登入Sam’s POV
. . My body tensed the moment he got into the car. My knee bounced uncontrollably as I turned toward him. His eyes were already on me. Completely relaxed, he leaned back against his seat before nodding toward me. "Put your seatbelt on." I glared at him, tilting my head. "Speak." He took a drag from his cigarette before exhaling a cloud of smoke. It drifted straight into my face. I held my breath, but it didn't stop the embarrassing coughs that escaped me. "You look tired." He started the engine. "Let's talk over dinner." I stared at him as the car pulled away. My brows furrowed. A disbelieving scoff left my lips. "Are you crazy?" My voice boiled with irritation. "Is this some kind of sick joke?" I turned fully toward him. "Are you fucking playing with me?" He calmly took another drag from the cigarette, steering with one hand while resting comfortably against the driver's seat. Then he looked at me. A small smirk curved his lips. "It's just dinner, sweetheart." His voice was low. Dangerously calm. It got under my skin. I glared at him, my heavy breathing filling the silence inside the car. His lips twitched again before he returned his attention to the road. I looked away, turning toward the window. I didn't know why I was here. Why I had even gotten into this damn car. Why I was letting him drive me anywhere. Or why I was somehow agreeing to have dinner with the man who had just destroyed my life. But I needed answers. Answers about Andrea. About last night. And then... It would all be over. • The restaurant was enormous. Strangely empty, too. Apart from the waiters greeting us with polite smiles—some even strangely bowing slightly—it looked like the entire place had been cleared out. They guided us toward a table in the center of the room, soft lights surrounding it. I frowned. Nicholas pulled out the chair opposite him before looking at me. "Sit." A curse sat on the tip of my tongue. Before I could say it, one of the waitresses gently pulled the chair back for me with a warm smile. I forced one in return before sitting down. My eyes wandered everywhere except toward the man across from me. The restaurant was breathtaking. Expensive. Every tiny detail looked carefully chosen. Soft piano music drifted through the room. It was the perfect place to bring someone you loved. ... I wonder if he brought her here. If they sat at this exact table while they laughed... Kissed... And— "You like the place." His deep voice snapped me back to reality. I looked up. He leaned comfortably against his chair, his legs spread slightly beneath the table. The top three buttons of his suit jacket were undone. A glass of wine rested in his hand. He slowly swirled it before bringing it to his nose, taking in the aroma. Then he took a sip. His eyes never left mine. "Good wine." He gestured toward the untouched glass in front of me. "Have a taste." I straightened in my seat. "Why the hell did you send me that video?" My voice came out quieter than I'd intended. He tilted his head ever so slightly, his mouth opening to speak— "Good evening, gentlemen." The waiter approached with our food. "Please allow me." He carefully placed each plate onto the table. I never looked away from Nicholas. He simply took another slow sip of his wine. "Please enjoy your meal." The waiter smiled before walking away. The moment he disappeared, I opened my mouth to speak again. Nicholas raised a single finger. Somehow... It shut me up immediately. "Eat." His voice remained calm. "Then we'll talk." My jaw tightened. Who the hell did he think he was? Ordering me around like I was some child. But... Weirdly... I didn't argue. Maybe because I already knew arguing with him wouldn't get me anywhere. Or maybe because the smell of the food had already made my stomach growl twice in less than a minute. I shot him one last glare before looking down at the dishes. Everything looked elegant. Foreign. Too pretty to even eat. Fine. Just one bite. That was it. I picked up my fork and tried the dish that looked the most familiar. The flavor melted across my tongue. I took another bite. Then another. And another. By the time I finally put my fork down, nearly half the food on my plate was gone. I quietly wiped the corners of my mouth with my napkin, pretending not to notice how embarrassing that probably looked. When I looked up... He was watching me. Still. A single grape rested between his fingers before he popped it into his mouth. His eyes had barely left me the entire meal. I set the napkin down and took a slow breath. Straightening my shoulders, I met his gaze. "Why did you send me the video, Nicholas?" This time my voice came out steadier. His fingers tapped lightly against the table. "I wanted you to see it." My teeth clenched. "Why?" I leaned forward. "To