Chapter 2

ผู้เขียน: Tiny Key
I couldn't believe someone could still be this fake in this day and age. Didn't she realize how obvious she was?

Just then, Mom and Wallace walked in.

They looked confused when they saw how upset Sandra was and hurried over to her. "What's wrong? What happened?"

The moment Sandra saw Wallace, she really got into the act. She even managed to shed a couple of tears, looking absolutely pitiful.

"It's nothing. Maddie… I mean, Madison doesn't like me calling her that. I won't do it anymore," she said. "I was only trying to be friendly, but she got upset. I didn't mean to. I won't call her that again."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I had lived for over 20 years without ever meeting someone who could put on an act like this.

I had definitely seen it all now.

Mom stepped in to smooth things over. "Oh, come on. It's such a small matter. There's no need to get upset."

Wallace chimed in. "Maddie's probably just cranky because she just woke up. She hasn't adjusted to the time difference yet. Don't take it personally."

He shot me a look, then put an arm around the pitiful-looking Sandra and took her back to his room to comfort her.

I was too angry to eat another bite.

Mom looked at me and asked what had happened, but I told her it was nothing.

I was curious to see what Sandra would pull next.

I had just come back home, and I was craving all the local food I had missed.

I went out with my old friends every day and ate to my heart's content, determined to make up for everything I had missed over the years.

With all that going on, I barely had time to think about Sandra.

Unexpectedly, one of my friends brought her up.

"How are things with your future sister-in-law? She's quite a character, isn't she?"

It was my childhood friend, Keith Culver. He had that smug look that said he knew something and was just waiting for me to ask.

He had been like that since we were kids. I shot him a look and gave him exactly what he wanted. "If you've got something to say, spit it out."

His grin grew even more mischievous. "Sandra's an intern at your family's company. She hadn't even been there for long before she had Wallace, that idiot, completely wrapped around her finger."

I scoffed. "That's it? Who doesn't know that? Tell me something I don't know."

Keith wasn't fazed and continued, "Then did you know she joined the company with only one goal, which was to seduce Wallace?

"Now she goes around acting like they're married and throwing her weight around."

That finally got my attention. I turned to him, and Keith proudly pulled out his phone. He showed me several screenshots of a chat between Sandra and her friends.

"I've got Wallace wrapped around my finger. It doesn't matter how rich or privileged he is. He'll do exactly what I say."

"Wallace took me home to meet his parents. Their house is huge, and they even have a housekeeper. I have to make sure I don't lose this."

"Wallace's sister is coming home soon. She could spell trouble for me, so I'll have to put her in her place as soon as she gets here."

Sandra had to be an idiot to brag about something like this. She couldn't even keep it to herself.

I kept my thoughts to myself and turned to Keith. "So how do you know the person who gave you those screenshots?"

Keith grinned sheepishly. I looked at him with disgust, but he didn't seem the least bit embarrassed.

"What's the big deal? We both wanted something from each other and got what we needed. At least I'm not like Wallace."

  • My Sister-In-Law? Not Without My Permission   Chapter 10

Of course, I made sure Dad heard the recording. He needed a reason to see what Wallace, the son he trusted so much, was really after. That would be far more convincing than me simply telling him, and it would make him even angrier.Sandra wasn't working for me, but I had looked into her before I came home. I knew she would be the perfect person to expose the problems in my family's picture-perfect relationship. She didn't disappoint me.Wallace really did seem to like Sandra. He had spent all those years being careful around my family, yet he let his guard down and showed her what he really thought.Maybe her made-up story about being an orphan made him feel safe enough to open up. Or perhaps he saw something of himself in her. He had come from such a difficult childhood and worked his way to the top.Around Sandra, he had completely lost his sense of caution.Once Dad became suspicious, he was bound to find out the truth. And when he did, there was no place for Wallace in our

