Cassie POV

I drove home like a mad woman, weaving in between cars and avoiding pedestrians - although I can honestly say that it was all a subconscious effort.

My mind was fixed on the man I'd left behind at the hotel. That stupid, self centred son of a bitch!

No, that wasn't quite right - his mother wasn't a bitch. I liked Vasilios's mother. She was a dear woman who was as much a mother to me as she was to her own son.

The dark mood which had struck me the moment Vasilios's presence was known, followed me into my apartment building. I stomped up the stairs, swearing in every language I knew as I made my way to my apartment.

I stopped outside my door and started fumbling in my backpack for my keys, still swearing under my breath.

“Of course, I should have known,” I heard behind me, the haughty tones of derision evident in the woman's words.

Slowly, I stood back up and tried to steel myself against the confrontation I knew was coming.
