Chapter 4

The handsome stranger got confused when he saw me freeze. He asked if I still wanted to use the elevator. I snapped out of whatever I was in and answered to him “Yes.” He gently stepped aside so I can get in. And so I did.

Going up I still feel nervous. My heart was beating even faster as I go one more floor up. I was so nervous; my hands were shaking the little note book. Seeing how nervous I was, the handsome stranger asked me “Big day today?”

“Ya, it’s actually my first day.” I answered to him.

Just then the elevator started to make a weird sound. We got confused.  And then it stopped moving. It got completely stuck. Now this is when I started to freak out. I looked at my watch and my meeting starts in twenty minutes. “Oh; my God.” I cried out.

I might have not mentioned before but I am not really good with small places. And right now I feel like I am trapped and my lungs are getting smaller and smaller by every breath I take. I fail down to the floor; I can feel my blood boiling. Then I hear his voice.

“Come down!” he said. He tried to ease the moment. And he did a good job. I mean granted, I don’t really remember what he said to me because I was in shock but he did make me feel better. After I caught a breath I stood up and thanked him.

“No problem. I’m Shawn by the way.” the handsome man introduced himself and threw his hand towards me for a shake.

“Princi, Princi Jona.” I introduced myself as well and shook his hand.

“Oh, you are the one who got the job at the high management department.” he started a conversation.

“Yap, that’s me. But what is the use; I’m to get fired anyway.” I complained

“Why?” he asked confused. I answered after a big sigh “Like I said earlier it is my first day; and I am already late for my first meeting. So my boss is probably going to fire me.”

“No…”

I interrupted him and screamed “Yes. I mean I don’t even know who he is…”

He interrupted me “You don’t know who the boss is?”

“Yes; Why? Is he really mean or something?” I asked hopping for a positive answer. And his answer did make me feel better again. He said “Don’t worry newbie. The boss is really cool and handsome and kind and really understanding. Plus I am very sure the boss is going to be late too.”

“How do you know he is going to be late?” I stopped panicking and asked a question out of curiosity.

He hesitated a bit and then he answered. “Well I know him like I am him. _ I looked at him confused so he changed his answer._ I mean I have known him for a long time. So don’t worry.”

I felt relive through Shawn’s words. Thirty minutes passed by since we have been stuck in the elevator and both of us got bored so we decided to play a game. We couldn’t get service so we kept it simple and played ‘Rock, paper, scissor.’ and whoever loses gets smacked on the hand. You would think that it was a fifty-fifty game but he was so terrible at it. It was like his hands were unable to fold in to rock or scissor. All he played was paper and so I kept throwing scissor. I smacked him so hard so many times his hand turned red, like blood red. We played for ten minutes and he chose to yield. So we started to talk. Rubbing his red burning hands he said “So why did you come here?”

“My last job sucked and this seems to be a great place to state over. So…” I answered to him.

“What was wrong with your last job?” he asked another question. And so I answered.

“It was my boss. I was his assistant and all I ever did was going across town to get him his favorite cappuccino coffee.”

“Isn’t that your job though?” he asked again.

“Yes, that was part of my job but I never used my computer. I was supposed to take care of his schedule but he wouldn’t allow me. It was as if he was a spy on a very important mission and he kept disappearing. And every time he misses a big meeting everybody blames me saying that I didn’t fix his schedule and made him late on purpose. And every time I think I am going to do real work he calls me in his office and asks for his stupid cup of cappuccino. So why in hell would I keep working there?” I screamed.

“Come down!” he said. “I am sure you are going to love it here.” he smiled big with his sea blue eyes.

I don’t really know what was happening at that moment but both of us stared at each other for like a whole minute and we both looked away. To break the tension that came out of nowhere, he suggested having a rematch.

We did and he kept losing. But then finally he figured out that all he was playing was paper and I scissor so he changed in to rock. He celebrated because he won. While he was getting ready to get his revenge the elevator door opened. I immediately jumped up to avoid a smack and ran out with my little note book. He followed me and screamed from a distance “This is not over!” and my response was a sarcastic “Yes it is!”

We smiled at each other as if we knew one another for a very long time even though we just met. I waved at him and went looking for my office and I found it with no trouble. It was a big office with two desks. I went in and sat on the empty one. Just when I was about to get comfortable I remembered that I was supposed to be in a meeting. I started to panic again. Yes, I panic a lot. Just then a happy looking guy walked in.

“You must be Princi.” he said in a cheerful way after seeing me. I just stared at him confused.

“I am Oliver Michel and you are my new partner.” he said.

“Oh; hi. _I shook his hand._ Wait is the meeting already over?” I asked him.

  “No. It didn’t ever start.”

“Why?” I asked again.

“The boss hasn’t arrived yet….” while he was talking a woman ran in to the office and said “Oliver the boss is here. Meeting starts in ten minutes.” and she ran out.

“Wow, you are really lucky. Mr. Davis isn’t usually late. Since it’s your first day all you have to do is absorb.”

“Ok, is that it?” I asked.

“Yes, for today.”

On our way to the bosses office Oliver started a conversation.

“So how come you’re late on your first day?”

“I wasn’t late. I arrived early but I got stuck in the elevator.” I tried to explain.

“Oh, yap. The one bad thing about this place is the elevator. It stops when it feels like it. Sometimes it goes up and down by its self.” his voice sounded sarcastic but his eyes were serious.

“That is really dangerous.” I complained.

“Again yap. Wait so you were stuck in there all by yourself?”

“No. There was a guy with me in there. And it wasn’t that bad. We played a game; he kept losing and so got smacked several times.” I answered to him.

“Wow, I will say it again; you are lucky. Once I got stuck in there for two hours all on my own. It was like the world had casted me away. But I got two weeks off to collect my head because of it and it was the best two weeks I have ever had.” both of us laughed at his story and we arrived at the office. I walked in and the boss’s seat was empty. I sat down next to Oliver.

The handsome sea blue eyed Shawn walked in to the room. We looked at each other and smiled without anyone knowing. I waited to watch where he would sit but he just kept walking and he sat in the boss’s seat. I got confused. I leaned towards Oliver and asked “Why is Shawn sitting on the boss’s seat?”

Oliver looked at me and answered “Because it’s his seat.” I was still confused. “What?” I asked.

Oliver whispered his answer “He is sitting there because he is the boss.”
