Chapter 7 BREAKFAST WITH THE ENEMY

Author: Rosa_raven
LUNETH

We walk down the stairs and enter a banquet hall. The Moreaux had turned the hall into a dining hall with a long table across and chairs scattered opposite each other. I glance at the seating arrangement, and I feel my stomach tighten; I remember this all too well, the end of that table and everything wrong with it.

We walk to the head where the matarich is seated. "Drexon, you came," the woman said with a smug smile on her face. She beckons to us, and we stand before her. She inspects us like some goods she was about to purchase, and I see the question lingering on her lips even though she seems careful not to say anything. She nods her head without a word and motions that we go to sit. "We can begin breakfast now."

It was then that I realised they had all been waiting for Drexon to show up. Drexon strolls casually to where he was supposed to sit. The seat was clear, and there was no arguing about it. Kellan was seated right next to him, with Kellan's father on the other side of him. I look to the back of the long table where the women sat with the kids, and I no longer want to sit there. I see Melissa already helping Tema and the other women put food on plates.

I knew that if I was supposed to sit according to the structure, I would be sitting beside Tema and Melissa at the end of the table. I stopped behind him because I had no idea what to do. He had not responded to my favour from earlier and had just started walking away. I did not want to act like a clingy child, so I let it go and walked behind him. I know very well that if I do not assert dominance today, I may never be able to do it, and he knows this as well.

"What are you doing there?" Tema asked as she stalked towards me and tried to pull me away. I pray desperately that Drexon will do something and not let her drag me away. He was the only one who could save me.

"Wait, Tema," Drexon's cool voice came through. He turned to Kellan and made a head motion, asking him to get up. My heart beat against my rib cage as I thought about what was going to happen. They were not going to like it, but no one could really question his decisions. It was no secret that the Moreaux family would be bankrupt if not for Drexon, so everyone tried not to get on the wrong side of him.

"Uncle Drexon?" Kellan's voice came out cold and scared. "What is it?" he asked, and Drexon pressed his lips together. He did not look too pleased that he had to explain what was going on to him.

"Get up," he said, and Kellan looked as if he had been asked to commit the gravest sin.

"Why? This is my seat; I have always sat at this part of the table all my life," he said, trying to explain. He knew that Drexon's mind was made up, and his explanations were falling on deaf ears.

It's no longer your seat," Drexon said and let out a sigh. Everyone's eyes were on him, wondering what he was about to do.

"Drexon, what do you mean? Kellan's rightful place is right here beside you," Tema interjects quickly. There was no way she would go down without a fight, especially against injustice done to her son.

"He can no longer sit there," Drexon replied calmly to Tema before facing Kellan again. "You can no longer sit there because my wife has to sit there now."

"What?" The gasp from the table made me feel super special.

"That is nonsense," Andrew Kellan's father said. Drexon's siblings had been quiet through the fiasco from yesterday. They had all kept to themselves, but it seemed like this was the thing that broke the camel's back for them. "Women have never sat at the head of the table since..."

"But Mom sits there." Drexon cut the man off, pointing to the old woman who sat at the head of the table, relaxed, watching the scene unfold before her eyes.

"And that is because she is the head of the family. What does your wife have that would qualify her to sit here?" Andrew shot back at him.

"She has me, and I want her to sit by my side so she shall," Drexon talks back. It seems that this is the most I have ever heard him talk to his family. They all seem worried about how this would unfold. I take in their faces, and I feel a bit bad about what is about to go down, but then I do not care. If I go down, they would all trample on me at the very first chance they get; I would rather stay here and be the bad guy in their eyes.

"Drexon", the old woman called calmly from the table. "She can't sit there," she said as if her words were the law.

"And even more, you can't ask her to take Kellan's place." Drexon pushes the chair he had drawn for himself back into the table and steps back. His hands find mine and hold onto them tightly. His actions catch me slightly off guard, but I ignore the feeling in my stomach and hold my head high.

"Then we shall not be having breakfast here," he announced. "We will go home and have breakfast there; after all, newlywed couples should be allowed privacy for the first few days after they get married," he adds, and I know I am not supposed to, but I can't help the way my mind spins out scenarios to think about.

The table fell silent as Drexon cast an intense look on his mother. There were unspoken words flying around the room and I wished that I could tell what they were. The woman takes a deep breath and pushes herself into an upright position.

"Kellan, get up," she said at once, causing everyone to turn to her with shock written on their faces.

"Mother, you can't allow this; this is wrong," Tema cried, moving to the head of the table.

"I will allow what I want, and this is final," she said without looking at Tema, who was ready to burst. "Kellan, move a seat to the right and everyone move accordingly," she ordered.

Kellan stood up, and without even thinking twice about it, he moved, and I sat down. I was overjoyed, but then I did not allow it to show because this was just the beginning of all I intended to do here. The entire breakfast was quiet until the old woman spoke.

"Kellan and Melissa, Drexon and Luneth, you must go on a honeymoon."

