Camile's POV
Standing right by the window, I looked outside at the world I felt like I was no longer a part of.
I was in a different place, a world that was different from everything that I had known my whole life, and somehow, it felt familiar to me for some reason.
It did not make sense, but after what happened to me a few days ago, I had stopped looking for things to make sense.
A sharp pain jolted through my heart as I was reminded once again of how I was betrayed, humiliated and cast aside by Trevor and his new.....mate Vanessa.
Just thinking about both of them building a life together with their child was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I hated it ...I hated it so much!
If it wasn't for Vance, would I still even be alive?
However, even though he had saved me, I could not bring myself to feel a shred of appreciation for him.
Vance's castle was the last place I wanted to be at!
I looked outside the window once again, and I could not help but be blown away by the sheer magnificence of the castle.
Everything looked....elegant, fortified, intimidating.
Vance's castle and pack were not open to the public, and everyone was curious about what it looked like.
I was convinced that they would fall at their feet once they came face to face with this magnificence.
I watched as guards went back and forth, patrolling the grounds of the castle.
They had been doing that ever since I arrived here, guarding the pack and protecting it from any intruders, although I doubted that there was any alpha who would be dumb enough to attack Vance.
My thoughts were interrupted by a sharp knock on the door just then.
I frowned, unwilling to meet with anyone.
However, whoever was at the door was quite persistent.
Against my wishes, I walked over to the door and yanked it open.
"What do you want?" I snapped at the person on the other side of the door.
It was a maid, and she quickly lowered her head when her gaze met mine.
Scoffing to myself, I wondered what was the use of pretending to be scared of me.
Vanessa had acted the same way, and yet she had gone behind my back and gotten pregnant with Trevor's child!
"What do you want?" I repeated, not wanting to waste any more time on her.
The maid stepped aside and pushed a tray behind her towards me.
"The..... Alpha....he said to bring you dinner ...he said that you need to eat...." The maid told me.
I sighed I had almost forgotten that I had to eat.
Taking a step back, I thought of something just then.
"Where is he?" I asked, going straight to the point.
"Excuse me? The alpha..."
"I'm asking you where your Alpha is. I want to talk to him," I demanded.
My eyes zeroed in on the maid as I said this.
For a second, I thought she was going to refuse me, but she lowered her head once again.
"He's....he's in the study.....he asked none of us to bother to him but ..."
I pushed the maid out of the way, refusing to acknowledge her words about Vance not wanting any disturbance.
I had barley taken a few steps when I stopped and turned to look at the maid, a frustrated look on my face.
"Where is the damn study?"
......
Vance's voices filtered into my ears as I pushed open the door of the study open slightly.
"No, I am not sending her away ! Do you think that she will survive on her own out there? Trevor is currently looking for her! If I send her away, it's only a matter of time before he finds her. We will be back to square one then!"
Squinting my eyes, I tried to figure out what Vance's words meant.
Was there any other reason why he had saved me. "But, Alpha....if she remains here....Trevor might trace her here. The pack has been closed to outsiders for a long time. If Trevor tries to use this opportunity to come in then...."
"Don't worry about that. Trevor is not stupid and he will not do something as dumb as pushing his way in here. Anyway, I still need Camille here. There's no way I am going to send her away!" He stated firmly.
"Oh really? Do you mind me asking what you need me for?" I asked, interrupting their conversation just then.
Both men turned to look at me, and while Vance had shock on his face, the other looked at me with a hint of hostility.
It was only for a split second, but I saw it well.
"Camile...what are you doing here? How much did you hear?" Vance asked me, trying to act unbothered.
"Is that the issue here?" I snorted at him.
Vance looked at the other man and he walked away after a nod.
"Camille ..." Vance called my name, and he tried to reach out a hand to me, but I took two steps away from him, hostility showing on my face.
I did not trust this man, I would never trust this devil!
Trevor might have hurt and betrayed me, but there was no one more scary than this person in front of me!
"You know what? I don't even want to know why I am here," I said, shaking my head.
What was the point?
Vance was a dangerous man and I wanted nothing to do with him!
"I just want to leave!" I stated.
"And where do you think you are going to go?" Vance sneered at me.
His obvious mockery cut deep into me, but I looked away, unfazed.
"It's none of your business. You need to take me back immediaely! I am going to take revenge on the people who hurt me, I don't need you or..."
"Trevor tried to kill you, Camille," Vance dropped the bombshell.
I turned to look at him slowly.
"What?"
My face went pale immediately, I knew that he had betrayed me with Vanessa, but killing me ....
I felt like throwing up. Did I even know the man I was with for so long?
Vance sighed, his gaze zeroing in on me.
"I am trying to protect you, if it weren't for me, you would have died a few days ago! You want to take revenge, fine! Do just that! But do you really think you will be able to do anything in the state you're in?! Don't be naive!”
