Chapter 30 – Confrontation, Confirmation

last update Last Updated: 2025-08-18 10:48:56

When I woke up the next day, I felt a heavy arm wrapped around my waist and last night’s events came back in a flash. After waking up in my dream, I heard Steffan checking up on me and I asked him to accompany me through the night until I fall back to sleep.

I tried to lift his hand without disturbing him but he decided to pull me closer while he’s still asleep.

“Let’s get married, Colette,” he suddenly whispered before opening his eyes.

I know it sounds so random as if we’re just choosing between scrambled or sunny side up on our eggs for breakfast. But there’s sincerity in his tone and I know that if I said yes, we would be heading to the city hall immediately to register our marriage.

I turned around to face him, searching for the right words to say, but I ended up tracing the outline of his beautiful face. Tempted to say yes, if it means I get to see it every waking day. But I need to find my voice of reason because it’s easy to get lost in this intoxicating situation.

After Colette left Alex’s office, I casually slipped out of his breakroom followed by Twig. I didn’t expect Colette to go straight to Alex to complain about the lunch thief but I felt warm inside hearing her standing up for me. But of course, I cannot show any of that to Alex nor to Twig. So, I maintained my stoic expression unbothered by the disruption of our meeting. “Where were we?” I asked Twig on why she suddenly requested for a meeting. “I met a prospective mark overseas when I was serenading the crown prince. He’s pursuing me and wanted to gift me a golden limousine,” Twig gave a background. “I’m thinking with your permission, of course, to use the limo as a mule,” she a

When Steffan came back that night, I was hoping we could resume our conversation. I don’t want to sweep it under the rug and we need to settle our relationship just so we are on the same page. However, he just acted like it was nothing. So, we continued with our lives, working in the morning and doing our own thing at night. But when he complained about his lunch one day, I volunteered to pack his lunch for him. As a peace offering. The first few days, he would come home with an empty lunch container and I felt like a proud mother whose son ate all the fruits and veggies for the day. But one day, he came home without his lunch container.“I forgot. I was so busy I left it on my locker,” he said. The next day I asked again and he said the same thing. Until the third day.“This is the third time Steffan, we’re running out of containers,” I complained but instead of replying he just hugged me from behind.

“What’s that?” Steffan curiously asked when I almost jumped in surprise.“Nothing,” I said as I quickly opened his email. But there’s no other content in the email. Just a flirty, eye-catching subject and a drone. The drone? The one I won yesterday as a bribe from the military? How did he put a memory card in it? Maybe ‘how’ is immaterial, but when? I have a lot of questions but first things first, I need to check if my drone really has a memory card in it.“Steffan, did someone dropped by this afternoon while I was out?” I asked when I found a memory card in the drone just like how Ace mentioned it.“No. I was alone the whole time expect for the delivery girl when I asked Officer Johnny to send us food,” he recalled.“Did you let her in?”“No, I asked her to leave the food outside. Is something wrong?” he asked with worry.I knew it was a memory card from Ace because it’s an old memory card with a small capacity. I could feel my hands shaking and heart pounding as I insert the card i

“What are you doing here?” Dean asked as I continue to walk in his living room. I took out my phone to record his response as I planned on interrogating him when I heard a familiar voice coming from the bedroom.“Yoohoo, where is my baby Dean. Is it hide and seek time, my baby?” the ‘gu-gu-ga-ga’ voice said while a pink feather boa slowly appeared from the hallway. Twirling, teasing, before the body in a see-through pink lace lingerie appeared.Blaarrhhhh!I don’t know which one should I pity more, my eyes or my phone’s camera. I was too stunned to stop recording and it captured all the pink-kink between them. When my previous editor, Ara, saw me with my phone out, she flew into a rage and dashed towards me to grab my phone. But before she could reach me, I threatened her to post it to social media and that immediately calmed her down.“Colette, I know you hate me. But we can talk about it, right? Do you want to come back? I will sign you right here and now. Do you want to continue th

Arranging for Colette’s affairs have taken much of my morning and when I reached our apartment, it was almost noon. I was expecting her fuming at home because of the bad reviews but I found the living room dark with the blackout curtains drawn.I let the door open allowing the natural light to seep inside but the image that greeted me etched deep in my soul. I found her lying on the couch, letting out soft sobs, too tired to even move. I have heard screams of anger, or cries of anguish but nothing could prepare me to hear her soft sobs of surrender. That and the pill bottles on the centre table answered my question before. How could she grow up fine after surviving everything she experienced? And the answer is staring at me right in the face. In the form of orange bottles.“Hey,” she greeted weakly as she tries to hide the bottles in a bag.I sat beside her not saying a word just observing what she’s doing. Just as she finished packing, I pulled her weightless body and sat her on my l