LUNETHTHREE MONTHS LATER"You know, if your dad catches us in here, we are both done for," I murmur to Zayden, and he nods. I look down and continue folding the little baby clothes and putting them in a pile."Are we having a boy or a girl?" I look up at Zayden, who was helping me organise the baby room. He had insisted on coming in here, and I could not stop him. It was amazing to see how much his attitude had changed over the past few months. From first hating the sight of me to turning into a second version of his father."I do not know," I murmur, and when I look up, he is staring at me as if I had committed the gravest crime."You do not know?" he gasped."Yeah," I shrug. I wanted to be surprised, so I would never ask the doctor about the gender; as long as the baby was doing fine, that was okay for me. "The baby is fine, and that's all that matters.""I call dibs on a boy.""You know that even if it's a boy, you would be older than him by a lot." He nods, and I see he has consid

LUNETHFOUR MONTHS LATER"I do not want Drexon to have my head.""Why would he?""Because I am putting you to work while being pregnant?" he asked, and I shook my head."Why wouldn't I want to help?" I ask, and he shrugs. "If I heard that you planned it without my help, I would have been mad.""Then it is a good thing I came to you."Marcus had told me he was ready to get married to Monica, so he wanted to propose, and my role was to make sure it went smoothly. She had become someone so close to me that it felt like something I should be doing. I was so happy for them, and they complemented each other so well; it was as if they were a match made in heaven.Drexon's fussing over me and wanting me to relax all the time had already gotten worse. I had been so sure that it was going to get better, but he was paranoid every second of the day. I did not know why he thought I was going to get hurt, regardless of how normal everything around us seemed to be now."If he...""I will explain to h

LUNETH"What? What?""Oh my goodness!""How is that possible?"Everyone around the table was murmuring so happily. "I knew it," Cindy said with a smile on her face."You knew it? Then why didn't you say anything?""I was not sure, and I did not want you to feel like I was prying in on your life," she added. I was curious as to how she knew. Was it because she was a mom herself? "You were skipping breakfast a lot in the past few days, being picky with your meals, and you began to increase a bit in size..." she trailed off as if she was counting off things I had done to make it more obvious to her."But I still have to say congratulations; that is so wonderful, it calls for a celebration," she said, beaming."Mommy?""Mommy is having a baby," I explain to Aria and watch her face turn into a huge smile, her tooth bared out in happiness. She pointed to my belly and leaned in."Mommy is going to have a sister for me." She was almost too sure that I would have believed it as well."A sister?

  • My Stepsister Stole My Groom   Chapter 189 TABLE OF SURPRISES

LUNETH"It's a special dinner tonight," Lucien announced to the kids when we sat down. Zayden looked more interested than he would have been on a normal day, and Aria's eyes glistened with joy."Are we going to get treats to celebrate?" Aria asked. Like a child, she was always quick to try to get things out of us. It was even worse because we both did not know how to say no to her when she whipped out her charm. I only hoped that she was not going to turn into a spoilt brat in the future."Anything you want, honey," I say as I rub her hair gently. She digs her spoon into the mac and cheese she had requested and pushes it into her mouth, munching ever so happily on it."Can I have a pony and a...""Aria?" Zayden scolded, and she held her hand to her mouth. She turned to me with a smile on her face, and I nodded. Ready to hear all of her demands. With Maljore and Rose in jail and the pregnancy over, I was so overjoyed that if she had asked me to get on the table and dance, I would have d

  • My Stepsister Stole My Groom   Chapter 188 TWENTY YEARS IN

LUNETH"I leave you alone for one minute, and you make headlines surpassing my name." I roll my eyes over the phone. I did not expect that people were going to take a video from outside the courthouse and run with it.His call was surprising because he had left earlier because of a meeting he could not cancel. I thought he was supposed to be in the meeting. I was still on my way home when the news broke out with the video of me and Lucy's mom. It was not like we were fighting, but people seemed to like the details of the gist. Of course, everyone with a sane brain could hear that she was in the wrong, but there were still people who thought I was being cruel for sending my best friend to jail."I had been worried that people were going to talk about you all week; I guess it is a good thing that my name popped." I did not mean that. I hated seeing my name in the news, but at least people weren't calling me weak like they were to Drexon."Oh, really? Are you saying you did this on purpos

  • My Stepsister Stole My Groom   Chapter 187 A CURSE IN DISGUISE

LUNETHAs Drexon had said, he was going to quicken the process of the court hearings because he did not want me to be out there while having to force myself to sit through the long proceedings. We had been going to court almost every day, and it was quite exhausting."Do you really have to go?" Drexon asked, worried that I was putting strain on myself."If I don't go, then everyone would be concerned why I wasn't there," I told him, and he nodded."Sure, we have to keep it a secret."Maljore was already guilty of every crime that was being brought up about her. Today Lucy was standing trial, and I could not wait to see what was going to happen."Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?" the court clerk asked. Lucy took the sand. I sat still in my seat. When I had been woken again, this was not what I thought of as revenge against Lucy.I was going to destroy her life the way she destroyed mine, but she did not need me to do that for her; she seemed to be able to do tha
