Chapter 16: The Training

Two days later, the boredom was starting to kill me faster than any assassin could.

"I feel useless," I complained, watching Killian go through a stack of documents at the breakfast table. "I just sit here, eat, sleep, and wait for the next disaster. I'm a sitting duck, Killian."

Killian didn't look up, but his pen stopped moving. "You are carrying two royal heirs. Your job is to sit there and grow them."

"I hate it," I said, standing up. "If Chloe or anyone else comes at me again... I don't want to just rely on luck or a locked door. I want to know how to fight back."

Killian finally looked up. His blue eyes assessed me, sweeping over my frame. He seemed to be weighing the risk against my stubbornness.

Finally, he stood up.

"Fine," he said, tossing the pen down. "Go put on some leggings. Meet me in the gym downstairs in ten minutes."

The gym in the Forbidden Wing was just like the rest of the house—state-of-the-art and intimidating.

Killian was already there, wrapping his hands in black tape. He had shed his usual suit for a grey tank top that clung to his sweat-dampened skin, exposing the full glory of his tattooed arms.

I swallowed hard. Focusing was going to be a problem.

"You can't out-muscle a wolf," Killian said bluntly, turning to face me. "Especially not in your condition. If an Alpha attacks you, you have exactly three seconds to end it before he overpowers you."

He walked over to me, his presence looming large.

"So, we don't fight fair," he murmured. "We fight dirty."

"Dirty. Got it," I nodded.

"Stand here," he commanded.

He moved behind me. His large hands landed on my hips, adjusting my stance. His chest pressed against my back, his heat radiating through my thin shirt.

"Widen your legs," he whispered against my ear. "Lower your center of gravity. You are small, Elena. Use that. If you are low, you are harder to throw."

I tried to focus on my feet, but having the Alpha King practically wrapping himself around me was... distracting.

"Now," he said, one hand sliding down to guide my arm. "If someone grabs you from behind—like this—"

He wrapped a muscular arm around my neck. It was gentle, a mock hold, but the threat was implied.

"Don't pull away," he instructed. "Drop your weight. And drive your elbow back. Hard."

He tapped his own ribs to show the target.

"Here. The floating ribs. If you hit it right, you'll crack bone. It will give you enough time to run."

"Okay," I breathed.

"Try it."

He tightened his grip slightly. I dropped my weight just like he showed me and slammed my elbow back.

Thud.

It hit his solid muscle with a dull sound. It probably felt like a mosquito bite to him.

"Again," Killian growled, his voice vibrating against my spine. "Harder. Imagine it's Liam. Imagine it's Chloe trying to hurt the pups."

The anger flared instantly.

BAM.

I drove my elbow back with everything I had. This time, Killian actually grunted.

"Good," he praised, loosening his grip. He spun me around so I was facing him. His hands slid up my arms, resting on my shoulders.

"You have fire in you, Elena," he said, his eyes searching mine. "Most omegas would freeze. You fight."

"I have to," I whispered, breathless. "For them."

Killian’s gaze dropped to my lips. The air in the gym grew heavy, charged with static electricity. He took a half-step closer, eliminating the space between us.

Suddenly, a sharp, burning sensation spread across my chest.

"Ouch!" I gasped, clapping a hand over the silver necklace.

Killian pulled back instantly, his eyes narrowing. "The Moonstone?"

I pulled the pendant out. The blue stone was glowing faintly, warm to the touch.

"It burned me," I said, confused. "Is... is there danger?"

Killian scanned the room, his nostrils flaring as he scented the air. He checked the monitors on the wall. Nothing. The perimeter was secure.

He looked back at me, and his expression shifted from alert to something unreadable.

"No danger," he said slowly. He reached out, his finger brushing the glowing stone. "The stone reacts to high heart rates and intense surges of adrenaline or emotion."

He looked deep into my eyes.

"It wasn't warning you of an attack, Elena."

My face flushed as I realized what he meant.

It wasn't fear that had made my heart race just now. It was him. It was the way he looked at me.

Killian smirked, that arrogant, knowing smirk returning.

"Let's take a break," he said, grabbing a towel and wiping his face. "Before you set the whole gym on fire with that blush."

I glared at his back, clutching the warm stone.

Stupid magical necklace, I thought. Traitor.

