Everything around me, seemed to slow down. And for a moment, seeing Hayden this angry was new... but what was more terrifying was the cold chill that came with it.

The moment those words left his mouth, everyone present fell silent, too stuned to speak or move. Suddenly, the air in the room began to feel heavy. I tried my best to calm my raging heart, to breathe... and tried my best to not panic. But failed miserably, the moment he let go of my hand.

My breath got caught in my throat, and suddenly, it felt like I would collapse. I had to clutch my fist tight to not fall on my knees and weeze.

I needed water... and fast.

With each step Hayden too towards my unfaltering father, the more my chest constricted. This wasn't good for me in anyway.

I wanted to yell, scream, tell him to stop.

But, my throat felt clogged, I couldn't bring myself to say a word to him.

I did calm down a bit when he stopped a few steps away, as though sizing a prey...

The entire air was tense, and the more tens

Before he knew it, he had already boarded his car with River in his arms and brought her all the way back to the mansion. Subconsciously, I release a sigh of relief. "Oh that," I say, gathering my tools as I spoke. "Don't worry, Hayden has already made sure of that." I said softly. Looking up, I don't miss the frown that makes its way to Mr. Thomas' face. "Mr. Thomas, is something wrong??" I asked carefully, his eyes narrowed at my question, then as though it hadn't a smooth smile appeared on his face. "You may carry on, I came to discuss something important with Hayden." Mr. Thomas said, tucking his hands in his pockets as he turned to leave. I shake me head, "Oh don't worry, I was done already." I said, getting up from where I was squatting. "Allow me to guide you to the sitting room, so you can wait comfortably." I offered, to which he nodded after some time. I lead him to the sitting area in silence, before excusing myself to take

Changing from dress to dress was exhausting, and the funny part?We bought more than one dress, well technically he bought them for me... but that's not the point. The point is, we went shopping for a dress, but came back with countless dresses.I sigh, carrying some bags as we near the car. He pauses, hands over the bags he was carrying to a guard; then he turns to me."I forgot something, I'll quickly go get it. You get in, I'll be with you soon." He says, and without waiting for my reply he turns around swiftly and makes his way back. I slowly shut my mouth, swallowing the words I wanted to say.I let the guards escort me back to the car, and watched them put the bags in the boot. • My Mafia   Chapter 33

Just like every normal work day, I had woken up early this morning. It took a lot of will power to drag myself out of bed, especially after the stress I had yesterday. I just couldn't shake off the cold tingling chills which run down my spine each time I'm around Loreen. Ever since she resumed work, I've spotted her staring intently at me. It felt off, it felt cringe... it felt like 'danger'. I sigh, eyes still on my reflection in the bathroom, my mind drifting to another problem. Then there's Hayden, who somehow managed to creep into my head and remain there. I just couldn't shake the feeling that things had changed a bit. Maybe it was the way he spoke to me or the way he was always there when I needed him. Whatever it was, a part of me is scared to find out. Especially after the ordeal with my dad as a child. The trauma of the abuse has left life long scars in my heart, because of that; I fear attachment of any kind. Specifically, to Hayden. I shake my head, clearing the clo

  • My Mafia   Chapter 32

Third Person Pov: The silence in the car was awkward as they progressively drove to their destination. Hayden focuses on his tablet, the sound of his fingers moving on the keyboard filling the air. Thomas on the other hand, is busy on the phone. Sweat sliding down the poor driver's head. The silence was tense and thick, as thick as a blanket. Suddenly, Thomas locks his phone abruptly, turning to Hayden with a sluggish grin on his face. "Why do you look so uncomfortable?" Thomas teased. Despite Hayden's face remaining neutral, his body betrayed him. Thomas could see him stiffen for a moment. "What do you mean?" Hayden asks, voice slightly tense, as he focuses more intensely on his tablet. "I don't know...but; it seems you've gotten so used to her being in the same car as you." Thomas adds, whistling as he faces the window. Hayden stiffens, before baring his teeth at Thomas with a warning glare. "Mind your tongue, unless you want to show up in more than one piece." He

