Chapter 2

Author: Brulee Bake
As I gradually pulled away from my reverie, I raised my gaze and looked at the orderly rows of disciples standing in the great hall. The corners of my lips lifted into a subtle smile.

This was great.

Right away, I recognized the familiar figure among the disciples.

Since fate had given me another chance, I intended to make the most of it. This time, I wanted to see what kind of path Aria would walk after choosing the mentor she had always yearned for.

Kalix was seated beside me, watching me make my choice with a smile.

From the very beginning, he had always enjoyed competing with me for everything. I had simply never cared enough to reciprocate his provocation. Little did I know that he would go on to commit such a grave wrong.

My eyes fell on the scruffy fox who was only mediocre in terms of talent among the disciples.

It was Aria, my disciple from my previous life.

Back then, I had thought she was a quiet, well-behaved child. Compared with the other disciples, she had seemed timid and somewhat cowardly, which stirred my sympathy and made me want to give her a helping hand.

Because of that, I had overlooked the disciple standing beside her, who possessed the greatest natural talent of them all. Later, I discovered that she had the most steadfast heart and was the most devoted to walking the righteous path. So, I gave her a little guidance.

When my soul had wandered the realms after my death, I had watched her refuse to believe the lies Aria spread about me. She had traveled from place to place, trying to clear my name and telling everyone that I was the person she respected most.

I knew that if I chose her now, Kalix would inevitably compete with me for her again. So, just as I had done in my previous life, I raised my hand and pointed toward Aria, who was just a scruffy little fox at the moment.

"You, little fox. Would you like to become my disciple?"

The scene from my previous life replayed before my eyes, and I still couldn't suppress the sorrow rising in my heart.

I wasn't made of stone, after all. How could I feel nothing? The disciple I had trusted and cherished most had eventually killed me with her own hands.

Kalix's eyes shifted.

Just as he had in my previous life, he spoke first. "What a coincidence, Caelus. I happened to take a liking to her as well. But since she's the one you favor…"

Before he could finish, Aria suddenly dropped to her knees.

To my surprise, she said, "Lord Kalix, please take me in. I came here today for the sole purpose of becoming your disciple. I only wish for you to serve as my mentor."

A collective gasp swept through the hall. No one had expected Aria to reject me, one of the most powerful immortals in the realm, and choose Kalix instead.

I froze for a moment as I looked at her. Then, I understood everything.

Her eyes were filled with excitement, and she was desperately trying to seize this opportunity. She was nothing like the timid, submissive girl I had known in my previous life.

This could only mean that she had been granted a second shot at life, too.

It seemed I didn't even need to deliberately push events in a different direction this time. She would go down that path all on her own.

I ran my fingers over the gift I prepared for my new disciple.

Before Kalix could say another word, I said casually, "Well, it seems Kalix wants you too. I never force anyone to do something against their wishes. From now on, you'll be his disciple."

Then, I stepped down from the platform. I walked over to the disciple standing beside Aria and handed her my gift.

I asked, "What is your name? Would you like to become my disciple?"

The young lady I spoke to stared at me in shock. In the next moment, her face lit up with joy as she curtsied respectfully.

She replied, "My name is Rhea Claude! I'd be honored to become your disciple! Thank you, Lord Caelus!"

Her excitement amused me, and my mood improved considerably. Kalix and Aria, however, stared at me with probing expressions.

Aria was shocked. She had never expected me to give up on choosing her as my disciple so easily. Even so, that surprise quickly faded from her mind.

After all, she had already gotten the mentor she had always wanted.

I walked over to Aria and conjured a water mirror, forcing her to see her current appearance."Ah!" The moment Aria saw her reflection, she let out a hysterical scream. She covered her remaining eye and frantically waved her hands, as though she could make the water mirror dissipate. But no matter which way she turned, the mirror followed her, reflecting her face without fail. She screamed, "I don't want to look! That's not me! It's not me! Go away!"When she saw me standing behind her, she immediately scrambled toward me on her hands and knees. She basically prostrated herself before me.Aria wailed, "Cae… No, I mean… Lord Caelus, please save me! Please, you have to save me! My face… What's happening to my face?"I slowly crouched and stared at her coldly. "Didn't you ask for the Etheria Pill yourself? Don't you know what it does? The pill repeatedly purges impurities from your body, causing your skin to peel away before regenerating over and over again."Aria's eyes widened.

