Chapter 3

Author: Wishing Heart
That word hit me like a bucket of ice water.

My body felt ice-cold.

He didn't ask Sera any questions. He didn't ask why she had tried to kill me.

When I lost it and screamed at him hysterically, he just said lightly, "So?"

A wave of bitter heartache instantly crushed me.

"Does my life mean that little to you?" I spat out each word, every syllable slicing through my throat like a razor blade.

It was a cry of despair.

Ronan frowned impatiently.

"You're not dead, are you?"

I laughed at my own stupidity. Had he held back from going for the kill during these past three years? Why did I expect him to care about my life just because my memories were back?

I forced a smile.

"Ronan, you'd better guard her 24 hours a day!" I warned.

"I won't give you the chance to harm Sera!" he snarled.

Scooping her into his arms, he shoved past me and strode out.

From that day on, he stayed by her side almost around the clock.

My bodyguards didn't get a single chance to act.

On the day I was discharged, I ran into him and Sera at the hospital entrance.

He was being discharged too.

Sera held a smoking bundle of sage and waved it around him from head to toe.

"A little sage to clear the air, and all the bad vibes disappear," she said.

Ronan and I both went still for a moment. It was as if we were looking at the old me.

I'd done the exact same thing and said the exact same words.

Back then, he'd even poked fun at me for being superstitious. Yet Sera was not me, after all.

Complex emotions churned in Ronan's eyes, but there was no telling what he was thinking.

Suppressing the turmoil in my chest, I walked straight past them. Just as I was about to get into the car, a brute force suddenly struck me from behind.

Ronan slammed my head against the car window, shoving a phone right into my face.

A story titled "College Student Kept by Wealthy Tycoon" had gone viral online. It was about none other than Sera.

Ronan glared at me. His eyes were practically spitting fire.

"Since you couldn't touch Sera these past few days, you resorted to these cheap tricks! Briella, you're a woman too. How could you be so vicious?" he shouted.

I kicked him away and said calmly, "It wasn't me. Besides, the internet isn't wrong. Isn't she just a woman you keep—"

A harsh slap cut my words short. My ears rang from the blow, and my mind went blank.

Before my amnesia, he'd doted on me and loved me. He could never bring himself to raise a finger against me, or even speak to me in a harsh tone.

Even over the past three years of mutual destruction, when we stabbed each other countless times, he'd never once struck my face.

Yet this slap humiliated me thoroughly.

I fought with everything I had to hold back the tears in my eyes.

His voice was chillingly cold.

"Briella, you forced my hand!" he roared.

Soon, his retaliation arrived.

Private photos of me were spread across the entire internet. The scandal surrounding the private photos of the Goodwin family heiress quickly buried the story about the kept college student.

This was Ronan's goal.

It was also his way of getting revenge on me.

He was killing two birds with one stone.

Staring at those photos, I bit the inside of my cheek until it bled. He was the one who took those photos back when our love was at its deepest.

I thought they were proof of love. Now they were the knife he sharpened himself.

He was that cruel.

I grabbed my car keys and rushed like a madwoman to Ronan's house.

The moment the front door passcode went through, I couldn't help but freeze for a second.

He hadn't changed the passcode.

It was still my birthday.

Pushing the door open, I went still.

The villa retained its original decor.

The fish I raised and the flowers I planted were all still there.

The only difference was a massive photo hanging on the living room wall.

It was a photo of me, taken by him during our last vacation together.

I remembered watching him and Sera before. He always held her the same way—pinning her down with a hand over her mouth while facing my photo the entire time.

I laughed through my tears. My heart was a tangled mess of emotions.

Just then, footsteps came from the second-floor staircase.

