Chapter 4

Author: Johnny Fisher
Steven's POV

It wasn't long before I was pelted with water bottles and cans. "How dare you lie to us! We already published our stories because of you, Steven!"

I remained on the spot. I merely gritted my teeth as I hunched over in shame, completely stripped of my dignity. I didn't even know how much time had passed before the reporters dispersed.

Just then, my phone started blowing up again. I clicked on one of the messages. "Your story is all over the Internet, Steven! Your part-time employer is furious about the publicity and is demanding compensation for the damage! Your parents are also on their way to the Walker residence!"

I felt dizzy as soon as I saw the message. I was frantically trying to call Mom and Dad when a cab pulled up outside the Walker residence.

Mom and Dad hurriedly got out and rushed toward me. "What on earth happened here, Steven?"

I fought back the nausea and said, "You two should head back first! It's nothing serious!"

Just then, Joseph came up from behind. "Why are you lying to your parents, Steven? Millie clearly passed out from an allergic reaction!"

Mom and Dad went pale with fear. "Millie had an allergic reaction? Where is she right now?"

Joseph was utterly shameless. "Haven't you heard? Your son is playing the other man in my marriage, and now he's trying to shake me down by falsely slandering me!"

I was so angry I could barely contain myself. "Shut up!"

Mom got so upset that her blood pressure spiked. She instantly passed out on the spot.

Half an hour later, once Mom was taken care of, Joseph sent me a message. "Come to the third floor—Millie is right here."

I rushed up to the third floor and saw Millie lying on the floor inside one of the rooms, looking weak. "Millie!"

Millie rasped, "I-I don't feel so good, Daddy…"

I was heartbroken after hearing Millie's cry for help. I immediately turned around and punched Joseph hard on the face.

I suddenly felt uneasy after noticing how Joseph didn't bother to dodge.

Just then, Sophie came rushing over. "Steven!"

Upon hearing that, my hand—still raised from punching Joseph—trembled slightly.

Sophie's best friend and the others, who were standing behind her, quickly came to Joseph's defense.

"Haven't you taken this far enough, Steven? Joseph offered to adopt your daughter out of the goodness of his heart, yet you repay him by badmouthing him and hitting him! You really are a shameless, freeloading homewrecker!"

I ignored them, grabbed Sophie in a panic, and yelled, "Millie is in that room! Save her, Sophie!"

"Alright," Sophie replied.

Yet, before I could even feel relieved, she gently touched Joseph's cheek and said, "I'll do it on one condition—you have to appease Joseph first."

Joseph feigned reluctance and said, "I know Steven didn't mean to, but even my parents have never laid a hand on me. I'll let you off if you get down on your knees and shine my shoes!"

I looked at Sophie, then at Millie. I gritted my teeth, got down on my knees, and used my clothes to shine Joseph's shoes.

Joseph seized the moment when no one was looking to stomp down hard on my right hand.

I gasped sharply as the pain shot through my hand.

Joseph grinned at me and said, "Hurry up, Steven."

He continued grinding his foot against my hand after saying that, refusing to stop.

In that instant, an agonizing pain surged through me. I groaned through the pain. "I-It hurts…"

Joseph pulled his foot away, looking surprised. "What do you mean it hurts? I didn't even step on you, Steven!"

Sophie looked at me with pure disgust. "Oh, cut the crap, Steven! You're clearly shameless enough to fake being hurt if you're callous enough to exploit Millie just to get my attention!"

She then turned to Joseph and said, "Let's go get that bruise on your cheek taken care of first, Joseph."

I rushed toward where Millie was the moment Sophie and Joseph walked away.

Jeremiah suddenly let go of his pet dog's leash.

I widened my eyes in fear, as every single time that dog saw me, it looked as if it wanted to tear me apart. I frantically tried to back away, but I was too late—its sharp fangs sank deep into my flesh. I writhed on the ground in pain, repeatedly yelling, "Help me!"

Sophie stopped for a moment, then continued walking away.

Just as I broke down in despair, a burst of laughter came from nearby. Millie, who had been lying on the floor in the room just moments ago, was now jumping around energetically. "That was so fun! I love playing tricks on Daddy!"

I was slightly stunned after hearing that. I looked at Millie, my lifeless eyes gradually widening. It turned out that they had tricked me. Millie, whom I had always been so proud of, had been acting alongside Joseph all along.

I smiled wryly, my tears blending with blood on the floor. I saw a familiar figure sprinting toward me just before losing consciousness.