VANCEI kicked the man in the stomach and he rolled over on the ground, in pain. Before he could escape, I placed my feet on his chest, and I took the list from him. "Give it to me! You're not qualified to touch that!" The man screamed at me. I signalled at one of the guards with me and he promptly held down the man. "Is it that Trevor is unafraid of death? You are all unafraid of death? He actually sent you, a scout, to our border, to check what we are up to?" I asked the man , a sneer on my face. He was one of Trevor's scouts that we had caught near our border, and this time, I was able to catch him before he killed himself. "Hmph! Do you think you are impressive just because you caught me?" He sneered at me. I scoffed, not wanting to waste my time on him. The only reason he was still alive and running his mouth was because of the list I had on him. "What list is this?" I asked the man, as I opened it. "It's a list of all of the people who deserve to die! The people who hav
CAMILE My eyes snapped open at once, and it was like they had never been closed in the first place. I looked around me, and I instantly realized that I was not in the bedroom that I had grown used to over the last couple of weeks. However, I was still in the castle; the lush gardens just outside the window reminded me of that. "You are awake," I heard, and turned sharply. A smiling old man dressed in white was looking at me, a knowing look on his face. Judging by how I had passed out, I had a good guess who this person was. "You are the healer?" I asked him. The healer nodded his head, and he took my hand. "Your pulse is normal," he noted. However, just then, I felt a sharp pain in my head, and the same voice that I had heard before I had passed out sounded in my head again. "It's not just you anymore," I was even more bewildered. What did this mean?"Your pulse is fine, however, your body has been restless ever since you passed out," the healer said, still holding on to my
VANCECamile had a shocked look on her face as we walked out of the dungeon, and I felt hesitant to ask her what was going on The traitor had accused her of defecting and being crazy ...and I really could not understand what those words meant. It didn't make much sense to me at all. "Camile ...what was the meaning of that?" Finally, Brandon was the one who asked the question I had on my mind. Camile turned to me, a pale look on her face. She seemed really worried about something, and this was the first time I had seen her like this ever since all of this started. Camile always seemed to be so in control of her emotions, thinking before acting, but this time, she seemed pretty shaken by what the traitor had said. "Camile?" I called her name. ."Trevor....he is spreading lies about me ...no, he has been spreading lies about me ....ever since you kidnapped me years ago...." Camile said, shaking her head. I hung my head in shame when she brought up how I kidnapped her years ago. I
CAMILE I had no idea how much time had passed, but Vance and I sat in his study, each lost in our own thoughts. Vance had sent Brandon to investigate, and I was not willing to leave till I got the result of the investigation. If Trevor sent that symbol to me, then it just meant that the spy in this pack was someone that held a high rank in Trevor's army. It wasn't something like Gretchen, who could be abandoned once she was no longer useful. Finally, Brandon arrived, a bitter look on his face. He glanced at me, for only a split second, before he started reporting to Vance. Brandon whispered something to him, and I rolled my eyes. After everything that I had done and was still doing, these people were still guarded against me. Did I need to give my life for them to know that I was serious about helping them fight Trevor?Vance nodded his head at Brandon, and then he looked at me. "Brandon says that one of the guards was seen meeting with someone by the river. However, this isn
CAMILE Brandon was waiting for me as soon as I walked out of the training grounds; there was a cold look on his face as he peeked into the room. Brandon looked back at me a few seconds later, a new appreciation in his eyes, and I smiled. I was sure that, just like everyone else, he thought that I wouldn't be able to handle those men. "What? Did you think that they were going to overpower me?" I asked him, a smile on my face. "Those men have a strong sense of pride. They definitely wouldn't have liked listening to a woman from a rival pack....how did you do it?" Brandon asked me, a hint of suspicion in his tone. I shook my head, realizing that no matter what I did, his guard would always be up around me. "It's no big deal; I just let them see what's important. Besides, I have been dealing with tough men like them for a long time. They definitely wouldn't be able to overpower me," I said Brandon gave it up when he saw that he was not going to get anything out of me. "The Alpha
CAMILE. "What? Are we expected to accept it just because the alpha said so?" One of the elders raged. "Yes, we still don't trust this woman. No matter what, we can't leave the survival of our pack up to her. I am personally not going to stand for it!" Another voice added. I was starting to get a headache. Did these old men really have to be so difficult? What was the point of making things hard on themselves and everyone else? "I don't..... I don't think it's such a bad idea to have her do this....Camile recently found a spy that is working for Trevor. It's a maid who has been in the castle for a long time. If it wasn't for her...well, we don't know how long we'd have let her be without knowing who she was," one of the guards spoke up. "Yes...last night when she asked me to go after the intruder...I was shocked at first, but then I realized that there was indeed an intruder in the castle ...how many times has someone sneaked into the castle without us knowing about it? We need to
