Chapter Four

*Quinn*

Ingrid's wolf stalks forward, every muscle in her body taut like a predator about to pounce on the prey.

'Her wolf, that isn't possible.' My wolf Maddox says, and he's right. It's not possible. The legends about white wolves are just that. Legends. Myths.

They go back further than anyone knows, but I've never seen one or met anyone that has come into contact with a white wolf. I never would of thought the stories were true, but here I am, seeing it with my own eyes.

So how is this possible? Ezra said she is suppose to be a Beta's daughter? With the size of her wolf there is no fucking way that is accurate. She's got alpha blood running through her veins, I have no doubt about that.

Who the fuck is this woman that is my mate?

'Doesn't matter, she's our mate Quinn. And I can't wait to get her wolf to come out and play.' Maddox snaps.

'Oh calm down Maddox. I was just wondering what the hell is going on here.'

Howls resounding through the forest breaks me out of the argument that was about to take place with Maddox and I. The pack warriors surrounding the men that meant to try and take my mate away from me, from us.

When I hear the extra howls, my head snaps around to look behind us. The whole pack.. everyone who has the ability to shift, here, coming to protect their Luna.

Fuck, I've never been happier to see them before.

'Shifting back to human form is the only option that we currently have Quinn, you have to speak to the men who were chasing her and let them know that under no circumstances will she be leave with them.' Maddox growls.

'I know, but before speaking to them I will mark her as mine. No one will ever take her from us.' I growl back.

'Agreed. Mark her, let them know she's ours.'

Bones breaking and reshaping into my human form, black fur disappearing and being replaced with skin. I stand to my full height and glance over at my mate, wanting so badly to run my fingers through her fur. She's so fucking beautiful, but now isn't the time for this.

Using my Alpha command I speak to her, "Shift."

But she shakes her head no, what the hell?

"You need to shift." I growl, but she just shakes her stubborn head even harder.

I grasp her head in my hands, looking directly into her wolfs icy blue eyes and snarl in her face. "Shift. Now."

Her big blue eyes roll in a complete circle and the she starts to shift. Oh this one is going to be a handful. I can see it now, she has to have Alpha blood in her. There's no way she could've refused my command otherwise. But the questions started pilling up in my mind. Did she know that? Did she know where or who she came from? Did she know the legends behind the white wolves? Why did the men chasing her look so frightened when she shifted?

I watched as her white fur disappeared, her limbs condensing, muscles spamming their way back into her human form. Then I looked at the most beautiful face I've ever seen, feeling my chest expand with warmth.

"Mate." I whisper.

"Ingrid." She whispers back to me, green eyes locking onto my grey ones.

"You're mine. I won't let anyone take you from me, ever." Snarling the last word, I bite down where her neck meets her shoulder. The taste of her blood hits my lips, the magical bond between us sealing in our fate with one another. I lick the wound, sealing in my saliva. From now on wherever she goes my scent will be on her, everyone will know who she belongs to.

"You have made a mistake Alpha Quinn, she was not yours to mark." The leader of the men, Ezra bellows out.

"Alpha Quinn is my mate, not Stone. The only mistake made here today was you trying to attack me and take me back to Stone." Ingrid says with conviction, taking a step towards the men.

I grasp her arm, pulling her back and into my chest. I know she wants to end this, here and now but that would cause a war that we are not prepared for. "I know you want revenge for what they've put you through baby, but you have to think of the pack now. Everyone here came to protect you, their Luna. If we attack now it will start an all out war between the Grey Ridge Pack and the Black Ridge Pack that we are not prepared for at the moment. Is that something that you want?" I ask.

She took a deep breath and turned to look around at all of the wolves who came her to protect her, to put their lives on the line. For her. For us. "No.. no it's not." She whispers, melting back into my chest.

I nod my head once, looking back to the men still lurking in the back ground. Expectant, like I would willingly give her up to them.

"I don't have to exlpain myself to the you warrior.  You can try and take her from me but you won't be successful. You'll die and start a war in the process without the approval of your precious coward of an Alpha. So I think it would be wise if you leave, now." I tell him.

"This will not be the last that you see of us or the Black Ridge Pack Ingrid, we will come for you." Ezra growls.

I could tell his words shook Ingrid, but her face remained prefectly blank.

"Tell Alpha Stone that I will not return, that I would rather take my own life than become a punching bag for him."
