Ryker

I opened my eyes, only to shut them immediately as the harsh light threatened to blind me.

The memory of what happened on the ice made my head throb.

I tried to sit up, slowly opening my eyes again as I adjusted to the brightness. The ceiling… it's familiar.

It was my house. Thankfully, I hadn't been taken to the hospital. But I wasn't in my bedroom.

Sitting room.

“Dew!” I growled, raising a hand to my face and pressing my fingers between my brows, rubbing the spot as though I could

Ryker. The door clicked shut, sealing Evaria away with Angela in the room down the hall.I stood in the corridor of my wing, my chest still heaving with the ghost of a panic I couldn't shake. Dominic was standing a few feet away from me, his shoulders rigid, his jaw clenched tight enough to break glass."So that's it, then?" Dominic muttered, his voice dripping with bitter disbelief. "Just like that? We're not allowed to go near her again?"Right. But I didn't say anything. I just stared straight ahead, letting the silence stretch between us like a loaded weapon.Suddenly, Dominic turned sharply to face me. His dark eyes flashed with an ugly, reckless spark. "She was fine before she came to your office""Says someone who kidnapped her from school and made her sick," I shot at him."Says someone who lured her into his office just to get an aftertaste of a sick girl," he shot back at me. "She had barely recovered, you pervert.""I didn't lure her," I snapped, my voice dropping into a lo

EvariaAngela stood in the doorway. My stomach gave a hard, anxious twist. The raw memory of what had happened between Ryker and me yesterday and the shadow from the hallway flashed through my mind.Seeing her standing there, looking like a storm in a tailored designer coat, made my skin crawl with an awkward, humiliating heat. I didn't know how to look at her. It was like guilt was eating me whole. For a single second, Angela’s posture radiated ice, that cold, sharp charisma of someone who had something to say or cheeks to slap. But the next moment, her eyes softened as she took in my state, seeing me slumped against the velvet cushions with blood smeared across my chin and soaking into my clothes."Hey..." Angela breathed, her professional composure instantly snapping as she hurried across the room. "What is wrong with you? What happened? Jeez, you're an absolute mess."She didn't wait for an invitation. She dropped right beside the sofa, her cool, practiced fingers instantly closin

The taste of blood hit the back of my throat. A dark, heavy spray of blood shot from my lips, splattering across the polished wooden floorboards of Ryker's study and staining the front of my shirt. Ryker froze. The raw heat that had consumed him just a second ago vanished into thin air, replaced by a pale, absolute mask of horror. He scrambled back, his hands hovering over me, trembling. "What is it?" Ryker choked out, his voice cracking raw and high. "What's wrong with you?!" “I… I…” I couldn't answer. I pressed both hands flat against my chest, struggling to drag air into my burning lungs. Cough. Another jagged wave tore through my throat, more blood spilling over my chin, dripping hot and fast down my collarbone. "Dew!" Ryker roared, his voice shaking the entire study as he lunged toward the desk. "Dew, get in here right now!" Less than two seconds later, the door flew open. Dew burst into the room, his eyes scanning the scene in a fraction of a second: the blood on the flo

EvariaWhat is it? Ryker’s voice cut through the silence of the study, cold, sharp, and razor-thin.I stood just inside the doorway, my fingers gripping the hem of my oversized T-shirt, my bare legs feeling suddenly exposed under his dark, unblinking stare."I... I came to talk to you," I murmured, my voice sounding far smaller than I wanted it to.“Didn’t you, Dew? Tell him what you want to say.”“It’s you I wanted to talk to,” I asserted.Ryker let out a slow breath—the kind of exhale that made it obvious he wasn't the one who had told Dew to let me in. He looked down, picked up his black fountain pen, and dragged it back across the paper."Speak," he said flatly, not even bothering to look up. "I'm busy."I swallowed the lump in my throat, taking a slow step forward into the room. "It's about what happened earlier. That's why I'm here."He kept writing. "Get on with it.""I'm sorry." The word tumbled out of my mouth. The room instantly stopped.Ryker froze mid-stroke, the tip of

Evaria The suffocating weight pressing down on my chest had completely vanished."You scared the hell out of me," Dominic muttered, crossing his arms over his chest.I stared at him, my brain still trying to catch up."Because if I died, you died?" I shot back dryly, my voice low.Dominic rolled his eyes, letting out a sharp huff of air. "Yes, kitten. Yes, your life is important for now."I dropped my head back against the pillows, letting out a humorless laugh. "I don't think I'm afraid to die anyway."Before Dominic could fire back a sarcastic reply, the door clicked open and Helen stepped into the room, holding an empty ceramic bowl. She walked over, her old eyes scanning my face before she reached out and pressed the back of her hand against my cheek."How are you feeling, child?" Helen asked softly. "Your skin is still hot."Dominic shifted off the dresser, stepping closer. "Thank you, Helen. I didn't know you could produce stuff like this. At least she's awake."Helen pulled he

RYKER Evaria’s eyes fluttered open. "What..." she choked out, her voice rough, scraping against her dry throat. "What's going on? Why am I... why am I feeling this hot?" She tried to push herself up against the pillows, but her limbs felt heavy, weighted down by a strange, residual fever that still radiated deep beneath her skin. She looked up, her wide, disoriented eyes bouncing between Dominic and me. “Evaria, child. You passed out. Don't you remember a thing?” "I don't understand," she whispered, her chest heaving as she swallowed hard. "What happened? I... I remember being in the car with you, Dominic. And then my chest..." "It felt like someone was crushing my heart," she breathed, trembling. "I couldn't breathe. Everything just went black.” Yeah, everything went black, but she did remember she was in the car with Dominic when she was supposed to be in class, learning. “Thank goodness you are fine, kitten,” Dominic purred. I stepped closer to the edge of the bed, my jaw
