Chapter 4

Author: Betty
Three words had set the Veronatri clan ablaze.

That very night, Bessie was warmly invited to the Veronatri to discuss the wedding.

I had intended to hide in my room, but Bessie took the initiative to come upstairs to check on me.

But as soon as the door closed, she dropped her smile and stared disdainfully at my stomach:

“Julian, I know you were the one who slept with Gilbert last night. Since you’re being so sensible, take this pill.”

“I don’t want any accidents happening between Gilbert and me.”

Looking at the pill in her palm, I assumed Gilbert had asked her to deliver it and take a jab at me, to make me give up any thoughts about him.

Seeing that I obediently took the pill without a word.

Bessie went downstairs, satisfied, and told everyone that I wasn’t feeling well and wanted to rest.

Madre tried to come upstairs to check on me several times, but Bessie and Lytton stopped her.

Not long after taking the pill, my abdomen began to ache faintly.

Not wanting to alarm Madre, I endured the pain and forced myself to sleep.

Between sleep and wakefulness, it seemed someone else entered my room and fed me something.

The familiar bitter taste spread on my tongue, and I instantly woke up.

Seeing it was Gilbert, I habitually whined:

“Gilbert, my stomach hurts so much, I want to go to the hospital...”

He gently brushed away the hair on my forehead, which was soaked with cold sweat, and said coldly:

“Didn’t I tell you to go to my room and take the pill? Why didn’t you go?”

“Did you want to keep the abomination in your belly?”

It was then that it dawned on me that he had just fed me two emergency contraception pills.

The doctor specifically instructed that I could take a maximum of two pills.

But counting the ones Bessie gave me, I took a total of four.

“Brother, didn’t you ask Bessie to bring me medicine? I already took it...”

I got up, wanting to induce vomiting, but Gilbert pushed me back onto the bed:

“Julian!”

“I’m getting married soon. As long as you behave and don’t cause trouble, I can let you be my bridesmaid.”

I clenched my jaw—bridesmaid was your “biggest favor”? I didn’t need it.

All I knew was that my abdomen was experiencing waves of excruciating pain, even more painful than childbirth in my previous life.

The next second, a gush of warm blood flowed out from beneath me.

The panic of losing my life instinctively made me grab Gilbert’s hand:

“I don’t want to be a bridesmaid. Please, take me to the hospital...”

He looked at the bright red blood beneath me, and complex emotions welled up in his eyes.

“Julian, the doctor said it’s normal to bleed after taking the medicine. Just get some sleep and you’ll be fine.”

“By dawn, we can go back to how we used to be.”

He thought that an emergency contraceptive pill should be like an abortion, with heavy bleeding.

The more blood that flowed, the more completely that child who shouldn’t exist would disappear...

I saw him visibly relax his back.

He pried my fingers off his one by one, took my phone, locked me in the room, and strode away.

Separated by a door, I felt like I was back in my previous life, when he left me alone in the bridal chamber.

“Gilbert, we can never go back to how we used to be...”

The blood flowing beneath me increased, and the sounds of celebration for Gilbert’s upcoming wedding had moved to another spot.

My instinct for survival only allowed me to reach the old phone in the drawer.

The call connected, and I only managed to say “Help me” before losing consciousness completely.

The next day, Gilbert, in a good mood, instructed the nanny to clean my room.

The nanny, following his instructions, used the key to open my room door, only to find it wide open.

A strong smell of blood assaulted her senses, but I was nowhere to be found.

She screamed, her face turning pale deathly:

“Something bad happened! Miss Julian, something’s happened to her! She... is gone...”

As if realizing something, his face paled for a moment.

He threw the card at my face and said through gritted teeth:“Julian! You’re ruthless!”“You think this will force me and Bessie to call off the wedding? You’re dreaming!”“I don’t want this stupid money. Keep it for buying your virginity!”“If you really decide to leave me completely, don’t come back crying and begging for my forgiveness!”He turned around and slammed the door as he left.I smiled bitterly and watched him leave, whispering:“Gilbert, don’t worry, I will never come back.”After being discharged from the hospital, I told the Veronatri that I had gone on a trip.Because I don’t want to return to the Veronatri anymore. It wasn’t until a week before the start of the school term that Madre kept urging me to come home, so I went back for a visit. It turned out that the day before my school started was Gilbert and Bessie’s wedding.Madre hoped I could attend the wedding before leaving.Madre treated me well in my previous life, but all of that was based on me giving her Veron

I didn’t want to hide anything from Ann, so I told her everything about having half my uterus removed and the absurd night with Gilbert. Not only did she not blame me, but she felt even more sorry for me.“Julian, I have been through this. Who hasn’t loved a few scumbags when they were young?”“After this experience, we’ll definitely have smooth sailing and a happy and fulfilling life!”She gently wiped the tears from my face and embraced me.The scent of her reminded me so much of my mother from my memories.I indulged myself and cried heartily once more. After Ann left, I took off the jade bracelet to return it to Austen:“I know this is your family heirloom, specifically for the daughter-in-law.”“I’m afraid it will be difficult for me to have children in the future, so it’s not appropriate for me to keep it.”Austen, however, was as stubborn as his parents:“Don’t think so much. My mom gave it to you because she wants the bracelet’s good fortune to bless you.”I accepted the bracel

Gilbert hurriedly ran to my room again to see if I had already returned home, but the room was still empty.Only the faint smell of blood told him that something might have happened to me.He urgently contacted the Consigliere:“Quickly find out Julian! Check all hospitals!”But he didn’t know that I had just woken up in the hospital ICU.The pungent smell of disinfectant fills my nostrils. The pain in my abdomen clearly tells me I’m still alive.Thank God!Tears stream uncontrollably, and a pair of well-defined hands reach out awkwardly to wipe them away.“Julian, are you in pain somewhere? I’ll call the doctor right away!”Turning my head, I see Austen’s anxious face, and my heart inexplicably calms down. That night, I thought I was sure to die.He rushed over after answering the phone. The doctor came to check on me and explained the various post-operative precautions.I learned that if Austen hadn’t rushed me to the hospital in time, I would have died from a massive hemorrhage and

He suddenly pushed Bessie away and rushed to my room. When he saw the winding trail of blood on the carpet, his heart ached uncontrollably. How could there be so much blood? He glanced around the room, rushed to the window, and sighed in relief when he saw nothing frightening in the yard. But he immediately flew into a rage:“No one walks out on me. I want every street watched, every phone tapped. Bring! Her! Back!”...There was a large pool of my blood on the floor.Bessie pretended to smell it and then frowned, speaking with contempt:“Gilbert, don’t worry, how could a normal person lose so much blood?”“Maybe Julian just play a prank to make us worry about her.”“Yesterday Lytton said that Julian has been deeply in love with you since she was a child, maybe our sudden engagement has made her feel uncomfortable...”Gilbert withdrew his gaze from the bloodstains. The unease in his heart instantly vanished.“Hmph!” “I adopted her only for her being alone and helpless.”“She doesn’t k
