Chapter 5

*

A tongue licking me woke me up. It's Lupus. I'm in bed. How did I get here? Wait, what happened? Right after looking at Lupus I remembered what I saw. Was it a dream?

"Lupus? Were you human?"

"Woof."

"No way, I probably was dreaming. There's no way you turned into a human. Right?" He licked my face again.

It's already 11pm. "Wanna go out again?"

"Woof!"

"Let's go then."

I changed into my exercise clothes then we left. It didn't take long to get to the woods. He wondered off. I'm hoping he won't run too far because I won't be able to find him.

Did I really dream that Lupus was human? And he turned into that guy? But what if it wasn't a dream? Then, am I living with a beast?

"Woof woof!" I heard Lupus howling in the woods. I ran in without a second of thinking.

"Lupus, what's wrong?" I found him with a rabbit in his mouth. Gross! I almost barfed. "You know what, I'm not gonna say anything. Enjoy your late night snack." I went back out to the street.

It actually feels nice going for a late night walk. We should do this more often.

We went back home after 30 minutes of him wondering in the dark woods. "What happened to your pack, buddy?"

"Woof!"

"I don't understand what you're saying."

"Woof woof!" I chuckled.

We jogged together until we got to my-our neighborhood. "Keylan? Is that you?" Sigh, Mike again.

"Why do you keep popping up like a zit that won't quit?" I paused.

"Look, I want to talk to you about something."

"Again? Why do you have so much to talk to me about? Why don't you talk to your boyfriend."

"I'll make this quick then." Lupus started growling after seeing Mike approach me. I just remembered how much he hates people.

"Stop! Don't come close to me." I panicked.

"What? I wanna talk though."

"Just, just stay there." I took Lupus into the house. "Stay here. I'll be back in five minutes."

"Woof!"

"Shh. I'll be back."

I went back to Mike. "Was that a dog? It sounded mad. And it really didn't look like a dog."

"Uh, you said you wanted to talk to me about something."

"Right. I want you to know something about me."

"What?"

"I'm not a player." I chuckled while rolling my eyes. "I really am not. When I love I really love. It's just that I easily love so I fall for others too."

"What?"

"I promise I never meant to hurt you in anyway. Holland and I, it happened because we were drunk. We weren't aware of what we were doing."

"You actually think I'd believe that? Look, Mike, I already said I don't care anymore. Just enjoy the rest of your life with your new boyfriend."

"Woof!" Lupus started barking like crazy and I heard things fall.

"Huh? What was that?"

"I have to go." I tried leaving but he held my hand right before I could leave.

"I really am sorry."

"Just stop bothering me. I'm done with you two." I yanked my arm out of his grip then ran to the house. Lupus was getting annoyed that I left him alone again. "Okay, I'm sorry. Just calm down."

"Woof woof woof woof woof!" He started complaining nonstop.

"I said I'm sorry. How can I make it up to you then? You want more meat?" He froze staring at me. "Is that it?" He started sniffing around until he reached the kitchen. "What is it?" I followed.

He suddenly yawned then went to the bedroom, I still followed. "What was that? You were mad and now you're tired?" He got on the bed proudly ignoring me. "Fine then." I turned off all the other lights leaving the bedroom light on. I took a quick shower first before getting in bed.

He's sleeping so peacefully. He's such a diva though. I also fell sleep after a little while.

In the morning I let him out in the garden while I made breakfast. I have an afternoon study class today and I don't know how to tell him. I'm sure he's gonna freak out.

Coincidentally, I took out the trash the same time as Mike. He tried waving at me but I ignored it and headed back inside.

"Lupus, breakfast." He came running back inside. "I have to tell you something. I have class later." He stopped eating and stared at me. "What? It's not like I have a choice."

"Woof!"

I guess 'class' is his least favourite word now. But because of him I haven't been able to study much these past few days. I've been too busy taking care of him and dealing with Holland and Mike.

"It's gonna be like this for the next 5 years, buddy. You just have to persevere." He tried bitting my face but I dodged him. "Hey, stop it. I have to go to school so I can get a job and take care of you, you big baby."

"W*~oo!"

"Wait, did you just say wow?" I chuckled with a brow raised.

"Woof!"

"You're full of surprises." I got up and went to bath. After I was done I found him siting in front of the door. "Really?"

"Woof!"

"Move, I have to go. I promise I'll bring you a treat when I get back." He came to me. "You really love food, huh. Just like me." I chuckled while giving him a goodbye hug.

I opened the door, "Bye~" I left. 

Then I saw someone standing right next to my mailbox. It's my neighbor. "Hello." I greeted her.

"Oh, morning. I just wanted to talk to you about something very serious."

"Oh? What is it?"

"Your dog. He is very loud and he's disturbing my inner peace."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"I need you to get rid of him."

"Ma'am, I can't do that."

"Kid, where are your parents? I need to speak with them."

"Okay, first of all ma'am, I'm not a kid. Second, I don't live with my parents. And third, I'm not getting rid of my dog."

"Then I'm calling the police."

"Go ahead, Karen." I put on my headphones and left her complaining non stop.

If she said Lupus is being loud at night I would've understood but saying I should get rid of Lupus because he is disturbing her inner peace?! That's just rude and insane.

Finally going home. I can't wait to see Lupus. I'm already loving him this much. It pains me to even think about him leaving me.

I finally got home not after long. Lupus immediately jumped into my arms. "Hey buddy." I'm finally getting used to him jumping on me. I didn't fall!

"I'm sure you missed me a lot."

"Woof woof!"

"Yeah, me too."

We just sat in the living room. He was playing with his squid while I was on YouTube watching videos about dogs. I wonder if he also likes peanut butter.

I went to the kitchen and came back with a spoon covered in peanut butter. He immediately came to me and started licking the peanut butter off the spoon. "I guess you like it too."

I gave him two more spoons. He passionately ate all of the peanut butter.

Suddenly, his skin started losing hair, his snout retracted back into his skull and he turned into a human. I jumped back in fear of what I just witnessed.

"W-what the hell?" I stared at the naked guy in front of me. "Wait, you again?" It's that guy from before. That means I wasn't dreaming before. Lupus actually turned into a man.

"Hmm?"

"What the hell is going on? What are you?"

"I am Lupus."

"No, you're a- I don't even know what to call you. You were a wolf just a second ago." He nodded. "Are you a werewolf?" He nodded again. "Werewolves exist?" I asked myself but he nodded again. "Well, why didn't you say anything earlier?"

He pouted.
