Chapter 2

Author: Aurora
Bella Rose leaned over, dramatically covering her mouth.

"Oh my, the system shows Aria's bank account is frozen. Don't tell me she's become a dishonored debtor!"

Gasps erupted around us.

"So she's a deadbeat!"

"No wonder she's digging through trash - I knew she was here to scam money!"

"Tsk tsk, looks decent enough, but she's worse than my house servant."

I then remembered that last month our pack went through asset restructuring, and all accounts were changed. The old bank card was indeed deactivated.

Ethan's eyes showed disgust.

"Just how much debt have you accumulated over the years?"

Bella Rose sighed hypocritically.

"Aria, paying debts is only natural. Don't stray further down the wrong path."

I was infuriated by their disgusting behavior.

"Who says I have no money?"

Someone in the crowd suddenly shouted.

"I remember now! No wonder she looked so familiar - wasn't the Blackwood pack acquired by Marcus's Northern Territory two years ago? Miss Blackwood must be bankrupt now!"

This statement exploded like a bomb.

Ethan's expression shifted from disgust to sudden understanding.

"No wonder."

"So you're at your wit's end?"

My temples throbbed.

I hadn't said a word, yet this crowd had already imagined an entire drama.

"I was saying..."

I started to speak but was interrupted by Ethan.

"Stop pretending, Aria. I'm only offering you money out of pity, nothing else. After all, Bella and I are getting married soon - the past is long behind us."

Bella Rose clung to him like a delicate bird, looking at me with pity.

"Regardless, sister, you graduated with a finance degree from a top university. How could you let yourself sink to this level?"

"I know the Blackwood family's troubles hit you hard, but you can't degrade yourself to scamming people for money!"

"Bella Rose!"

I scolded sharply.

"I'm just looking for my belongings. When did that become scamming?"

Bella Rose, having lost face, pouted resentfully.

"If you're not scamming, why are you digging through trash?"

"I was just trying to help you out of kindness. Since you don't appreciate it, forget it."

Ethan frowned.

"What are you still pretending for? Do you think you're still the high-and-mighty Miss Blackwood who needs all of us to worship you?"

I swept them with a cold glance and turned back to search for my ring.

"None of your business!"

Just as I reached out, Thomas grabbed me again.

"Who gave you permission to dig through that? Get out!"

My temper flared.

"Get lost!"

In our struggle, the trash bin toppled over.

A silver gleam bounced and rolled out.

My eyes lit up as I bent to pick it up, but a strong force yanked my arm back.

"Haven't you made enough of a scene?"

He lowered his voice in anger.

"Embarrassing yourself in a place like this - do you have any self-respect left?"

I stared coldly at Ethan's hypocritical face as memories flooded back like a tide.

I forcefully shook off his hand.

"Let go!"

Bella Rose spoke with sarcastic undertones.

"Aria, Ethan means well. The way you are now is really..."

"Shut up!" I spun around to glare at her. "It's not your place to speak here!"

Ethan's expression instantly darkened.

"Aria! How dare you speak to Bella like that? Don't forget who stayed by my side through the hardest times!"

I laughed bitterly at his words.

"Ethan, search your conscience - who really stayed by whose side?"

Memories flashed like a revolving lantern.

During his startup phase, I stayed up nights helping him revise proposals.

When his funding chain broke, I went home to beg my parents for loans to help him.

When competitors suppressed him, I ran around seeking help.

And all of this was repaid with his secret affair with Bella Rose after his success!

I'll never forget the humiliation Ethan put me through the night I discovered the fake mating certificate.

I coldly withdrew my hand and slapped Ethan across the face.

The crisp sound made the entire banquet hall fall silent instantly.

Ethan's face turned aside from my slap, a red mark quickly appearing on his left cheek.

He was stunned for a moment, but instead of getting angry, he spoke in an almost indulgent tone.

"Aria, stop throwing tantrums like a child. Now that you've slapped me, you've vented your anger."

"Be good, apologize to Bella, and I'll take you home."

I was almost laughing from his shamelessness.

"Ethan, are you mentally ill?"

I stepped back, raising my voice an octave.

"I'm already mated! I have a mate and a child - what deep affection are you performing here?"

