Chapter 4

Author: Green Ghostfire
I stared at the woman whose face had twisted into absolute savagery. Right then, I believed I had terrible judgement in the past.

Even though the Snow family was good, Georgia was hopeless.

When we were both in our thirties. I had already taken over most of my family’s business. Georgia, on the other hand, still muddled through her days while indulging in her “powerful CEO” fantasy.

“Okay,” I said flatly.

Georgia was caught off guard. “What did you say?”

I walked over to the cabinet and took out an agreement. I already had my lawyers draft the agreement as I tossed it onto the coffee table.

“I said okay. Let’s get a divorce.”

The divorce agreement was printed in black and white. It lay quietly on the coffee table.

Fernando peeked out from Georgia’s arms. When he saw the divorce agreement, there was a glimpse of delight in his eyes.

“Simon, you finally came to your senses! Are you giving us your blessings and letting us be together?”

Meanwhile, Georgia fixed her gaze on the divorce agreement as her expression kept changing.

She probably never expected me to actually bring up divorce.

Over the years, she had been out partying. She never bothered with her family’s business.

In her mind, I was probably still the inexperienced young man from eight years ago.

She believed I was nothing but trash without the Snow family.

Georgia sneered. “Simon, you’re the one who brought this up. When my mom asks about it, you’d better tell the truth.

“Good. After all, I’ve never had any feelings for you. You should step away and let Fernando take your place.”

Did I even care if she had feelings for me? Upon hearing her childish remarks, I almost laughed.

I took the pen and signed the papers. Then, I uncapped it and held it out to her.

“It’s my call. Whoever regrets it is the loser. Go ahead, Georgia.”

She snatched the pen and quickly signed her name across the papers.

“You can have the house and the car. I don’t care about them!” Georgia tossed the pen aside and wrapped an arm around Fernando’s waist as she helped him up.

“Fernando, let’s go. A place like this isn’t worth staying in! I’ll buy you an even bigger mansion.”

Fernando nestled into her arms and shot me a smug look before turning toward the door.

“Wait,” I called out to them.

Georgia turned around, and her face was full of mockery. “What? Are you scared? Do you want to make me stay? Too late.”

I smiled brightly like never before.

“No. I only want to remind you that once you step out of this house, everything you think you have may not be the same anymore.”

Georgia snorted. “Who are you trying to scare? My family business is far bigger than you think. You don’t get to threaten it!”

Right after she finished speaking, she walked out with Fernando. She slammed the door shut without a second glance.

After the loud bang, the world finally fell quiet.

I took the signed divorce agreement from the table and lightly blew on the still-wet ink. I felt a sense of relief I had not felt in a long time.

I took out my phone and dialed my mother’s number.

She picked up very quickly, and her steady voice came from the other end of the line. “What’s the outcome, Simon?”

I looked out the window as Georgia’s Maybach disappeared into the distance. My tone was calm and firm.

“It’s done. Get ready to pull out the investment.

“Withdraw all funds from the Snow family’s projects in West City. Notify the banks and start calling in their loans. Also, issue a public statement that Lokeman Group is terminating all strategic collaborations with Snow Group.”

On a late autumn day, a light but persistent drizzle descended from the sky.I was about to head upstairs after parking my car in the underground parking lot.Suddenly, a shadow lunged out from behind the pillar and fell to her knees in front of my car.“Simon!”I was startled. Looking closely, I finally recognized the disheveled and foul-smelling one-legged woman before me. It was none other than the once-proud heiress of the Snow family, Georgia. She was wearing a filthy and worn-out jacket. Her face was bruised, and her gaze was filled with despair.“Simon, I beg you. Give me some money. I have no money to buy food. My mom is still in the hospital waiting to pay her medical bills…”Georgia lowered her head, and her pleading voice echoed through the empty lot.“Think of what we once were. Just give me ten thousand dollars. Even five thousand dollars will do. Simon, I really have nowhere else to turn to…”Feeling nothing, I went back to my car and watched her through the wind

