“Answer me, why don't you want me to go out there, Ivana?”

“Uhm… there's no reason,” she stammered, her fingers twisting around each other.

“I just thought…that you’d want to get to know more about us first?” Her tone was forced, her smile wobbling.

“What?” I frowned. “Are you doing this on purpose?”

“Doing what?” she blinked innocently, but her eyes darted everywhere except mine.

“You’re preventing me from going out there. What’s happening, Ivana?” I snapped, my pulse quickening.

“No! I would never,” she said quickly, voice rising a little too fast.

“But there’s no need to go outside. I’m sure everything will be settled soon.” She gave me another of those tight, weird smiles that made my stomach twist.

I’d had enough, I brushed past her, reaching for the doorknob. “I’ll go see for myself.”

She panicked. “Please, my Lady, you don’t have to do this!” she said, grabbing my wrist and slamming the door shut.
