Chapter 2

Author: Ferrycraft
I was instantly dumbfounded.

I then heard Mia's voice message. "I'm really not feeling well from the cold, so I asked Anthony to take me home. You couldn't possibly still be waiting outside the company, right, Helena?"

In that instant, all the grievances I had been holding in finally burst forth. I was breathing heavily as I asked, "Did you forget your promise to take me to the hospital today? Why couldn't you bother to drop me a quick message before heading off, even if you couldn't make it, Anthony?"

Mia complained with a huff. "How was anyone supposed to know you'd stay there waiting the whole time? If no one came after a while, you should've left on your own!"

Anthony spoke up to defend Mia. "That's enough, Helena. None of us meant for this to happen. You should head to the hospital first. I'll come pick you up later."

Upon seeing the messages in the group chat, Queenie spoke with a hint of apology in her voice.

"It's all on me! I'm the one who forgot to pass it along! Please don't hold it against Mia, Helena!"

I closed the group chat, feeling completely disheartened.

…

During the examination, the doctor's brow furrowed deeply. "You're not just having menstrual cramps. You had a miscarriage! You're so deathly pale. Why didn't you come to the hospital sooner? Have you come into contact with anything cold lately?"

I was stunned for a moment.

I had come into contact with cold water two days ago when our boat flipped during our company team-building trip at a farmhouse resort. Anthony had waited until the last moment to rescue me to avoid suspicion.

I had bled after that, but I figured I was just having bad menstrual cramps. I numbly rested my hand over my lower abdomen—it turned out a tiny life had once existed right here.

Anthony had arrived by the time I picked up my preion.

I noticed the matching couple plushie I had gotten from the blind box hanging from his rearview mirror. Anthony had never used matching couple items with me before, at home or out in public, because he wanted to avoid suspicion.

I felt strangely moved as I asked, "Didn't you always say matching couple items were too flashy and refused to use them, Anthony?"

Anthony was about to speak, but before he could get a word out, Mia chimed in from the back seat.

She pointed at her handbag, which was decked out with the matching couple plushie, and said nonchalantly, "I was the one who hung that up for Anthony! I've been eyeing this matching set for ages, so Anthony just handed them over to me when he saw how badly I wanted them, Helena!"

Anthony nodded along casually. "You've never used it anyway, and honestly, you're past the age for this kind of stuff, Helena. Mia really liked it, so I gave it to her."

My blood ran cold as I listened to their exchange. Those matching couple plushies were the hidden variant in the blind box series, symbolizing unspoken love.

Anthony had spent three months pulling blind boxes to get it after he found out I liked the hidden variant. I had actually given Mia every single one of the other plushies when she came by last time and asked for them.

I couldn't help but tighten my grip on the seatbelt. Anthony had promised to safeguard everything I loved when he found out Mom and Dad had always favored Mia.

That was why handing over the rest of those plushies hadn't bothered me. I had held onto just this set as our keepsake—proof that though our love couldn't be spoken, it was always there.

Yet Anthony had handed the other half of the matching couple set to Mia as well.

I forced a smile, my lips pale. "You already gave it away, so forget it. I don't like it anymore anyway."

It wasn't just the matching couple plushies that I no longer wanted—I didn't want Anthony anymore either.

Anthony didn't notice anything unusual about me and drove on. He seemed to recall something while he waited at the red light.

He turned to me and asked, "Didn't you say you've been having severe menstrual cramps these past couple of days? How did the checkup go, Helena?"

I couldn't help but tear up after seeing how concerned he looked.

I hadn't even had the chance to speak up when the music in the car suddenly changed from something slow and mellow to rock.

Mia yelled from the back seat, "Your taste in music is so boring! You should listen to what young people listen to, Anthony!"