Third Person Pov: The ride was unusually long today. Though it didn't feel tense. It felt normal. Normal... It had become 'normal' to come to work everyday with River. Hayden had no idea how this had come to be. Either way, he was perfectly fine with it. With a sigh, he heard River shut the notebook infront of her. Before turning her eyes back to the window. She seemed... worried. Bothered even. He wanted to know what is was. What was bothering her too much? The strange feeling crawling back in his chest. That feeling he had, the one which felt like he wanted to take away all her pain; and erase anyone who caused her discomfort or harm. He couldn't stop himself, and he didn't know why. "Speak." He finally says, breaking the silence which had settled over them both for a while. His voice cutting through it like a clean blade. He could feel his driver tense, but fortunately the man didn't say or do anything stupid. River only sighed once more, peaking his curiosity

  • My Mafia   Chapter 30

Eva I'm well aware of how bad the situation is, but this... isn't what I had expected. I haven't fully recovered my vision, for who knows how long? I was aware they were probably giving me sedatives to keep me from completely regaining my consciousness. I could only imagine where they had kept my sister and father. I could feel my eyes droop, the more I tried to keep them open. My hands and legs were tied to each side of the chair. I turn my head to the side with an agonising groan, the action alone taking a lot of energy from me. I force my eyes open one more time, trying to take in my surroundings. It seemed they had locked me away in a dark room. The carton boxes around making it look like an abandoned basement or storage room. I couldn't see any sign of my family here, and there was no sound from the environment to give off a hint of their current condition. This placed me in a panicked state, as I immediately began to thrash in the ropes I had been tied in. I needed to fin

It'd been a few days since Mr. Thomas had come to take me back. The question he had asked me that day still lingering in my mind. This morning, both I and Hayden had come to office together as usual. He had also smiled at me, before going up to his office. Even though, it was small it meant a lot. I couldn't erase it from my mind afterwards. Moments later, i found myself happily humming as I worked in the kitchen. Making sure to make the orders as quickly as I could without any delay. I was almost done rounding up the last order, when I heard a familiar voice call my name from behind. I pause, stiffening a bit, before turning around. I arc a brow in question, seeking answers from him for suddenly interrupting me. The guy who had called me was Jake. He had a jovial and naive personality being around him felt like a breath of fresh air. Though the little charisma he gave off, often reminded me of Eva more than i cared to admit. He clears his throat, stuttering before he speaks.

River says, peeking in through the wooden door, leading to Miss Sasha's office. She hums in reply. Her reading glasses were currently on, and her attention seemed fixated on the documents she was currently going through."Get home safely." Miss Sasha adds, finally lifting her eyes off the documents, and then turning to look at River.River blinks, taken aback by the sudden concern. With a nervous laugh, she brushes it off quickly. The silence in the room becomes palpable, as both Mr. Ron and Hayden approach us. "What happened to her?" Hayden asks Mira, who was still shaking in fear. She opens her mouth to answer but nothing comes out. Her hands were shivering. Just before Hayden could say anything more, I immediately step in. "I burnt myself." I blurt out and all eyes turn to me. Immediately, I regret the decision as I fight the urge to shrink back into the couch. As though Hayden read my thoughts, his eyes softened as they stared at me. Just for a split second. The switch was so fast, it got me confused. I open my mouth to say something else, but Mr. Ron cuts me off. "How could you be so careless?" I hear him ask, as Hayden approaches me. My mind goes blank as I watch him grab the first aid kit, before kneeling beside me. Both Mr. Ron's and Mira's eyes widen at this. I on the other hand, didn't know what to make of the gesture. "Show me where you're hurt." he tells me. His voice is so soft and gentle

  • My Mafia   Chapter 26

It was a weekend today, and I still couldn't get over the nightmare I had had the night before. Taking slow steady steps down the stair case, I savor the silence in my environment, as I slowly approach the kitchen. I could hear the sounds of cutleries clashing against each other, fully aware that Mr. Ron's daughter was currently present. Pausing for a moment, I take a small deep breath, making sure to put on a smile before making my way in. "Hey.." I greet with a small wave. Her eyes light up the moment she locks eyes with me, "Good timing, I need your help." She exclaimed. Dumping a spatula in the sink as she quickly goes over to check on whatever she had on the gas. "umm.. sure." I say a bit weakly, but do my best to brush off the pain and heaviness in my chest as I set to work. Moving over to the sink to wash out the dirty dishes. I don't wait for her to tell me what else was needed. I go as far as drying the plates and take my time to neatly arrange them before carefully cl
