“That is not my child.”

The words tear out of her throat.

I freeze.

Aria’s eyes are open, but they are not hers. The soft brown I know is gone. They are darker. Older. Watching me like I am a stranger.

I pull her into my arms. “Aria. Look at me. It’s me.”

Her body goes stiff. Her fingers curl against her stomach.

“That is not my child,” she repeats, slower this time.

Fear climbs into my chest.

Lucian steps forward, cautious. “Damon,” he says quietly, “she is not fully awake.”

“I can see that,”

“You should have stayed buried.”The words leave my mouth the second I see him.He smiles like he expected that greeting.“I was never buried,” he replies calmly. “Only patient.”Cassian steps forward with the confidence of someone who believes the world already belongs to him.Aria stiffens beside me. I feel the dominance inside her stir. Not wild. Controlled. Watching.“You engineered this,” I say. “The chambers. The prophecy. The fear.”“I refined it,” he corrects. “Your mother designed the bones. I gave them purpose.”“You twisted it,” Aria says sharply. He studies her with interest.“So you are the new bearer,” he murmurs. “Fascinating.”“Do not look at her like that,” I warn.He chuckles softly. “Still protective. Even without your Alpha bond.”The reminder stings.“You mistranslated the prophecy,” I accuse. He tilts his head.“Did I?”“It never said the child would destroy balance,” I continued. “It said he would end forced dominance.”“And what do you think forced dominance ma

“I choose you.”I say it before he can stop me.His hand tightens around mine. “Aria, don’t.”“I choose you,” I repeat, my voice steady. “Not the crown. Not the chamber. You.”His jaw clenches. “This is not your burden.”“It became mine the moment I carried our child.”“You don’t understand what will happen.”“Then explain it again,” I demand. “Without protecting me from the truth.”His silence tells me enough. The chamber hum grows louder. I feel it in my bones. I feel it in the child.“He needs an anchor,” I say softly.Damon’s eyes darken. “I will not let you take my place.”“You already took mine when you chose to forget me.”Pain flickers across his face.“That was different.”“No,” I reply. “It was the same. You tried to carry everything alone.”“I was saving your life.”“And I am saving your soul.”The words surprised even me.He stares at me as if trying to remember something.“You think losing dominance will break me?” he asks quietly.“Yes,” I whisper. “Because you tie your

“The surrender is not complete,” she says. “The Third Chamber is still unstable.”Aria looks at her.“What does that mean?”“It means,” Sera continues carefully, “if Cassian reaches it before full stabilization, he can reverse the surrender.”I look sharply at Sera.“You were not supposed to know that.”“I listen,” she replies coldly.Aria turns to me slowly.“Reverse it?” she asks.“Yes,” I answered.“And what happens then?”I hesitate again.“Then the dominance returns,” I say.“And our bond?”“May remain fractured.”Her hand presses against her stomach.“So you risked everything,” she whispers, “and it might not even hold?”“It was the only option.”“Was it?” she asks. Her voice grows stronger.“You keep saying you had no choice. But you had one. You could have trusted me.”“I was protecting you.”“From what? A decision?”“From death.”“I would rather face death with you than live without you,” she says. Her words shake me.I step forward.“Do not say that.”“It’s the truth.”“You

“Do not look at me like that.”Her eyes are red.Not from weakness. Not from fear. From hurt.“Do not look at me like that,” I say quietly.“Like what?” she asks.“Like I betrayed you.”Her lips tremble, but her voice stays firm. “Didn’t you?”The question lands hard.I look at her face, trying to steady myself. Something inside me feels unstable. Like I am standing on thin ice. I know I made a choice. I know it was necessary. But when she looks at me this way, I feel doubt creep into my bones.“I did what I had to do,” I told her.“You did it alone.”“I did it to save you.”“You don’t get to decide that alone,” she says, her voice rising.I take a breath.“If I had told you the full truth,” I say slowly, “you would have stopped me.”“Then maybe I should have stopped you.”Her words cut deeper than anger. They carry pain. Real pain.I move closer, lowering my voice. “You were dying.”“And you think I would rather live without you?” she demands.I hesitate.“You are not without me,” I

“He is not yours alone.”The voice is inside me.It is not loud. It is not cruel. It is calm.I open my eyes, but I do not see Damon. I do not see the barrier. I feel only a strange stillness.“He is not yours alone,” the voice repeats. My heart beats slowly now. Too slowly.“Who are you?” I whisper.A warmth moves through my body. It is not pain. It is presence.“I am becoming,” the voice answers. My breath shakes.“My son?” I ask.“I am what you call son.”Tears fill my eyes.“You are too small to speak,” I say softly.“I am small in flesh,” the voice replies. “Not in blood.”Fear creeps into my chest.“What are you?” I ask.“I am the end of command.”The words are simple. They are heavy.I close my eyes again.“Why are you hurting me?” I whisper.“I am not hurting you,” the voice says. “The chamber is.”“Why?”“It wants to shape me.”“To weaken you?” I ask.“To bind me.”Anger rises in me.“No one will bind you,” I say firmly. There is silence for a moment. Then images flash throug
