Chapter 2

Author: Cherryblossom
I had enough of this stupid Yorick, but I forced myself to stay calm. I had to.

My mind screamed at me to rip into him, but I swallowed it down.

"Yorick," I said, trying to keep my voice steady, "my job is never to please anyone. And my job right now... is saving the Lycan Chairman."

There was a long pause. Then he laughed, this deep, mocking laugh that made my skin crawl.

"Wait, what did you just say? Lycan Chairman? Hahaha... oh my god, that's the biggest joke I've heard all day. And you're saying... you're gonna save him?"

I grit my teeth.

"Yorick, listen... that's a long story, but I really need to get to him right now. You better..."

"Enough!" He barked, cutting me off.

"Xena, think before you speak. I know the Lycan Chairman got hospitalized. Every healer in every pack has tried to save him. But you... you're a healer who barely treats anyone. What can you even do for him?"

I clenched my fists.

Time was slipping away, and if I didn't speak up, I'd miss the golden window.

"Yorick, listen to me. Cardiac surgery... that's what he needs. And I'm the only one who-"

"Wait-are you really gonna say you're the only one who can save him? You liar!" He barked, venom lacing every word.

"Don't you dare say 'Lycan Chairman' again! He's the one who decides the next Alpha! Got it?"

I felt my stomach drop. Helpless. Furious.

"I don't need your trust, Yorick. Just... tell your girlfriend to leave me alone."

He snorted. "Oh, by the way, Selena already brought her best friend, a well-known healer from another pack, to the Chairman's place. So you, Healer Xena, can relax."

My chest tightened.

Relax? That was impossible.

"Wait... are you 100 percent sure that healer can do cardiac surgery?"

I asked, my voice trembling with disbelief. I'm the chief healer. I should know every capable healer in the entire werewolf community. There's no way someone else could do this.

He laughed. "Yeah... 1,000 percent sure." Then, click. The line went dead.

I stared at the phone, stunned.

So it was fate.

Destiny was stopping me from saving the Lycan Chairman.

And maybe it was destiny stopping Yorick from ever being Alpha.

Selena, who had been standing behind me, smirked.

Her green eyes sparkled with mischief as she leaned closer.

"Wow," she said. "Can't believe Yorick even picked up your call. He must've been bored while waiting for me at the bar, so he just answered some random call."

I swallowed my anger, my hands clenching at my sides.

"Do you even know Yorick has a mate?" I asked slowly, trying to make her understand.

She blinked at me like I'd just spoken another language.

Then she tilted her head and laughed, this sharp, teasing laugh that grated on my nerves.

"Let me guess... you're his mate, huh? The boring, pretending-to-be-mysterious mate. He told me about you before. Swore he'd dump you the moment he became Alpha."

I froze. My blood ran cold.

I thought he might be tired of me being busy with my work, so maybe he found some distraction... but to plan to reject me?

That was heart-piercing.

While I was breaking my back in the operating room, fighting for every coin, planning a future where he and I could stand taller together... he was already plotting how to throw me away.

I glanced at my watch. If I waited another ten minutes, I'd definitely miss the golden window.

"Fine," I said, taking a deep breath. "I have to go now. And if you try stopping me... you can't handle the consequences."

Selena laughed, a cold, crazy sound echoed.

"Consequences? Oh honey, what consequences? I'll be totally fine if I kill you right here, right now. You understand?"

My patience snapped. I had no time to argue with her nonsense. I moved toward the car. Before I could even open the door, she raised a hand and muttered something to her soldiers.

The leader of her little army stepped forward, massive and confident.

He slammed a fist into my stomach with everything he had.

I cried out as the air whooshed from my lungs.

My phone flew out of my hand, skittering across the floor.

Pain shot through my stomach.

My healer instincts screamed, it's damaged, badly.

Selena sauntered toward me, her high heels clicking against the concrete.

Every step was deliberate, mocking. She stopped directly over me and pressed one heel down onto my chest, right above my ribs. The pressure made it hard to breathe.

"Who told you you could leave?" she whispered, voice dripping with venom.

