Chapter 3

Author: Alyssa J
I met his gaze steadily. "A Thrall has no place in the main Blood Ledger. I'm just... adapting to my new reality."

Damien's expression turned distressed. "You'll always be my Consort, Serena. You have a place here in our coven."

I met his gaze steadily. "As your future Consort, I should follow coven law. I won't embarrass you as a Lord."

He pulled me closer, voice thick with emotion. "You always think of me first. That's why you're perfect for our coven."

I suppressed a bitter smile at his performance.

"Damien, I want to leave the healing chamber."

His body tensed immediately.

"Absolutely not. You haven't healed enough. I won't risk it."

I tugged at his arm playfully, forcing a bright smile.

"But didn't you mention adopting a child?" I made my voice small, worried. "High Blood children are rarely abandoned. Will we be able to find one?"

It was the first time in five years I'd acted vulnerable with him.

Damien's expression softened. "Don't worry about that. A friend of mine, another Lord, died in a territory war two years ago. His child is in our coven's orphan ward. We can visit him."

He hesitated, then added, "I've been checking on the boy occasionally. Making sure he's cared for."

On the drive there, Damien reached into the back seat and brought out a small silver bat-wing pendant.

He claimed he'd bought it specially for me, to cheer me up.

But the tag clearly stated "Suitable for children ages 3-12."

I set the pendant aside and closed my eyes, pretending to feel unwell.

This five-year deception needed to end.

At the orphan ward, I sat in the wheelchair, my burned body still too weak to walk.

A small boy, about three years old, immediately ran to Damien.

"Daddy!" he cried, wrapping his arms around Damien's legs.

Damien's face flickered with panic before he quickly explained:

"Don't misunderstand. I sponsor this ward. I've visited several times, and this boy... he's just attached to me. Calls every male visitor 'daddy.'"

I nodded, reaching out to touch the boy's cheek.

"He looks so much like you. If you hadn't explained, I'd think he was yours."

The boy had Damien's exact crimson eyes. His small features echoed Vivienne's.

"What's his name?"

"Lucien. He's... he's the one I thought we could adopt."

I stroked the boy's hair, noting how his scent carried traces of both Damien and Vivienne.

Even with my dulled senses, there was no mistaking it.

Before Damien could explain further, Lucien started crying, asking where his mother was.

Damien's face went pale instantly. I could sense his fear pheromones spike even through my weakened perception.

His eyes darted to me anxiously.

"It's fine," I said smoothly, forcing my lips into a gentle smile. "Go comfort him. He has strong High Blood lineage - he'll make a perfect heir for our coven. His aura already shows such potential."

My words visibly relieved him.

Damien hurried into Elara's apothecary with Lucien in his arms, the boy's small hands clutching his father's shirt with familiar ease.

I made an excuse about getting my burn medicine, lingering near the door.

Even with my weakened senses, I could detect Vivienne's signature night jasmine perfume from inside.

The coven members' voices drifted clearly through the gap.

"Why is Lord Damien pretending his own son is an orphan? Those clothes are blood-silk from the Shadow Weavers - worth more than my yearly salary. The moonstone buttons alone cost thousands! Who'd believe he's an orphan?"

"You don't understand. The Lord's got it all planned out. This is the only way to make the boy his legitimate heir. Be smart and keep your mouth shut around Serena - she can't know."

"Of course Vivienne is his true choice. They used to run night patrol together at the academy, always volunteering for the darkest routes. I knew they'd end up together! And now, alone in that office..."

Their knowing laughter made my chest tighten until I could barely breathe.

I moved closer to the door, and familiar voices became clear.

"How is he treating you?" Damien asked softly.

"Fine enough. He's away on territory business most of the time, which makes things easier. This way, he won't discover about Lucien. He even talks about having children with me." Vivienne's voice held barely contained amusement.

Damien's laugh was bitter. "Once Lucien is officially in the manor, you won't have to worry. If you need anything, just call me. I'll always provide for you both."

"Oh, I got you something. A Healing Blood Crystal from the Ancient House. Cost me ten million, but it's worth it - it can heal any scar completely."

Vivienne gasped as she opened the box. "Another gift? You've given me so many presents this year, my chamber is overflowing! Serena would be upset if she knew."

She protested, but her hands eagerly cradled the crystal.

Lucien cuddled against Vivienne's side, pressing his tiny fangs gently against her neck in the instinctive way of vampire children with their true mothers. "Mommy! Mommy! Can we go home now?"

"What if Serena figures it out?" Vivienne asked. "These burns... if she learns you gave me a Healing Blood Crystal..."

"She won't need it," Damien said. "A Thrall's scars don't matter to the coven."

Lucien's laughter echoed from the room - pure and happy, secure in his parents' love.