Mom and Dad were sad for quite some time. With one less person in the house, the mood at home became somber.Wallace and Sandra moved out.He was no longer my brother, but Dad didn't cut him off completely. He still gave Wallace a house to live in.Dad also didn't expose what Wallace had done. Wallace lost his job, but Dad still gave him a chance to find work elsewhere.Wallace and Sandra really were made for each other. Even after everything that had happened, they still hadn't broken up.Maybe Sandra still thought Wallace was a good choice. After all, even though he had lost his place in the Slater family, he had probably gotten plenty out of us while he was here.Sandra was heavily pregnant too. She was too embarrassed to face the people she knew, and she could only cling to Wallace. But they were no longer the loving couple they had once been. Now they couldn't stand each other, and living together had shown them who they really were.Sandra might have been good at pretend

Wallace looked like he was about to cry, but his words weren't very convincing. After hearing Sandra's voice messages that day, Dad quietly investigated Wallace. He learned Wallace had been stealing money and moving company funds with the finance department. He wasn't about to take anyone's word for it, but he never expected the son he had raised to be this corrupt.Dad told him icily, "Go deal with your own problems first. You don't need to worry about the company for now."Wallace's face went pale with fear. In a panic, his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the floor. He grabbed Dad's leg. "Dad, please give me one more chance. I was wrong. I've learned my lesson!"But Dad was a decisive man. Once he'd made up his mind, he was willing to put an end to their father-son relationship for good."Don't call me Dad anymore," Dad said. "I've raised you on Walter's behalf all these years. You've graduated, and you're about to start a family. I've done more than enough for you.How c

Mom could only sigh and offer Sandra a few words of comfort before sending her back to her room to rest. Before heading upstairs, Sandra even turned back and told Wilma, "Make sure there's some chicken soup and a nourishing stew for me later. The baby needs the nutrients."Apparently, being pregnant had given her plenty of confidence. She now felt perfectly justified ordering Wilma around. She hadn't even had her soup yet, and the house had barely settled down before Wallace came home. After hearing him say that, Sandra completely lost it. She stopped pretending to be helpless and finally turned against Wallace."You said all those things!" she yelled. "You said you'd worked yourself to the bone for this family for years, and that you'd take over the Slater family business one day."You went on about how Madison was just a daughter and didn't matter, and that everything in the company would be yours. "You told me that once I have your baby, I'll never have to worry about anythi

Sandra seemed lost in thought, her expression growing increasingly troubled. But she wasn't about to back down in front of me. She was too used to throwing her weight around here, so she wasn't about to admit she had just been publicly humiliated."Just wait and watch me marry Wallace. Then you'd better show me some respect and treat me like your sister-in-law. Maybe I'll even let you stay."With that, she picked up the designer bag Wallace had given her and stalked off. What a joke. She was still talking about whether she'd let me stay when Wallace might be the one getting kicked out.All Sandra wanted was to marry Wallace, enjoy a life of wealth, and live above everyone else. She didn't even respect me as a member of the Slater family. But no one had ever told her that my brother, Wallace, was only Mom and Dad's adopted son.He had grown up in our home and had always been careful about how he behaved. Mom and Dad had only treated him like their own son because of Wallace's lat

After what felt like an eternity, I couldn't take the tension anymore and broke the silence. "I never thought things would turn out this way. I was only worried Sandra was fooling you. I never expected it to end like this."I didn't know what else to say.Wallace spoke at last. "I know."He kept his eyes lowered behind his glasses, staring at the floor. I had no idea what he was thinking.I went back to my room too. Keith had sent so many voice messages and screenshots that I couldn't possibly go through them all.All I wanted was for my family to see Sandra for who she really was. I never thought it would cause this much trouble.A short while later, Dad knocked on my door. He wanted to hear the rest of the voice messages.Since I was the one who had found them, Wallace stopping them halfway hadn't mattered.Dad listened to the entire recording with a frown, and his expression grew darker by the second. He was a respected businessman, yet Sandra had described him as a fool sh