I stepped forward and gently raised my hand. The chains around Kalix's body slowly tightened.Calmly, I said, "I never wanted to compete with you. As for Aria, I never intended to pick her this time. The disciple I wanted from the very beginning was Rhea."Kalix's eyes instantly widened. The one thing he had been clinging to as a weapon against me had just been shattered."You lied to me. So you deliberately chose that woman from the beginning…"His words came out almost as a statement of fact, and panic flickered across his face.Suddenly, his sinister gaze turned vicious. Then, he started laughing. He looked at me, but his words were directed at Aria.He hissed, "Since you're so hopelessly devoted to me, I'll grant you a reward. You'll stay with me."He broke free of the chains and grabbed Aria, who was standing closest to him. A surge of energy erupted around him as a dark, blood-red mist spread through the air."Everyone, get back! He's going to blow himself up and take eve

When I spoke again, my voice echoed across the entire mountain. "That is the first accusation. As a mentor, Kalix couldn't keep his own desires in check. He preyed on his female disciples and disgraced the very position he held. Secondly…"The scene inside the underground chamber Kalix had secretly built appeared before everyone. It was filled with the bones of women and infants. Many of the bones were twisted and shattered, making it obvious that their owners had been tortured to death.Graphic murals were painted across the walls, along with various torture devices scattered haphazardly throughout the chamber. Many of them were still stained with blood.I continued, "Kalix had this underground chamber built in secret to practice forbidden magic while taking pleasure in torturing others. He used talented women as vessels and their unborn children as mediums to draw their power into his own body."As my voice rang out again, everyone watching gasped incredulously. What kind of mon

By the time Aria regained consciousness, I had made everything public and decided to execute Kalix in front of the entire realm.I brought Aria to the execution platform.People from all Three Realms had already filled the seats surrounding the platform, waiting to witness the execution. Behind us, a massive magical projection displayed the proceedings live for everyone to see.Aria glared at me and snarled, "Lord Caelus, what trick are you pulling now? How much longer are you going to keep plotting against Lord Kalix and me?"She still had it in her mind that Kalix had been trying to take her away that day, only for me to stop him.I ignored the hatred in her eyes and waved my hand. The magical projection displayed footage of what had happened that day.I said, "To give everyone a clear picture of what had transpired, I will present all the evidence and execute the guilty party publicly. Here is the first piece of evidence."The projection showed Aria running toward Kalix, desp

In my previous life, I had reacted quickly after sensing something was wrong. I had quietly minimized the negativity arising out of Kalix's abhorrent act. Even after I discovered that he was behind everything, I had handled the matter discreetly. I had taken him to our mentor's memorial in private and made him atone for the evil he had committed. I hadn't subjected him to a public trial or brutal punishment. Instead, I had granted him a quick death. This time, I strode forward and spoke loudly enough for everyone present to hear, "No, Kalix. Since everyone just heard this woman accuse you, we have to investigate this matter thoroughly. We can't allow her to ruin your reputation without getting to the truth."As soon as I said this, the crowd began shouting in agreement. "Exactly! He's the Celestial Sage who is the kindest and most honorable among us. How could anyone allow that wretch to slander him?""Investigate this thoroughly and clear Lord Kalix's name!""Absolutely! A year passed by quickly.Soon, it was time for the annual trials for the disciples of Mount Spiria. In my previous life, this was also the day Aria had begun to truly hate me.The first rule of the trials was that disciples were forbidden from seriously injuring their fellow disciples. Everyone was expected to stop once they had established an advantage. During the matches in my past life, dozens of female disciples had suddenly collapsed. Blood had poured from their lower bodies as they passed out. The disciples who had been fighting them were bewildered. They hadn't used any particularly powerful attacks.Every one of the women who sustained mysterious injuries had been Kalix's disciple. An investigation later had revealed the truth. Every one of those women had been pregnant. The intense fighting during the trial matches had caused them to miscarry. After questioning and investigating the victims, the horrifying truth had come to light. They had all been carrying Kalix's chi