My voice was steady, controlled, but each word was precisely aimed to hit its mark."When you let me humiliate myself at business dinners, drinking until I collapsed, where was your consideration for old times' sake? When you chose to betray me with Bella Rose, where was your respect for our shared history?"Ethan's tears suddenly fell, large drops that rolled down his cheeks and dripped onto his wrinkled shirt. This once spirited man, who had been so confident in his charm and his plans, now covered his face with his hands and cried like a child."I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong. Aria, I'm worse than an animal. Hate me!"His voice broke completely on the last words, dissolving into choking sobs.I turned my face away, not wanting to watch this display. There was something deeply unsettling about seeing someone you once loved reduced to this state, even when they deserved it.In a trance, I remembered a business reception five years ago, one of the many I had attended in

When Ethan came to find me again, it was snowing the first snow of the year. The flakes fell softly against the windows of our mansion, creating intricate patterns on the glass that Leo had been watching with fascination all morning. The doorbell rang while Marcus, Leo and I were building blocks together in the living room. We had been constructing an elaborate castle, with Leo directing operations like a tiny general while Marcus and I followed his increasingly complex architectural demands."Daddy, the tower needs to be taller!" Leo had just announced when the chime echoed through the house.Through the security monitor mounted discreetly beside the fireplace, I saw Ethan standing outside our gate. The camera's high definition revealed every detail of his deteriorated appearance. This was the same Ethan who always dressed neatly even during his most impoverished days, the man who would iron his shirts with meticulous care even when he could barely afford food. But now he wore a wrink

The lead officer, a stern-faced man with graying temples, was about to speak when sudden chaos erupted.Thomas, seeing the uniforms and realizing that he couldn't escape his fate of imprisonment, felt a surge of blood rush to his brain. The reality of losing everything - his job, his freedom, his future - hit him like a physical blow. His eyes went wild with desperation and rage.He suddenly grabbed a fruit knife from the nearby dining table, the silver blade catching the chandelier light as his face twisted with unhinged fury."You all forced me into this!"His voice was a primal scream as he lunged at Bella Rose with the weapon raise

Manager Lee collapsed on the ground, his expensive suit now wrinkled and stained with sweat. His eyes were bloodshot, the whites visible all around as panic consumed him.The magnitude of Marcus's declaration was sinking in - not just his hotel, but every business represented in this room would lose Northern Territory contracts. Millions upon millions in lost revenue, all because of one employee's stupidity.Suddenly he went mad, scrambling to his feet and violently kicking Thomas with his leather shoes. Each kick landed with a sickening thud against Thomas's ribs and back."You worthless piece of trash! Do you know who you've offended?! The venue is finished! My job is finished! You've ruined my entire life!"His voice cracked with hysteria, spittle flying from his mouth as he continued his assault. Years of built reputation, destroyed in minutes.Thomas knelt on the ground, his face ashen as death. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth where one particularly vicious kick had co

"My mate never said anything like that."Marcus interrupted, his voice cutting through Ethan's desperate claim like a blade. He shifted Leo to one arm with practiced ease and wrapped the other around my waist, pulling me closer against his side. His touch was possessive, protective, making it clear to everyone present exactly where I belonged.Looking coldly at Ethan, Marcus's voice carried absolute certainty."The only person she'll ever love most in this life is me."The declaration sent a thrill through me. Even after all this time together, Marcus still had this effect on me - making me feel cherished, desired, completely his. With that, he leaned down to kiss me, his intentions clear. But suddenly he stopped mid-motion, his body going rigid. He grabbed my left hand, his eyes instantly reddening with a fury I'd rarely seen."Where's your ring?"Only then did I remember the ring hadn't been returned yet. In all the chaos and confrontation, I'd completely forgotten about it.I looked

The man strode quickly across the marble floor, each step echoing with authority. When he saw my disheveled hair and swollen knees from being pressed down, his expression instantly turned terrifying. The temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees. He removed his suit jacket with swift, precise movements and draped it over my shoulders. The fabric still carried his warmth and that familiar cedar scent that always made me feel safe.Leo also took the opportunity to break free from Bella Rose's grip, his small body trembling as he pitifully threw himself into Marcus's arms."Daddy, it hurts!"My heart clenched at my son's tear-stained face. Red marks from Bella Rose's nails were clearly visible on his tender skin. The man's gaze shot toward Bella Rose like a blade, making her face instantly turn deathly pale as she unconsciously hid behind Ethan. The crowd that had been so bold moments ago now pressed against the walls, as if trying to become invisible."A-Alpha Marcus?"Ethan
