist.

Damon turns to me, breath shaking, eyes filled with fear not of Lucian.

Of me.

“Aria,” he says, “we need to talk. There’s… there’s something you need to know.”

My voice comes out tight.

“What did you hide from me?”

He hesitates.

And in that pause, I feel the floor shift again

because whatever truth he’s holding

is bigger

and darker

than anything I imagined.

“Aria…”

His voice is barely a breath.

“You’re not just my wife.”

My blood runs cold.

“You’re something else.”

I take a step back.

“What am I, Damon?”

His face crumples.

And then a cold wind sweeps through the hallway, bringing a whisper that doesn’t belong to either of us.

She’s mine to raise.

My breath catches.

Damon’s eyes widened.

We both turn

but the hallway is empty.

And I realize

Lucian never really left.

I am no longer sure which man I should fear more: the husband who betrayed me… or the stranger who says I was never his to begin with.

His hand is the first thing I feel steady, warm, and far too calm for the chaos inside me.

Lucian lifts me from the floor like he already owns the right to touch me. His grip is sure, confident, almost soft.

Too gentle.

“You shouldn’t fall so easily,” he whispers.

I jerk my hand away as soon as I find my balance.

“Don’t touch me.”

He smiles. Not kind. Not mean. Just… knowing.

“You will change your mind soon enough.”

My heart thumps once hard, loud, unwanted.

Before I can speak, a strong arm pushes between us. Damon.

His voice cuts like a blade.

“Get away from her.”

Lucian doesn’t even move. “No.”

A single word. Sharp. Finally,

Damon stiffens. I feel the stress rolling off him like a storm that can’t find a place to land.

Lucian tilts his head. “She stays with me until she’s safe.”

Safe.

 The word twists inside me.

I step back, staring at both of them.

“I am not going anywhere with either of you until someone explains what is happening.”

Damon turns to me, eyes tight with something I can’t name. “Aria, you don’t know who he is.”

Lucian’s laugh is soft. “She doesn’t know who you are either.”

Damon bristles, but Lucian’s smirk only deepens.

And then it happens.

The first twist of the night.

Damon’s eyes flash. Not anger.

 Not jealousy.

Fear.

Real fear.

He’s afraid of Lucian.

I’ve never seen Damon afraid of anyone. Not in business, not in fights, not even when the world tried to tear him apart.

So why now?

Why him?

“What are you?” I whisper.

Neither man answers.

Lucian steps a little closer. Damon quickly blocks him with his body.

“Enough games,” Damon snaps. “Leave her alone.”

Lucian laughs again, low and patient. “You speak as if you have the power to command me.”

“Stay away from her.”

“Or what?”

The stress is thick enough to choke me.

Lucian shifts his eyes to me. “Your husband fears what you are. And what I know.”

Damon’s voice drops dangerously. “Lucian” “Vale.”

The name falls from Lucian’s lips like a lock clicking open.

Cold spreads through my chest.

He said it clearly.

 Boldly.

 Without doubt.

Vale.

 My mother’s family name.

 A name Damon never uses.

A name tied to lies buried long before I was born.

My knees weaken.

“How do you know that?” My voice is barely a whisper.

Lucian’s eyes soften not with kindness, but with something stranger. Interest. Recognition.

“Because I knew your mother,” he says softly. “And I know exactly what you are.”

The ground feels like it tilts beneath me.

Damon grabs my wrist. “Aria, don’t listen to him.”

I pull away. Hard.

“No. I am done with quiet. I am done with being the last person to know about my own life.”

Damon’s face tightens with hopeless anger. "Please just trust me.”

Trust.

The word hits me like a terrible joke.

“Trust you?” I choke out. “You hid your mistress. You hid your child. You hid your mate bond. And now you’re hiding my bloodline too?”

He flinches.

Lucian watches him with a slow, cold smile. “She asks good questions, Damon. Why don’t you answer them?”

Damon stares at me. Something like guilt flickers across his face.

“Aria… I was trying to protect you.”

Lucian steps forward, voice sliding in like silk.

“That is the problem. You can’t protect her. Not from me. Not from her own family. And certainly not from what’s coming.”

A chill runs down my spine.

“What’s coming?” I whisper.

Lucian’s eyes hold mine. Calm. Unshaken. Certain.

“The Awakening.”

Damon’s face drains of color.

“Lucian,” he says, “don’t do this.”

“I’m not doing anything,” Lucian says softly. “But she deserves the truth.”

My breath catches. “What truth?”

Lucian’s jaw lifts with quiet confidence.

“Your power woke tonight for a reason, Aria. And once it fully awakens, every Alpha alive will either want to claim you” He pauses.

“Or destroy you.”