I replied to my former colleagues, "You don't need to apologize to me. I've already left the company, so we won't have anything to do with each other anymore."I then turned to Anthony and said, "If you had cared just a little more on the day of the meeting and taken me to the hospital, our child might still be alive. You and I might have had a future together. "But it's already too late now. You've lost your chance, Anthony."Upon hearing that, Anthony furrowed his brow deeply. He frantically grabbed my hand and begged, dropping all his pride. "Why can't you give me another chance? I never cheated on you or did anything out of line. "I know I neglected you, and you miscarried because of it, but we can have another one in the future. I'm certain we can have plenty of children in the future, Helena!"I couldn't help but find his reasoning utterly absurd. Anthony might not have cheated physically, but he'd already checked out emotionally ages ago. That was exactly why our relati

Anthony had actually started a live stream in the work group chat before he proposed to me. His employees listened to his apology, their eyes wide with disbelief."W-What? Mr. Sharp was secretly dating Helena, not Mia?""His girlfriend is actually Helena!""D-Does that mean that Helena's miscarried baby belongs to Mr. Sharp as well?"Those who had gossiped about me were stunned, their expressions looking grim. They had unknowingly insulted their boss' girlfriend, after all. How could they possibly stay at the company after this? Some still weren't convinced. "Mia never denied being in a relationship with Mr. Sharp when we asked her before!"They suddenly felt that Mia had deceived them. Those who Anthony had previously reprimanded looked furious. "I freaking knew it! I knew Mr. Sharp threatened to fire us back then because of Helena! There was definitely something shady going on between them!"Anthony glared at Mia as the live stream kept running. "You stole Helena's draft, and

Anthony nodded in agreement and said, "Helena was indeed the one who was wronged this time, so you need to clear this up and tell everyone what really happened, Mia." Mia was completely caught off guard because Anthony's response wasn't what she'd expected. "W-What?""You really do owe Helena an apology for the plagiarism incident, Mia."Mia frowned as she looked at Anthony. She had expected him to brush it off, just like her parents always did. They'd say, "Helena should give in to Mia. Helena has already taken the hit for the incident, so there's no need to make Mia go through that too."She thought putting on a show of admitting her mistakes would win her praise and a reputation for being considerate. Anthony had always fallen for it before, after all.She eventually remained silent, merely nodding before walking out of Anthony's office.…Upon seeing Anthony walk straight toward Mia, her colleagues nudged her and teased, "Mr. Sharp's coming over for you, Mia!"Mia coul

Anthony, who had always turned a blind eye to such comments before, finally spoke up. "We don't keep people around who run their mouths and fabricate lies."Get those from HR to dismiss everyone who was just gossiping here!"One of them refused to accept the decision and spoke up boldly. "Did we say anything wrong, Mr. Sharp? Isn't Helena's miscarriage report right there on your desk? How could she have gotten pregnant before marriage if she carried herself with any decency? She probably doesn't even know who the father is!"What about that postcard? She obviously edited and printed it herself, then copied your signature! Why are you standing up for her anyway, Mr. Sharp? Didn't you hate her just as much? You stayed as far away from her as possible at every single get-together."That day when Helena wanted to sit next to you, you called Mia over instead, and whenever Helena spoke at the meeting, you acted like you couldn't even hear her, Mr. Sharp!" Anthony froze, and Queenie

Third-Person POVAnthony took the miscarriage report with a trembling hand. He noticed Helena's name written right on the report, with the diagnosis being "early-stage natural miscarriage".He was completely stunned, his mind going completely blank as a loud ringing filled his ears. How could this have happened? He had never even known Helena was expecting, let alone that she had lost the baby.Anthony's legs gave out the moment he returned to his office and collapsed into his chair. He frantically called Helena, only to discover that she had already blocked his number. He returned home, but everything was still in its place. Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He opened the drawer where Helena kept her valuables. He noticed that the love letters from before were there, the engagement ring was there, and even the hand-woven bracelet he made for Helene was there. However, he found Helena's ID and passport missing. He was suddenly overwhelmed by pani

I looked at Mia in disbelief, exclaiming, "That's my proposal and handwritten notes! Why do you have them, Mia?"Mia looked briefly rattled, but she still pulled herself together and insisted, "I wrote this myself, Helena."Queenie stood defensively in front of Mia, frowning at me. "I'm fairly certain I saw Mia working on this proposal earlier. Did you plagiarize Mia's work, Helena?"Queenie's words prompted the other colleagues to side with Mia and speak up for her."Just because you've been here longer doesn't mean you can plagiarize a newcomer's work, Helena.""Exactly! Helena was the one collecting everyone's work every day, so it'd be a walk in the park for her to pull a stunt like that!"I was breathing heavily as I looked at Anthony. I had discussed this proposal with him from the first draft to the final version. He even praised my ideas as unique back then. "I discussed this proposal with you a month ago. I'm clearly not the one who plagiarized it, Mr. Sharp."I had e
