RIVER

I am on the bus going back home after a long day of running to attend classes. I had still not familiarised myself with the terrain of the school, so when I had to go to another building for lectures, I was quite lost. I think back to the day and the conversation I had with Lana and Elise about Arlin and his antics.

"I was almost too sure that he was a good boy," Lana said as she popped a roll of bread into her mouth and began chewing. "He was giving off some kind of good vibe; I guess I was wrong," she added once she had swallowed her mouthful of food.

"Huh! I would have sworn that he was a gentleman; how could he think to act that way?" Elise carried on. They had both wanted to crucify me because, apparently, Arlin had gone ahead to try and smear my name. He told Elise that I had begged for a date and embarrassed him when we got to the restaurant because I found a cuter guy. If he wanted to slander my name, he should have thought of a better lie.

I did not necessarily care ab

Confession time: Did you just fall a tiny bit for Javier’s hair? Be honest.  Tell me—Team Motorcycle (Taylor), Team Convertible (…RIP Arlin), or Team Across-the-Street (Javier)? Drop your team in the comments. If this chapter gets 30+ comments, I’ll drop a sneak peek of the dinner scene. If it doesn’t… I might give Javier a tragic buzzcut and make Taylor say “sweetheart” five extra times. Your move. — Zera

  • My Roommate is a Boy   VICTIM SAINT

RIVERVideos of Vanessa holding me by the hair and dragging me around, and me running off afterwards, were circulating on the internet—different angles making me seem weak and defenseless. Funny enough, after clearly looking like the victim, everyone else thought Vanessa was the saint. After all, she was spinning a tale that I had stolen her boyfriend. How gullible were people to even believe that? How could the nerd steal the hot girl’s boyfriend? Was she admitting that I was hotter than her? “River, I really need to give you more credit than I already do. I mean, you made the news faster than I did.” Elise had a smug smile on her face as she pulled my hand. “Oh god, don’t you dare remind me of that,” I sighed, wanting to disappear from all the looks I was getting. “We need the tea.” I had finally learned some of the lingo, and I knew that “tea” meant they wanted me to tell them exactly what had happened and why I had become Vanessa’s prey all of a sudden. How else could I hide

  • My Roommate is a Boy    TROUBLE IN DANGER

RIVERI couldn’t help my mind from wandering onto Taylor’s body. Wet, glistening, and firm, even though I hadn't touched it. Not that I didn't want to, but I had to restrain myself from touching or else he would have looked at me like I had a few loose screws in my head. “Get a grip, River Wilson,” I hushed, screaming at myself in the mirror. I seemed to be losing and slipping out of everything I knew. I knew that I was not really sure what I knew anymore. I rushed a shower and got ready because I did not want to keep Taylor waiting longer than he should have to. He seemed eager to leave, but I made sure we ate something. He couldn't be walking around with a possible hangover without anything to eat. He looked too tense when I mentioned Matt brought it over. Why was I disappointed when, instead of questions, he just looked at me and offered a smile? I saw his back tense first before the sleek grey car on the side of the road. A woman, tall and lanky, maybe a model, walked up to u

  • My Roommate is a Boy   MESSED-UP REALITY

TAYLORMy eyes snapped open; it took me a while to finally get where I was. The living room, on the couch, covered by a blanket. I stay still, trying to run my mind through the events of last night. I got a call from Talia and then from my mom. I wanted to forget, so I got a bottle of beer, and for some reason, one turned to three, and I was drunk and…“Oh my goodness!” A loud gasp escaped my lips as I realized I was drunk and River had both seen and nursed me. The memories were rushing back into my mind as her door opened and she stepped out of her room. Her hair is in a messy bun on the top of her head, and her pajamas still look neat, as if she has just put them on. He yawned and looked around until his eyes settled on me, then they grew wider and he rushed to my side. She sat on the space beside me, hand pressed to my head. “How do you feel?” she murmured, her face peering into mine. My breath hitched in my throat, and I was barely moving. “What are you doing?” I barely murmur

  • My Roommate is a Boy   SOBS AND TEARS

RIVER“Hello, sweetheart?” Taylor is lounging on the couch, a bottle of beer in hand; it was the first time I had actually seen him drink at home. With his reputation, people would think he was a drunkard, but he just keeps on proving to be different from what he had always projected. “Hi.” I hugged the bag that Matt had given me. We knew it was going to be awkward, considering the fact that his roommate had tried to date me and he had been our little cheerleader. “I waited for you.” “I had to leave early in the morning, and my classes ran late,” I said, not knowing what he was speaking about. Moreover, I was not later than usual. “Are you going to ride with me tomorrow morning or sneak out of the house like a robber?” “A robber?’ I almost laughed. “I did not sneak out.” “I saw you sneaking out.” He sat straight, putting the empty bottle onto the table with a smirk. “Are you drunk?” “Don't you dare try to change the topic,” he slurred, but still managed to sound serious.“I

  • My Roommate is a Boy   STUDY GROUP

RIVER“I was thinking of putting together a study group for the midterms. Do you want in?” I looked up from the book in front of me; Lana and Elise stood there neatly put together, while I had spent all Monday morning trying to figure out what it meant when Taylor offered me the tickets instead of Vanessa. “Hmm?” I hummed, my brain trying to process what Elise had just said. They both plopped into the chair in front of me, making themselves comfortable, their bags finding a place on the floor beside them. How the hell did they even find me here? I had stayed away all morning after our lectures had been cancelled. I wanted to read, but I had been staring at the same page, spiraling at Taylor’s act. He had not necessarily changed; he had always been this way, but something about last night was different. “I said I do not think I can pass the midterms on my own, and I am creating a group for study. Do you want to join?” “I told her not to ask you,” Lana chimed in. I raised my eyebr
