Chapter 2 Frank gave me a week off.

Author: Arlene
But the very next day, the company called me in for the accident review meeting.

When I walked into the conference room, still injured, Cedric was already there.

Elena sat next to him, running her foot up and down the inside of his calf under the table.

Frank was furious. He slammed the accident report down on the table.

"Edwin Hart only flies regular aircraft. He hasn't been trained to fly in winter conditions yet.

"Who the hell signed off on him taking over this flight?"

Cedric glanced at me. He didn't hesitate for a second.

"Frank, I reported the shift swap ahead of time.

"As for what happened to Edwin, that's all on the tower for giving him the wrong instructions.

"If they'd bothered to read the swap notice, they would have given Edwin a safer route instead of sending him straight into the storm."

I was the one on duty that day, and no one had ever sent me anything about Cedric swapping shifts.

He pulled out a screenshot of a text thread, dated three days before the accident.

"I told Cassandra. I was only taking Elena on that trip for her birthday.

"If you ask me, Cassandra was jealous and lost control. She knew Edwin wasn't trained for those conditions, but she deliberately sent him into the danger zone anyway."

Elena's eyes reddened.

"Cassandra just warned me. She said as long as she's at this company, no woman is allowed anywhere near Cedric."

Elena kept chiming in to back him up, and then Cedric actually laid a psych evaluation on the table.

According to it, I showed signs of mental instability and an extreme need to control Cedric.

I clenched my fists. That evaluation had been doctored.

A few months ago, I'd been part of a rescue operation. Afterward, I struggled to sleep and often had nightmares.

It was Cedric who had gone with me to counseling.

"That's not what happened at all. I never received any notice about a shift swap."

The room was split.

Some of my coworkers wanted me suspended, while others questioned whether the screenshot was even real.

I slapped my phone down on the table.

"I never received any notice about the shift change. If you don't believe me, I'm willing to cooperate with any investigation."

A tech from IT quickly pulled the data off my phone. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke. "It's going to take some time to verify all this."

Frank thought it over for a long time before he finally gave his answer. "Until the results come back, Cassandra is suspended."

I had no choice but to hand over my ID badge. During the ten-minute break, Cedric dragged me aside.

"Cassandra, when you get the chance, tell them you did it. Say you were jealous and deliberately gave the pilot the wrong information."

Yesterday's crash was a major accident. Whoever was found at fault would never be allowed to work in this industry again.

"Cedric, if I confess, I won't be able to keep working here."

Everything Cedric said was about protecting himself.

"Once you sign it, the company will drop the matter. But if I admit I'm responsible, I'll never be allowed to fly again!

"Your family's loaded. It's not like you need the job.

"But it's different for me. If I can't be a pilot, I've got nothing!"

A helpless laugh escaped me.

Cedric kept switching between sweet-talking me and pressuring me. It was obvious he'd keep this up until I gave in.

"You've always wanted to marry me, haven't you, Cassandra?

"Take the fall for me and save my career, and I'll marry you in three months as planned. Otherwise, I'll marry Elena instead."

I hit record on the phone in my pocket.

"Fine. I'll think about it."

When I returned to the conference room, Edwin called from the hospital.

He was out of danger now.

"A few days ago, Cedric came to me. He pulled rank as the senior pilot and asked me to cover his flight."

Every now and then, pilots at the airline swapped shifts privately. But if anything ever went wrong, the company always made sure to get to the bottom of it.

In the end, Cedric got grounded too, while I stayed suspended pending the investigation.

As soon as I walked out of the conference room, I called my father's lawyer.

"Yesterday's accident has caused serious fallout. Are any of our shareholders looking to pull out?"

"Yes. A few of them are planning to sell some of their shares."

Once I had everything confirmed, I answered without hesitation.

"Good. However many shares they're selling, we'll buy them all.

"I'm going to be the airline's largest shareholder."

He'd never seen me look at him that coldly before.Edwin's bodyguards threw him out.But the very next day, Cedric brought a crowd of reporters and camped out at my front door.He was going to propose in public and pressure me into forgiving him.Cedric had cast himself as the devoted, remorseful lover and stayed planted outside the door. But I wasn't about to cave and forgive him just because he was trying to guilt-trip me in front of everyone.I walked right out, with Edwin at my side. The moment he saw me, Cedric got down on one knee and held up the diamond ring."It took me until now to see it, Cassandra. You're the one who loves me most."I let some cheap tramp lead me astray. Please come back to me. I'll spend the rest of my life loving you the way you deserve."The crowd broke into applause, all of them urging me to forgive him. They didn't know the whole story, and Cedric was using them.I had my lawyer play a recording of Cedric insulting me while he was in Elena's bed."How c