The journey back to the Blackwood territories should have been a victory march. We had the cure. We had survived the fall of a god. But as we reached the iron gates of our home, the air didn't smell like pine and safety. It smelled like betrayal and silver-smoke.The grand banners of the Blackwood Pack—the silver wolf on a field of midnight—had been torn down. In their place hung the cold, sterile flag of the Lycan Council."Silas," Killian growled, his hand gripping the steering wheel of the rugged SUV so hard the leather cracked. His body was still covered in bandages from the Solar Spire, but his eyes were burning with a lethal, golden hunger."They moved fast," Mord whispered from the backseat, his hand resting on his rusted blade. "They didn't wait for the news of Solas’s survival. They assumed you died in the collapse and declared the Forbidden Wing an 'unstable zone'."We rounded the final bend, and the palace came into view. It was surrounded. Hundreds of Council Enforcers in

Solas stood amidst the burning wreckage, the Tear of the Sun pulsing in his hand like a dying heart. The sheer intensity of the light began to melt the stones beneath his feet, turning the ruins into a lake of liquid gold."I am the Sun!" Solas screamed, his voice a distorted, metallic screech. "And you... you are nothing but a stain on my world!"He leveled the crystal at me, and a beam of pure, white-hot divinity erupted. It was enough to vaporize a city."Elena!" Killian roared, launching himself forward to take the blow. But I didn't move. I didn't hide.I stepped into the light. As the beam hit my chest, the Mark of the Devourer didn't burn. It opened. My skin didn't char; it turned into a swirling vortex of violet-black smoke. I felt the agonizing heat enter my veins, but instead of destroying me, it found a bottomless hunger waiting for it.I wasn't just holding the light. I was drinking it."Impossible!" Solas’s remaining eye widened in horror. "That is the fire of creation! Y

The world didn't end with a bang; it ended with the suffocating silence of falling ash.The Golden Spire, once a needle of light piercing the heavens, was now a jagged mountain of broken glass and twisted metal strewn across the Forbidden Peak. The air was thick with the smell of scorched stone and the fading hum of dying magic.Killian Blackwood clawed his way out of a pile of white-gold rubble. His tunic was gone, his chest covered in a map of bleeding shadow-scars and burns. He didn't feel the pain. His Alpha heart was beating with a single, frantic rhythm: Find them. Find them. Find them."ELENA!" he roared, the sound tearing through the settling dust. "LUCIAN! NYX!"Silence."If you have taken them from me," Killian whispered to the ruins, his claws extending until they cracked the stone beneath his hands, "I will not just kill you, Solas. I will erase your entire lineage from history."A faint, violet shimmer caught his eye near the tilted base of the central tower. It wasn't th

  • My Sweetest Revenge: Sleeping with the Alpha King   Chapter 54: The Fall of the Golden Spire

The air inside the Void-Chamber was thick with the scent of ozone and ancient, stagnant magic. Solas, the Solar King, stood before the massive vortex of solidified darkness, his white-gold armor reflecting the unnatural swirl of the abyss. He looked like a god, but his eyes—wide and hungry—betrayed the dying mortal underneath."Open it, child," Solas commanded, his voice vibrating with a terrifying desperation. He shoved Lucian toward the swirling vortex. "Your light is the key. Pierce the veil, and I will make you a prince of a world that never knows night. You will be more than a Blackwood; you will be the Sun itself."Lucian stood before the wall of absolute shadow. He looked so small in that cavernous room, his tiny hands trembling. The heat from the Spire's core was making his golden hair damp with sweat. He looked back at Solas, then closed his eyes, searching for that one thread of warmth that never failed him.“Now, Lionheart!” Killian’s voice erupted in his mind, a primal roa

"You look surprised, Elena," my sister purred, swirling a cup of golden liquid that smelled of honey and sunlight. "Did you think the Great King Solas was a saint? Did you think he built this empire of light on prayers and sunshine?"I gripped the edges of the golden divan, my breath coming in shallow rasps. "He hates shadows. He called me an abomination. Why are you here?""Because Solas is a hypocrite," she laughed, her green eyes flashing. "He is dying, Elena. Just like you. The pure light he commands is eating him alive. He needs the Tear of the Sun to stabilize his own power, just as you need it to save your humanity."My heart skipped a beat. "He can't find it himself?""The crystal is hidden in the Void-Chamber, a place where light cannot enter. He needs a Vessel. He needs someone who can touch the shadows without being consumed instantly. He needs... us.""He’s using you," I spat."We are using each other," she corrected, standing up and walking toward the glass wall. "He give

The air crackled with the sound of burning ozone as more Sun Guards descended, their light-discs illuminating the canyon like a dozen miniature suns.Killian stood over the fallen guard, his claws dripping with a mixture of blood and molten brass. His golden eyes were fixed on the ridge above, where a single, blinding figure stood, radiating a heat that made the very air tremble."Enough!" a voice boomed—not with vocal cords, but with the resonance of a thousand trumpets. The guards immediately froze, dropping to one knee. The figure descended slowly.