“The council is coming.”I said the words and felt the weight of every syllable. It wasn’t just a warning. It was a declaration. Everything we had fought for, everything we had barely survived—it was about to explode.Damon’s jaw tightened. He didn’t speak. He never did when danger approached, but his eyes—his eyes betrayed him. Fatigue. Anger. A fire threatening to consume him from the inside out.I stepped closer, my tone sharp, calculated.“They will not come empty-handed. The council has been waiting for centuries to take control of the Alpha bloodlines. They want your son, Aria. And through him, your power. They will choose who rules next. Whether you live or die may no longer matter to them.”Aria’s hands tightened around the baby, though he was calm. Too calm. It was unnatural for a newborn, but this one was different. His eyes glowed faintly, and I could feel his awareness stretching beyond his body.Lucian, standing behind Damon, shifted uneasily. “I know the leaders, Cassian

“The baby showed me the future again.”The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them.My arms tightened around my child. His small body felt warm against me, but his mind was loud. Too loud.Images moved inside my head like a storm.Flashes of fire. Wolves running. Blood on the ground.I shook my head as if that could push the visions away.Damon stepped closer at once.“What did you see?” he asked. His voice was steady, but I could hear the fear under it.I swallowed.“I saw the future again.”Silence filled the room.Cassian watched me carefully.Lucian’s eyes narrowed with concern.Damon spoke again, slower this time.“Tell me everything.”I looked down at the baby. His eyes were open. Bright. Watching me as if he understood every word.“He showed me packs burning,” I whispered.Damon stiffened.“Burning?”“Yes.”My voice trembled, but I forced the words out.“I saw wolves fighting wolves. Not enemies. Brothers. Allies. All turning against each other.”Cassian frowned.

Someone just tried to kill my child. The thought burned inside my head like fire. Not a rumor. Not a warning.A real attack.I felt my wolf rising under my skin, angry and restless. My fists clenched so tight my hands shook.“No one touches my child,” I said slowly. “No one.”Aria held the baby close to her chest. Her arms were tight. Too tight. The child was quiet now, but his small body trembled against her.“He feels it,” she whispered. “He feels the danger coming.”Lucian moved toward the door, his expression sharp.“Then we don’t wait for danger to arrive,” he said. “We prepare.”A distant shout echoed again.Another voice followed. Louder. Panicked.“Guards down!”The words made my blood run cold.Cassian stepped beside me.“They are already inside,” he said quietly. My voice turned hard.“Then they die inside my territory.”I moved toward the door.Lucian caught my arm before I could leave.“Think first.”“I am thinking,” I growled.“No,” he replied calmly. “You are reacting.”

“You never escaped the council, Lucian.”The words left my mouth before anyone else could speak.Lucian’s eyes met mine. Calm on the surface. But something deep inside them shifted.Damon stepped forward at once.“That is enough,” he said sharply. “You will not accuse my brother without proof.”I did not look away from Lucian.“I am not accusing him,” I replied quietly.Damon’s jaw tightened. “Then what are you doing?”“I am asking him to stop hiding.”The room fell silent.Lucian studied me for a long moment. His expression did not break, but his shoulders grew slightly heavier.“You believe the council still controls me,” he said slowly.“I believe the council never lets its servants go.”Damon looked confused and angry.“Servants?” he repeated. “Lucian was never anyone’s servant.”I finally turned toward Damon.“You know the council’s reputation. They did not rule with open power. They ruled with secrets.”Aria held the child closer.“Then explain it,” she said softly. “Explain wha

That child just accused me.I stared at the baby for a long moment.A newborn. A tiny creature who had barely opened his eyes to the world. And yet that child had just spoken my name as if I were the enemy. The silence around us felt heavy.Damon finally broke it.“This is madness,” he said firmly. His voice carried anger, but also loyalty. The kind of loyalty only a brother gives.“He is my brother,” Damon continued. “Lucian would never betray us.”I kept my eyes on the child in Aria’s arms.“He did not accuse me,” I said quietly. “The child repeated a voice he does not understand.”Aria looked at me carefully. Her arms tightened around the baby.“But he does understand,” she whispered. “His thoughts are clear inside my mind.”The baby shifted. Then he made a soft sound. Not a cry. If Cassian isn’t the enemy… then who is?The question would not leave my mind.If Cassian was not the enemy, then everything I believed for years was wrong. And if I was wrong… then someone much closer to us had been lying.I stared at Cassian for a long moment. He looked calm. Too calm.“You knew something,” I said slowly. “From the beginning.”Cassian did not answer right away. His eyes moved to the child in Aria’s arms. Then he said quietly, “I knew the prophecy was incomplete.”Aria tightened her hold on the baby. Her voice trembled, but her words were firm.“Incomplete?” she said. “You told us the prophecy said the child would bring war.”“It does,” Cassian replied. “But that is not the full truth.”My chest burned with anger.“Then say it,” I snapped. “Stop speaking in riddles.”Cassian finally looked at me. His eyes were sharp.“The prophecy does not say the child brings war,” he said slowly. “It says the child reveals the war that already exists.”Silence fell between us.Aria