I could feel the silence pressing down heavier than the bullets that had just been fired. Selena's body was still warm on the ground, her blood soaking into the dirt. The spoiled Beta's daughter, who just hours ago had been barking orders at me, now lay motionless with her eyes open, frozen in disbelief.Everyone saw it. Everyone heard the gunshots. Three clean bullets, arm, chest, heart. The Elder leader hadn't even hesitated. And now, every single person who hurt me before... every single one of them realized how badly they had screwed up.Luna's lips trembled. She clutched Yorick's arm like a drowning woman holding onto driftwood. "Tell them," she whispered frantically. "Tell them you're Xena's mate. Maybe, maybe they'll think twice."I almost laughed. The desperation in her voice was pathetic.Yorick looked at me, then shook his head with a bitter smile. "Don't you remember? You pushed me to reject her minutes ago. And she rejected me too. We're not mates anymore."His words cut

Soldiers poured in like a black tide, surrounding us on all sides. Not just a few squads, this was an army. There were more of them than Selena's whole troop, more than the Moon Pack could ever pull together on short notice. Trucks lined the road, and behind them rolled tanks. Actual tanks. My heart skipped. Then the largest tank hissed open, and the Elder leader jumped down. His eyes were bloodshot, his chest heaved with rage. When he let out a howl, the kind that ripped through bone and marrow, every single wolf in the clearing froze. Even the air felt like it cowered."Who did this?" His voice thundered. "Who dared to lay hands on her? I'll make you pay double!"Everyone's heads snapped toward me. Luna's face drained of color, Selena's lips parted in shock, and Yorick stiffened beside them. The Luna tried to smooth things over. "Leader, please, "But he cut her off with a growl that made the ground tremble. "I don't need excuses. I need the truth!"Selena, clueless as ever, crossed

I clenched my jaw so hard it hurt. My body was weak, but I forced my voice out."Listen to me. Cure me. Do whatever you can, use everything you've got. This is your last chance to redeem yourselves."They thought I was bluffing, but I wasn't. I knew Ethan had already slipped a message to the Elder Leader. Ethan was quiet, but smart. If I didn't make it out of here, he'd make sure every single one of them paid. He'd bury them with me.But Selena still didn't get it. That girl lived in her own world. She laughed coldly and stepped closer."What's your problem, huh? You destroy Yorick's future, and now you try to threaten us? You've got no cards left, Xena."She turned to Yorick with that fake sweet smile."You should reject her right now. Do it, and I swear, on my name, I'll make sure you're back in the running for Alpha. That's nothing for me. I can handle it."I glared at him. He hesitated, shifting from one foot to the other.Yorick. Reject me. If you have even a drop of guts, do it n

The Lycan Chairman was the only one who could decide who became the next Alphas in each pack. Losing him meant everything had to be reset. All the Alpha candidates, men who had fought, bled, and clawed their way through brutal tests, would be tossed back into the fire. Every ounce of pain they endured to reach this stage would mean nothing. Their fates were rewritten in one cruel moment. And Yorick... my mate... had thrown his future into the fire with his own hands.I remembered the Chairman once asking me quietly, when no one else was around: "Do you regret being his mate? Do you want to reject him, Xena, and wait for a better second chance?"Back then, I laughed. I told him no. I told him I believed in Yorick, believed he was diligent, steady, trustworthy. I said I'd help him in every way, even at the final step, so the path to Alpha would be smoother. Now, seeing the man he had become, I realized how blind I was.Yorick's phone buzzed in his hand, the screen glowing cold against t

I wasn't fully awake when I saw Selena storm toward me. Her heels clicked hard against the floor, her perfume choking the air. Before I could react, she snatched the phone out of my hand."Don't even dream of texting anyone," she shrieked. Her voice cracked like a whip. Then she slammed the phone onto the ground and stomped on it again and again until the screen shattered like glass under ice.Something inside me snapped. My chest burned. My heart felt like it was being torn apart by claws. The pain dragged me under, and the world went black. In the darkness, I thought I saw him, the Lycan Chairman. His figure was hazy, his voice desperate."Save me... Xena. You're the only one who can..."I reached for him, crying, choking out apologies."I'm sorry. I'm sorry I can't. Please forgive me."But then his face appeared instead, Selena's face. Her eyes glowed red, dripping with blood. I screamed inside the dream. When I jolted back to consciousness, my throat ripped open in a fit of coughin

  • My Mate's Mistress Regretted Stealing My Exclusive Ride   Chapter 4

"Yorick! Did I tell you to wait for me at the bar?!" Selena screamed, her voice piercing the night air as soon as she spotted a car pulling up. Her excitement was ridiculous, almost funny, if I weren't in this much pain. And she almost jumped out of the car.The moment the car door swung open, Selena froze. It wasn't Yorick. It was Ethan. His bodyguard uniform marked him immediately, but more than that... he had always been reliable. The guy had seen me talking to the Elders before, but never betrayed me to Yorick. That meant something. That meant I could... maybe... trust him.I groaned, weak, barely able to speak. "Ethan... please... hospital... now..." My voice cracked with pain. Every breath hurt, every movement sent sparks of fire through my mangled wrists and scorched skin. However, Selena's voice turned high-pitched, whiny, almost comical. Ethan couldn't hear me. "Where's Yorick? I wanted him to pick me up!"Ethan glanced at her, his jaw tightening. "Yorick already left," he sai
