Evelyn's POV

Many residents of Skyline Vista knew we were going to venture outside for supplies. So, a lot of people had their eyes on the 18th floor.

Damian understood what I did: if our neighbors fell, we would be next. We rushed downstairs.

Water had risen to the fourth floor, and a group of people gathered at the stairwell entrance, desperate to find a way out.

As Madeline's inflatable boat approached with the lifesaving supplies, their eyes filled with resentment, anger, and even hatred. T

Evelyn's POV"They want our supplies and our rafts. That's all this is."Madeline clenched her jaw. "They can have the raft when I'm dead."Elliott stayed calmer. "There are too many of them. If this turns into a fight, we may be the ones who lose.""We can't give in," Madeline said. "If we do it once, they'll never leave us alone."I turned to look at Damian standing in the shadows. "What do you think?"Damian shrugged. "Your call.""Eli, even if they find food, there won't be enough for everyone. They'll only turn on each other."I laid out my plan. "Let's lend them one raft. Tell them to find their own boats.""There are outdoor stores all over Miami. If they move fast, they may find a rescue boat or another raft. Then they won't keep coming after ours."Madeline stared at me. "What if they lose it or someone steals it? What will we use?""I still have another raft."Damian added, "And I have a rescue boat."Elliott and Madeline were stunned.Of course, I knew human nature was a mi

We rushed downstairs.Water had risen to the fourth floor, and a group of people gathered at the stairwell entrance, desperate to find a way out.As Madeline's inflatable boat approached with the lifesaving supplies, their eyes filled with resentment, anger, and even hatred. They stared at us with jealousy and open delight at the thought of robbing us.These bystanders showed no intention of helping. Some even seemed eager to grab what we had once we docked.I held two knives in my hands, stepping forward through the crowd, standing by the window. The bloody blades gleamed in the dim hallway, their presence intimidating enough for those approaching to step back by two steps.Someone, still unwilling, tried to call out, but Damian, towering over them, stepped up besid

  • My Mate Killed Me—Then I Came Back   Chapter 23

Evelyn's POVI scanned the rescue boat and noticed it was packed with supplies.Taking advantage of the darkness, I slipped my hands behind my back and pulled out two waterproof backpacks from my storage space. Then, gripping the oar tightly, I approached the boat.As I got closer, I realized it was Damian.Even though he was wrapped in a raincoat and wearing a gas mask, his unique aura was unmistakable to me and our wolves. No wonder he could take such good care of Giselle. He must be collecting supplies every night.Since we were all on the same page, there was nothing awkward about it.Damian recognized me despite all my gear. Through the pounding rain, he gave me a quick nod. After tying off the boats, he held out a hand and helped me up.I handed him the heavy waterproof backpacks, using his momentum to leap onto the shore. Then, I quietly stowed the rubber boat back into my storage space. We remained silent, each carrying or holding supplies as we walked upstairs.Back on the ei

  • My Mate Killed Me—Then I Came Back   Chapter 22

Evelyn's POVMy heart jolted as I realized someone was robbing us in the middle of the night. In the darkness, a flashlight beam flickered, and I crouched behind a shelf, my nerves on high alert.I had no idea how many people were involved. Werewolves have an advantage over humans in terms of physical strength, but that wouldn't help them much in this deep water. So, if we got into a direct confrontation, I might not come out on top.The most dangerous part was that if they found the supplies on the second floor or discovered my secret storage space...I couldn't take that risk.I pulled a compact scuba mask from my storage space and put it on. Then I slipped underwater and followed the route I remembered toward the fire exit.Murky water rushed through the gaps in my rain suit. The extra weight dragged at me.I held my breath, stripping off the cumbersome raincoat as I swam. When I could no longer hold it, I surfaced just enough to breathe through the mask.Listening closely, I heard

Evelyn's POVThe grocery store was only two stories tall, but it stood on higher ground.I stowed away my rubber boat and made my way up to the rooftop parking lot via the driveway. The parking area was vast, packed with luxury cars—Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis...This was a wealthy part of Miami. Before the storm, rich residents had moved their best cars to the top level. Now the vehicles sat abandoned. With a high-powered flashlight in hand, I swept across the sea of cars, scanning each one.Suddenly, a massive luxury RV caught my eye. Just by its logo and specially reinforced armor plating, it was clear this was a million-dollar top-of-the-line bulletproof RV. Not only did it have anti-explosion tires, but its roof was covered in expansive foldable solar panels. In an apocalyptic world, energy was at a premium. This RV not only came equipped with a mobile power system but also offered living quarters, making it a perfect mobile fortress. With a mental command, I

  • My Mate Killed Me—Then I Came Back   Chapter 20

Evelyn's POVThe moment the rescue boats came into view, countless people in the building broke down.People were crying and laughing, their faces a mix of helplessness and elation as they frantically wiped away tears.Three lone rescue boats floated on the cold water, the only lifelines for the entire building. The rescue workers tried to calm the crowd. "Everyone, stay calm! We'll evacuate one floor at a time. Pack only what you need. Children and seniors go first."According to the plan, the first wave of rescues would focus on the low floors that had been completely flooded by the hurricane. But when word spread about the situation, many residents from higher floors couldn't wait. They rushed down like madmen, quickly surrounding the narrow rescue point:"Our homes may not have flooded, but we've run out of food. Please save us!" one woman cried."My family hasn't eaten in three days! We've been living on rainwater. Why didn't you bring food?" another shouted."We pay taxes! You c