Cedric's face fell a little at the sight."Cassandra, can we just sit down and talk?"It was time to end things for good. I wanted him out of my life.Cedric sat down across from me and slid a ring box toward me."I've broken things off with Elena for good. And I bought a new diamond ring."Cassandra, I want us to get back together."He said it like it was the most natural thing in the world, as if getting rid of Elena was all it took.As if that alone could wipe out all the betrayal and all the hurt.I didn't open the ring box."Whatever happens between you and her has nothing to do with me. I'm still leaving you."Cedric frowned, but his tone softened. "Cassandra, you only bought the airline because you were angry with me, didn't you?"I'll admit it. I didn't respect you enough, and I didn't show you enough love."I'm apologizing, and I mean it. Can't you just forgive me? We can still have the wedding as planned."One look at his smug face took me straight back to the day of the acci

  • My Pilot Fiancé Framed Me, Now I'm His Boss   Chapter 7 The gala wasn't even over when Cedric and Elena were thrown out.

Cedric stumbled home in a daze, barely aware of how he got there. He returned to the home he once shared with Cassandra and called out without thinking. "Cassandra?"No one answered. He let out a few weak, hollow laughs."Cassandra's probably with Edwin at this hour."There was nothing of Cassandra's left in the house. There had never been much to begin with. He'd hated having any trace of her around, even as he enjoyed everything she did for him. He'd been disgusted by her weight and the fact that she wasn't hot and wild like Elena.Cedric opened the fridge, looking for a few drinks to drown his sorrows in.But the fridge was empty. No food, not even water. That was when he remembered he'd been staying at Elena's place all this time.He hadn't been home once, and he hadn't let Cassandra come over either. Before that, Cassandra had taken care of everything in his life. She used to keep the fridge stocked, pick up fresh steaks, and make sure he ate well. She'd cared about his reputation

  • My Pilot Fiancé Framed Me, Now I'm His Boss   Chapter 6 I took the engagement ring out of my pocket and tossed it at Cedric's feet.

"I'm not your fiancée, Cedric."I stopped being your fiancée the moment you went on vacation and got intimate with another woman. The moment you lay in another woman's bed and humiliated me."When you tried to make me take the fall for you without a single thought for what it would do to me. That was the day it ended."We've been over for a long time. And I swore I'd make you suffer every bit of pain you put me through."Cedric's face darkened. Because of my position now, he swallowed his anger and kept his voice down. "You spent all that money buying the company, and you're telling me it wasn't because of me?"Sometimes, I really had to admire Cedric's sheer arrogance."You're flattering yourself, Cedric. I bought this company to get rid of the people I don't want around."And I took control of it so I could deal with the two of you properly."Elena's face twisted. She still couldn't stand the sight of me.She rushed onto the stage, took over the computer connected to the big screen,

  • My Pilot Fiancé Framed Me, Now I'm His Boss   Chapter 5 For a moment, the ballroom went silent. Cedric stared at me, disbelief written all over his face.

Maybe he was shocked by how much I'd changed in just three months.Or maybe he was stunned that I'd bought the airline."You bought the whole company?!"Frank cleared his throat and corrected him, "Ms. Reed is now this company's largest shareholder. And watch your tone, Cedric!"Cedric paid no attention to Frank at all. His eyes kept roaming up and down my body.He took in the three million dollars' worth of jewelry around my neck and the designer gown I had on.He got over his shock fast, and a smug look crept into his eyes."So this is what you've been up to for the past three months, Cassandra."Losing weight. Getting cosmetic work done. Buying up shares in the company I work for."You did all that to win me back, didn't you?"Since you've gone to so much trouble, I suppose I could let you come back—"Before he could finish, Elena's face twisted. She rushed over and grabbed his arm, as if she were terrified someone would steal Cedric away."Cedric, don't let her play you!"If you as

  • My Pilot Fiancé Framed Me, Now I'm His Boss   Chapter 4 Cedric used the time he was grounded to earn a whole stack of flight certifications.

That was enough for the company to stop taking disciplinary action against him.But that didn't mean I was going to let him off the hook. The company gala started right on time. Elena, in a white gown, was clinging to Cedric's arm.A former coworker teased them, "So, Elena, you're the one Cedric's marrying, right?"A handsome guy and a gorgeous girl. You two really light up the room."The two of them just smiled and said nothing, all but confirming what everyone was thinking.A slideshow about Cedric's career began playing on the screen at the front of the room. His graduation. The exams he traveled from city to city to take.Training with the company. Practicing out on the airfield. In every single photo, I'd been photoshopped out and replaced with Elena. She nestled against Cedric and addressed the crowd. "I was the one who stayed by his side through those three months he was grounded."A fat pig like her thinks money can buy everything. But it'll never buy her true love."Cedric rai