Ronan clutched my hand tightly, babbling in excitement."Thank God! Thank God!"Yet while he wept with joy, I completely broke down. Tears rolled down my face. I wrenched my hand away, sobbing uncontrollably."Why… Ronan… Why won't you just let me go? Was my father's death not enough to settle the score?"I turned and walked into the house.Grabbing a fruit knife from the table, I plunged it toward myself, screaming hysterically."Then, I'll end this myself!""Brie, no!" he shouted. The knife pierced deeply into Ronan's hand as he blocked it.Warm blood splattered across my face, blinding me in shock.I blinked repeatedly and stared at him numbly.Drained of all strength, I whispered, "What exactly do you want? When will this blood feud between us ever end?"Ronan gritted his teeth and pulled the knife through his palm.As though feeling no pain at all, he let the blood flow freely. He sniffled, his voice choked with despair."Brie, the feud between us has already ended,

Ronan lay motionless on the floor. He only snapped out of it when the door passcode chimed.Suddenly, he remembered the day Briella appeared in his house.Back when he exposed her private photos, he was worried she might seek revenge. In light of that, he'd warned Sera repeatedly that no matter who came, she was not to open the door. Therefore, Sera couldn't have let Briella inside.Yet Briella had still appeared inside the house.A sudden realization struck him, making him sat up abruptly.Just then, Sera pushed the door open and walked in.He lunged forward immediately, clamping his hands tightly onto her shoulders."Did you open the door for Briella that day? How did she get in?" he asked frantically. The painful grip made her furrow her brows in agony."No, I didn't! I don't know how she got in!"Ronan's eyes turned bloodshot as he shook her violently."How could you not know? You were home!" he shouted. "Think! Think hard!"Sera turned pale with fright. She'd never

Ronan shouted hysterically, his eyes growing bloodshot."Mom, do you have any idea that your lie destroyed everything between Briella and me?"Unable to accept this, he shoved her hand away.Madeline lo

Ronan had kept Sera as his mistress in the first place because he saw the shadow of the old Briella in her.Her expressions, movements, and temper held a striking resemblance to the woman he'd loved. Her eyes were a perfect match, down to the exact curve of her eyelids. The only part of her that looked different was her mouth. That was why he covered her mouth every time they were intimate.Sera was smart. She knew what he favored and what he despised.Whenever she wanted something, she merely covered her mouth and stared up at him with wide, teary eyes. Inevitably, he'd soften and give in.Yet this trick, which had never failed before, lost its magic.Ronan's mind was painfully clear. No matter how similar she seemed, the person before him was not Briella. He pushed her hands away.Though his tone remained gentle, a chilling undertone seeped through."Sera, you ought to know your place."His words left Sera stunned. Ronan shot up to his feet. The phone slipped from his fingers, crashing heavily onto the floor. The noise jolted Sera awake."Ron, what is it?" she asked. His face paled, and his lips trembled. Ronan was unable to utter a single word. Then, Sera noticed the phone on the floor. She frowned the second she saw what was playing on the screen."Briella never stops, does she? She actually teamed up with her father to pull something like this like this! Is she trying to win your sympathy or guilt-trip you?"Her words snapped Ronan back to his senses.Right!Over the past three years, Briella had pulled countless tricks. She'd once used AI to fake a video of Sera being kidnapped, luring him deep into the mountains just to make him miss a project bid. This suicide video had to be AI too.As for Adam, that old bastard of a father—he claimed to be sorry, yet after the accident back then, he hadn't visited even once.He likely didn't feel a shred of remorse. How could a man like that

Sera walked down the stairs with a radiant smile, holding a piece of paper in her hand."Ron, you're back! I have good news for you…"The moment she saw me, it was as if she'd seen a ghost. She was so terrified that she lost her footing on the stairs, tumbling all the way down to my feet. Her face was deathly pale as she clutched her stomach. With every ounce of her strength, she grabbed the hem of my pants with trembling hands."Please, save my baby!" she pleaded. "I may have hurt you, but the baby's innocent…"Blood gradually pooled under her, soaking the pregnancy test report lying on the floor. Before I could react, Ronan showed up at the door. He saw Sera lying on the verge of death in a pool of blood.Rage instantly ignited in his eyes."Sera!" he shouted. He shoved me aside forcefully, his eyes wild with anger."Briella, are you really intent on killing Sera?" he roared. The moment his words landed, my forehead slammed heavily against the photo frame on the wall.Bl