The Snow family collapsed even faster than I had expected. That very night, Catherine suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Although they saved her, she was left partially paralyzed and no longer able to run things.Georgia, that useless jerk, was forced to take over. However, what did she know about running a business? In the face of bank debt collections, suppliers cutting them off, and a plunge of stock price, all she could do was lash out and drown herself in alcohol. The Snow family sold everything they had including their luxurious mansion, cars, and private jets.Even Georgia’s prized limited-edition sports cars were offloaded at a loss to cover debts. The once-prominent Snow Group declared bankruptcy and liquidation in less than half a month. As for me, I was wise enough to pull out in time, so I came out completely unscathed. In fact, my decisive actions earned me a reputation in the business world for being ruthless and efficient. Lokeman Group’s stock price rose instead o

The air became still.Fernando froze mid-selfie and stared at Georgia in disbelief. “Georgia, what’s going on? Didn’t you say we could buy whatever we wanted?”The manager’s expression darkened, and his smile faded. “Ms. Snow, this isn’t something to joke about. With a bill close to a hundred million dollars, if payment can’t be made, we’ll have to proceed legally.”A fine layer of sweat formed on Georgia’s forehead. She started to panic.“Wait. Maybe the bank system’s under maintenance. I’ll call my mom.”Georgia fumbled as she took out her phone and dialed Catherine’s number. To prove that she had done nothing wrong, she deliberately put the call on speaker.“Mom, what’s going on? None of my cards are working! I’m at the auction house in Jute Palace. Transfer me a hundred million dollars right now. I need it urgently.”There was dead silence on the other end of the line. Then, Catherine’s voice exploded in a hysterical scream. She was so loud that I could even hear it from

What followed was unexpectedly interesting. The next lot was the Crown of Empress Eugenie at three million dollars.I raised my paddle. “Four million dollars.”Georgia immediately followed suit. “Five million dollars.”I raised my paddle. “Six million dollars.”Georgia raised her paddle. “Eight million dollars.”I practically laughed inside as I watched her expression. She was determined to beat me no matter what.I raised my paddle again. “Ten million dollars.”Georgia’s eyes reddened with fury as she shouted, “Twelve million dollars!”I raised my paddle halfway before lowering it without warning. Then, I turned around and flashed her a smile. “Congratulations, Georgia. You’re truly rich.”Georgia froze and did not expect me to back off so easily. However, the applause from the crowd quickly went to her head. What happened in the next half an hour turned into a showdown between Georgia and me.Whatever lots that came up on stage, as long as I raised my paddle, she would d

The auction venue was filled with people in fine clothing. Many socialites were present there. I wore a bespoke black suit as I walked in alone.I had barely taken my seat when a commotion broke out at the entrance. What a small world.Georgia wore a white suit like a showy peacock in full display as she linked arms with Fernando, who had dressed to the nines. He also wore a diamond-studded watch. If I remembered correctly, Georgia had bought it at an auction last month for seven figures.Apparently, the duo saw me too.Georgia paused mid-stride, and her lips curled into a mocking smile as she walked over with Fernando. They even had the nerve to take the empty seats right next to me.“Hello, my ex-hubby.”Georgia crossed her legs and sized me up disdainfully. “It looks like you can’t handle loneliness right after the divorce. Did you come here to find yourself a rich woman?”Fernando covered his mouth as he chuckled. “Georgia, don’t be so hard on Simon. Maybe he’s here to r

After I hung up, my phone screen lit up again. The caller ID showed that it was Catherine.I watched her name flash on my screen for a while before slowly answering it.“Simon…” Catherine sounded exhausted, like she had aged ten years.“I just got a call from the bank. They said your company’s pulling out the investment and calling in loans early…”I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out at the glittering city skyline. My tone was as calm, as though I were talking about the weather.“Yes. Georgia and I have signed the divorce agreement. Since we’ve terminated our arranged marriage, the business ties between our families naturally come to an end as well. That’s how it works. You’re in business, so you should understand this.” There was a long silence on the other end of the line. It was so long that I thought the line had dropped. Then, I heard a heavy sigh as if she was releasing all the weight that had been weighing on her chest. “What a disaster!” Catheri
