NEVEAH

The reception began before I had fully recovered from the fact that I was now a married woman.

One moment, Sebastian and I were standing beneath the ceremony arch while our families applauded and photographers competed for the best angle. The next, we were being guided through a short corridor towards the reception hall while people congratulated us, hugged us, shook our hands and told us how beautiful the ceremony had been.

I smiled until my cheeks hurt.

Sebastian seemed to be coping be

NEVEAHI had a feeling Sebastian was enjoying himself far too much.He had been in an exceptionally good mood since we left the house, and the faint smile on his face suggested that winning the Asterion Project had only made it worse.I glanced at him as he drove.“Are you planning to smile like that all evening?”“Like what?”“Like someone who has just been handed the keys to the world.”He chuckled. “I won a contract, Neveah. Not the world.”“Give it time. I'm sure you'll find a way to become insufferable about that too.”“I'm already insufferable, apparently.”“You're learning.”He reached across the centre console and took my hand, brushing his thumb over my knuckles.“I'm happy,” he said.“I noticed.”“Is that a problem?”“No. I'm happy for you.”His expression softened. “Thank you.”I looked out of the window, hiding a small smile. I genuinely was happy for him. I had wanted Sterling Holdings to win, and losing had been disappointing, but I knew how much work his team had put in

NEVEAH The morning of the Asterion Project presentation arrived sooner than I expected. I stood in front of the mirror, fastening the buttons of my plum-coloured blouse beneath a tailored black blazer. My hair was neatly styled, my documents had been reviewed twice, and my presentation slides had been checked by the team the previous evening. There was nothing left to prepare that hadn't already been prepared. At least, that was what I kept telling myself. Sebastian appeared in the doorway, adjusting his cufflinks. “Ready?” I glanced at him through the mirror. “I've been ready.” “Of course you have.” He walked over and straightened the lapel of my blazer. His gaze lingered on my face. “You look lovely.” “Thank you. You look presentable yourself.” “Presentable?” “Don't push it.” He laughed, then kissed my forehead. We had breakfast together, although neither of us spent much time talking about the presentation. We knew what the other was facing, and there

NEVEAHBy Monday morning, the Asterion Project had taken over a considerable portion of my working day.I had spent most of Sunday evening reviewing the preliminary proposal Sterling Holdings had prepared. The concept was promising, but I wasn't entirely satisfied with the proposed arrangement of the commercial and residential sections. It looked impressive on paper, yet I could already see a few practical problems that would become expensive if they weren't addressed early.I had made notes in the margins, marked sections that needed further clarification and sent the revised document to my project team before going to bed. Now, sitting in the conference room with the same team, I was determined to get those changes discussed.“The concept is strong,” I said, looking at the presentation on the screen. “But I don't want us to focus so much on the appearance of the development that we overlook how people will actually use it.”Our project director, Olivia, nodded. “You're referring to

SEBASTIANBy Monday morning, the weekend had already begun to feel too short.Neveah was standing in front of the wardrobe, trying to decide between two blazers, while I sat on the edge of the bed fastening my watch. She had been staring at the same two options for nearly a minute.“You know,” I said, “they're both perfectly acceptable.”She glanced at me through the mirror. “I didn't ask for your opinion.”“Then why are you looking at me?”“I was wondering how long it would take you to offer one.”I smiled. “And here I was, thinking you wanted my assistance.”“I'd rather ask the wardrobe.”“Cruel.”She finally selected the dark plum blazer and slipped it on. I watched her adjust the sleeves before collecting her handbag from the dressing table.“Ready?” I asked.“Almost.”She walked over, straightened the collar of my shirt, and brushed an invisible speck from my shoulder. Her fingers lingered briefly before she looked up at me.“You're going to be late.”“Not if you stop distracting

NEVEAHI had made one mistake when I agreed to visit the art exhibition with Sebastian.I had assumed he would behave himself. That assumption lasted approximately fifteen minutes.“Are you actually reading the description?” he asked, standing beside me.I glanced at him. “Yes.”“You've been looking at the same painting for quite some time.”“Perhaps I'm appreciating it.”“Or perhaps you're trying to understand why someone would pay that much money for a painting of three blue circles.”I looked at the painting again. “It's called abstract art.”“I'm aware.”“Then stop judging it.”“I'm not judging it. I'm questioning the artist's confidence.”I laughed despite myself. “You don't have to understand everything.”“I understand enough to know I could probably paint that.”“Then perhaps you should try.”He turned towards me with a thoughtful expression. “Would you buy it?”“Not even if you offered me a discount.”He placed a hand over his chest. “That's hurtful.”“I'm sure you'll recover.

  • My Nemesis Became My Husband    CHAPTER 94

SEBASTIAN I discovered that Neveah had a very particular way of enjoying a Sunday morning. She liked sleeping late, having breakfast without checking her phone every five minutes, and reading in bed for as long as she pleased. Unfortunately, she also believed these activities should happen without interruption, which presented a problem for someone who enjoyed her company as much as I did. I had been awake for nearly an hour when she finally stirred beside me. She stretched, turned towards my side of the bed and promptly stole most of my pillow. “Good morning,” I said. She opened one eye. “What time is it?” “Almost nine.” “Why are you awake?” “Because I have responsibilities.” “On a Sunday?” “Some of us are dedicated to our work.” She pulled the duvet over her shoulder. “Some of us value our peace.” I laughed and leaned over to kiss her forehead. “I love you.” “Love you too. Now let me sleep.” “Very romantic.” “You've already received your affection allo