Two hours later, Sophie was heading downstairs with her arm linked through Joseph's. When she turned her head, she saw a blood-stained severed finger in the corner of the stairwell. She instantly froze in her tracks.

  • My Little Girl Sold Me Out   Chapter 9

Steven's POVBianca scooped Millie right into her arms.Millie was taken aback by Bianca's actions. She looked back at me, trying to gauge my reaction to see if Bianca was telling the truth.I kept my mouth shut, letting my silence serve as tacit agreement.Sophie was displeased again. She clearly couldn't stand the sight of the three of us looking like a perfect, happy family. She scowled and ordered, "Come here, Millie."She finally lost her temper when Millie refused to move and barked, "Get your ass over here, Millie!"I couldn't stomach the way she ordered everyone around, so I stepped right in front of Millie and Bianca. "Why can't you talk properly for once, Sophie? You've already done enough damage raising Millie the way you have. What more do you want? "I'll raise her with someone else from now on, so you don't have to concern yourself with her anymore. We weren't even legally married, so there's nothing else tying us together. You should just leave us alone from now o

  • My Little Girl Sold Me Out   Chapter 8

Steven's POVI wasn't surprised that Sophie and Millie found me. After all, it had been a year, and my reputation had already spread throughout the finance industry.Sophie, Millie, and I went to a cafe once the negotiation wrapped up.Millie wanted to sit next to me, and I didn't turn her down. Sophie looked at me with a conflicted expression. She looked as if she wanted to say something, but she ultimately remained silent."I know you like lemonade! I'll order it for you, Daddy!" Millie said, nervously gauging my reaction.I had to hand it to Mom and Dad—a year of their strict hands-on discipline really had made a difference.Sophie took the menu from Millie, disagreeing with her. "Your father doesn't like lemonade. He prefers black coffee." I glanced up at Sophie. She flushed with embarrassment and began nervously flipping through the menu. It turned out that my departure had actually forced the two of them to change their ways.In the end, both drinks were served, but I

Steven's POVI froze for a moment before I looked up to study the woman in front of me. Bianca hadn't changed at all over the years. She still had that haughty, dismissive attitude and that unruly confidence. She was wearing something a singer would wear on stage, which wasn't surprising at all. She was a global singing sensation, fresh from her concert and still dressed for the stage, yet she was now kneeling right in front of me, carefully applying medicine to my wound.I shook my head in disbelief, finding the contrast too jarring. In a matter of days, I had gone through deception, betrayal, and a "divorce".Bianca was such a refreshing change from everyone else—being around her felt like finally getting a breath of fresh air after being suffocated by all the filth around me.Bianca caught me staring, but instead of getting shy, she seemed perfectly aware of her own beauty. She raised her chin slightly and gave me a faint, knowing smile. "I know I'm pretty, but you don't have

Third-Person POVJust then, Sophie's assistant hurried over and handed her the newly printed report. "We have the blood test results for the severed finger, Ms. Johnson!"Sophie froze on the spot the moment she took the report and looked at the results. She felt her blood run cold while her stomach churned with nausea. "H-How could it be Steven's? Joseph! Didn't you tell me you hadn't hurt him back then?"Sophie grabbed the man by the arm in a fit of rage, the veins in her neck standing out as her anger intensified."There must have been some mistake with the bloodwork, Sophie! I swear I haven't done anything to hurt Steven!"Sophie shoved Joseph away, her eyes bloodshot. She then gripped Millie by the arm and demanded coldly, "What exactly happened? What did Joseph tell you to do?"Millie looked at her enraged mother, then at Joseph, who was shaking all over with fear. She stopped crying and started hiccuping from fright. "Papa said there was a fun game where we trick Daddy. He

Third-Person POVIt was two hours later, and Sophie was supporting Joseph as they walked downstairs. She glanced over and spotted a bloody severed finger sitting in the corner of the stairwell. She stopped dead right then and there.Joseph yelped, "What's that? It couldn't possibly be a human finger, right, Sophie?"Sophie furrowed her brows as she stared intently at the bloody, slender finger. "It doesn't really look like a real one, so stop scaring yourself."She kept her voice steady as she tried to reassure him, but an inexplicable feeling of panic suddenly rose. She knew that something was amiss. That finger was clearly real, judging by its length and size. She recalled how Steven looked two hours ago—like he was genuinely on the brink of losing it—and felt a sharp pang in her chest. She couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. She hurriedly took out her phone and called Millie, but no one answered. She tried Steven next, and that call went unanswered, too. That growing sense o
