MIGUEL

“I told you I’m fine,” I grumbled, but the words were weak even to my ears as Salvatore tore open the drawer.

He wasn’t listening to me, and I didn’t blame him. The fear I’d seen in his eyes in that warehouse was real.

He grabbed antiseptic, bandages, ointments, and every other thing he needed to treat my cut. His jaw was clenched, his shoulders rigid.

We were finally back at the warehouse, and the men were celebrating their victory, but the bustle outside was barely audible through the thick walls.

My name was on the lips of the men. They were surprised that I did that. Hell, someone even said he was surprised I’d been able to hold a gun properly. What a joke.

He placed the supplies on the desk and turned toward me, the muscle in his jaw twitching. “Sit,” he said. It was a command.

I opened my mouth to argue, but his hand was already on my arm, guiding me toward the bed. His touch was gentle, almost reverent, but I could feel his barely restrained fear.

  • My Stepfather's Deadly Obsession   A perfect future

MIGUELSalvatore’s lips were warm as the kiss turned into a breathless tangle. We stumbled together across the plush carpet of the mansion’s dimly lit living room. The only source of light came from a single lamp in the corner, casting soft, golden shadows that flickered as we moved. “Hmm, that ass.” Salvatore palmed one of my ass cheeks and we laughed between the kiss. I wanted to give a reply but my foot caught the edge of the couch, and we both toppled onto the cushions, landing in a heap.I ended up straddling him, bracing against his chest as we burst out laughing. One of his hands gripped my waist, while his other arm curled behind his head, completely relaxed beneath me.“Careful, baby,” he said, still laughing. “We don’t want you tearing open that bandage.”His eyes locked onto mine and for a moment we just stayed like that, our laughter fading into silence. I could feel his heartbeat beneath my palms. I reached up without thinking and traced his jawline, trying to pick out

  • My Stepfather's Deadly Obsession   Confessions of love

SALVATOREI knew I had to trust Paul’s gut when he said we should follow Miguel. Miguel wouldn’t have agreed to it if I had asked because he’d see it as intrusive, and I didn’t want to take any chances. Watching the unconscious man slumped against the bathroom wall with blood streaking his face, I felt bile rise in my throat. The audacity of this bastard, thinking he could grab Miguel like that like he could just take what he wanted without consequence. The thought made my fists clench.Miguel’s voice cut through the tension again. “I just asked what the hell is going on.”John, Paul, and I turned to him. His eyes were blazing. I stepped forward, keeping my voice calm even though adrenaline was still coursing through me. “Baby, Paul had a bad feeling and said we should check on you. And I’m damn glad we did. That guy was trouble.”Miguel’s jaw tightened. His hands curled into fists at his sides. “I had it under control, Sal. I didn’t need you three crashing in like it was a damn ac

MIGUELA sharp knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. Downstairs, I heard Salvatore’s footsteps and the creak of the front door, followed by the low murmur of voices, which was John’s deep rumble and Paul’s lighter tone. My stomach clenched. The unease I’d swallowed down came back. I exhaled slowly and took quick breaths. Why was I behaving like a kid?Well, it was time to face them.I smoothed down my shirt and headed down the grand staircase, my heart thudding harder with each step. It was Salvatore’s shirt, but it still fit in the right places. I’d worked on my brows and trimmed my hair as best as I could. As I reached the bottom, the conversation in the living room stopped. Three sets of eyes turned toward me. Salvatore, John, and Paul stared at me with their jaws slack as if I’d grown a second head. I paused for a moment, caught off guard by their silence, and finally, a crooked smile tugged at my lips.“What?” I asked, stepping forward. “Have you guys never seen a g

  • My Stepfather's Deadly Obsession   Perfect things don't last

MIGUELThe scent of bacon and coffee drifted upstairs, tugging me gently from sleep. Even before I was fully awake, my stomach rumbled in protest. I blinked into the soft gold of morning light filtering through the mansion’s tall curtains. My body ached in the familiar way of healing, tender but no longer raw. Salvatore’s care had made the difference. Every time I stirred during the night, he’d been there, brushing hair from my eyes and checking my bandages. The cool flooring kissed my feet as I stood. I moved slowly, fighting the stiffness in my side, but it was manageable enough to follow the smell of breakfast. As I descended the staircase, I let myself enjoy the little thrill of peace that settled in my chest. Life with Salvatore had become a quiet miracle. The days were filled with laughter, late-night touches, shared secrets, and meals cooked just for two.But beneath that warmth and excitement was a cold dread. Life was too perfect lately. And perfect things… never lasted.I’

  • My Stepfather's Deadly Obsession   No more losing each other

SALVATOREThe drive back home was quiet. The city lights streaked across the windshield, painting the car in gold and ambers. Miguel sat beside me, his profile lit by the dashboard’s glow, his eyes flicking my way every so often. Each time, he gave me a small smile like he was checking to make sure I was still there. That little argument we had hadn’t changed anything. And I knew that no matter what went wrong in the future, we would talk it through. My hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, my heart thudding with a rhythm I couldn’t quiet. He was safe. That was all that mattered. We pulled into the mansion’s driveway. The front lights bathed the stone path in a soft glow. Miguel climbed out slowly and massaged his side. He didn’t complain, but he moved like he was trying to pretend it didn’t hurt like he didn’t want me worrying.I stayed downstairs for a moment because I had to first get into the kitchen. Since I didn’t want to leave him alone for long, I poured a fresh glass of

  • My Stepfather's Deadly Obsession   He loves you

I stormed out of Salvatore’s office, slamming the door behind me with a thud that echoed through the warehouse. My pulse roared in my ears, and every breath burned hot in my chest. His bitterness was like smoke suffocating me from all corners. Someone cursed over a dropped package, and the heavy bass of machinery thrummed through the concrete, but it all felt distant, muted like I’d been yanked out of sync with the world.I shoved past a couple of workers near the loading bay, not bothering to respond when one called my name. The doors hissed open as I hit the side exit. I didn’t stop. I stalked toward the far end of the gravel lot. I didn’t know where I was going, just that I needed to get the hell away from him, away from that cold stare and the way his body had tensed the second I reached for him.I barely made it ten steps before I heard him behind me.“Miguel, wait!”I didn’t stop until I reached a rusted-out shipping container tucked behind a stack of pallets. There, I turned