I focused on healing at the foreign coven's sanctuary, ignoring news from home.Isolde visited nearly every day to help with my recovery. The days passed peacefully enough. But for Damien, everything spiraled into chaos. After a week without finding me, he lost control. He drowned himself in Deadblood Wine, barely staying conscious. In a drunken rage, he challenged another Lord in the streets. The fight left him critically wounded in the healers' ward. His old friend, the apothecary Elara who had poisoned my bloodline, finally confronted him:"Shall I tell you the truth? Serena was conscious during the Purified Essence injection. She heard everything, even though she couldn't move.""I saw her tears fall as the Purified Essence burned through her veins.""Damien, you broke her completely. She won't return.""I warned you from the start - you and Serena were true Blood-Bonded. Vivienne was just an academy fling, a shadow that should have faded.""You were lost in memories. Serena could

Tears fell onto his phone screen.Damien sent message after message.Professing his enduring love.Confessing his betrayals. But each message bounced back undelivered.I had blocked him completely.Damien didn't hesitate any longer, driving frantically to join the search parties. But it was too late. They found no trace of me at the hunter attack site.Meanwhile, my flight had already landed overseas. The staged hunter ambush had been my parting gift.My carefully laid trap for the Lord who had tried to destroy me.He wanted me scarred, wanted my bloodline power dead, wanted me living in his web of lies.So I'd left him a gift of my own.My friend Isolde waited at the airport, gasping when she saw my burned flesh. She touched the scars gently, tears streaming down her face."How could this happen? Damien promised to protect you! He swore a blood oath!""Did he do this? Why can only foreign healers help you? It was him, wasn't it? Serena, why are you still protecting him? Can't you see

Guilt and regret warred in Damien's heart like clashing blades, his Bloodline Authority fluctuating dangerously with each surge of emotion. After a long moment, his voice emerged cold as winter, each word carrying the weight of a Lord's command:"Serena is my only mate," he growled, fangs dropping. "My blood chose her, even if I was too blind to see it.""Whether she lives or dies, she is the only one I will claim. The blood bonds don't lie - they never accepted Vivienne."His claws emerged as he continued, "I don't care if Vivienne is mated or single. It means nothing to me now. All her lies, all her manipulations - they're worth less than dust.""That night three years ago was a mistake," he spat the words like poison. "If I'd known Lucien would come of it, I would never have touched her. Never have started this chain of destruction."His power crackled visibly now, making the ceremonial candles flicker. "This ceremony was what you wanted - you can deal with the aftermath. I'm done w

The coven elders approached Damien through the crowded hall, relief radiating from their expressions. But their words struck like pure silver to his heart, burning deeper than any physical wound."Now that Serena's gone, you can finally claim Vivienne properly," his mother said, satisfaction dripping from every word. "No need to keep up these tiresome pretenses anymore."She adjusted her ceremonial robes with practiced elegance. "That Thrall was worthless anyway. A High Blood can't have a mate without bloodline power - it's unnatural. The coven would never have truly accepted her.""Choose a date soon," his father added eagerly. "Make your blood oath official. The coven hasn't had such cause for celebration in years! After the ceremony, we'll have Serena's chambers cleared out immediately. Vivienne can move in tonight - no point in waiting now."Damien stood frozen, staring at his parents' jubilant faces. His claws dug into his palms, drawing blood that he barely felt. For the first ti

Gideon hurried away, face pale with fear of his Lord's rage, nearly stumbling in his haste to escape. As soon as he left, Vivienne glided closer with practiced grace. She maintained her usual gentle demeanor, the one she'd perfected over years of deception - head slightly bowed, eyes wide with concern, every movement calculated to appear harmless. Her hand slipped softly around Damien's arm, her touch deliberately light and soothing."What's wrong, my love?" she murmured, voice honey-sweet. "Did something happen to Serena? I knew she'd be upset about me standing in for the ceremony. She's always been... sensitive."Her lips curved in false sympathy. "But this is an important coven event. All the neighboring Lords are here, the coven elders are watching. Even if she's angry, she shouldn't try to ruin this moment with false rumors about hunter attacks! It's so... beneath her.""Damien," she pressed closer, her night jasmine perfume wrapping around him like a subtle trap, "you've always i

  • My Vampire Lord Mate Replaced Me on Mating Ceremony   Chapter 6

The blood oath ceremony began in earnest.Damien stood at the ceremonial altar, but his mind kept replaying our last phone call. Something in my tone had unsettled his blood, an unease that grew stronger with each passing moment. He turned to Gideon urgently, interrupting the ritual preparations."Find Serena. She won't let me bond another without causing trouble."As they finished the ceremonial toasts, Damien led Vivienne through the crowd of well-wishers.Gideon rushed back, face ashen."My Lord!" he gasped, struggling to catch his breath. "There's been an attack on the northern border! Serena... she took a car to leave coven territory. A group of hunters ambushed the vehicle at the crossing point."His next words fell like stones: "The patrol found the wreckage. No survivors. The hunters..." he swallowed hard, "they left nothing to find."The ceremony fell silent. The joy drained from Damien's face so quickly it was as if someone had pulled a plug, leaving him a shade of white more