humiliate me?" He reached for the wine bottle and poured himself another glass. The soft sound of wine filling crystal echoed between us. He lifted the glass. Looked at it. Then looked back at me. "She needed to be gone." He leaned back into his chair, lazily swirling the wine again. Confusion washed over me. "I don't..." I frowned. "I don't understand." He brought the glass to his lips, taking another slow sip before setting it back down. His expression was more serious than I'd seen all day. "So I can have you, Sam."Sam’s POV..I stared at the new mug as different thoughts struck me.I had broken this mug at three in the morning during one of my midnight study sessions a few weeks ago. I had thrown it out at the same time. But here it was, sitting among the gifts that were somehow everything I’d ever wanted.Maybe those were coincidences. Maybe they were things that were easy enough to guess. But this?“Let’s not quickly imagine he’s a stalker, alright? Maybe he just… I don’t know, asked Andrea what you liked?”I swallowed.Maybe that was a possibility. It made sense. It could be—My breath hitched as I turned the mug around, my throat instantly drying as my eyes landed on the bottom of the cup. There were words engraved into it.Please don’t break me again.“He was watching me.”My jaw tightened as I turned to Patrick, who was staring at me with sympathetic eyes. He grabbed the mug from my hands and read it too.I ran a hand through my hair as I began pacing back and forth across the living ro
Sam’s POV..I walked to my door, letting out a heavy sigh as I fumbled with the keys in my pocket, bringing them out and opening the door before I froze.I stood there, my mouth slightly open as a small gasp escaped me, my eyes roaming over the small living room that was now filled with gifts and bouquets of flowers EVERYWHERE.They were on my couch, the floor, the counter, even the stove. Wrapped gifts of different colors were scattered around the room, making my small living room look like some kind of luxury store.I grabbed my phone from my pocket, calling the first number I could think of as I brought it to my ear.“Patrick, come to my house… now.”.I looked at Patrick, who stared at the house with wide eyes, his gaze roaming through the living room before stopping on me.I shifted from one foot to the other, impatiently waiting for him to say something.“Angel face… you said someone broke into your house?”he asked, almost breathless.Patrick had called me “Angel Face” since
Sam’s POV..I rushed out of the elevator and into the office as I felt the woman's grip on my arm loosening. My eyes immediately scanned the huge, dark office. A chandelier hung in the middle of the room, illuminating the place with a warm light that gave the darkness a little brightness. Sunlight crept in slightly through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, mostly hidden behind the heavy curtains. My eyes landed on the man whose gaze left his computer screen and landed on me. Half of his face was covered by the darkness, so I couldn't completely read his expression."I'm so sorry, boss. He—he rushed into the elevator before I could call security. I tried to tell him his girlfriend wasn't here, but he wouldn't listen."She said it breathlessly, her voice shaking as both of us tried to catch our breath.I looked back at Nicholas. He slowly leaned back in his chair and gave her a small nod. That was enough. She immediately dropped her hands from my arm and nodded back before walking to
Sam’s POV..I got down from the car, waving to my dad’s coworker who had decided to drop me off home. I looked down at the little bowl of food in my hands as a small smile came to my face. After the “miracle” that had happened at work, every one of my dad’s coworkers had pulled up to our house to have lunch together and talk about what happened. My mom was more than happy to cook after hearing her husband had almost been deported, which, of course, would eventually mean she would have to leave too.The lunch had been full of praises for me as they recapped my bravery and how I had confronted the cops and convinced them, with my “law” brain, to release them. My parents’ pride seemed to swell by the second as they subtly boasted about how smart their child was.But that wasn’t the case, was it?My “brains” didn’t save me.Nicholas Grey did.And something about that pushed me off the edge.It was probably my ego. Having to run to the same man I had told to stay away from me. The same m
Sam’s POV..I stared at the laptop, reading through scholarship options as I wrote down every single requirement for each school, ignoring the way my stomach grumbled. I couldn’t even remember how long I’d been sitting here, but the harsh sunlight pouring through the window told me it was definitely well past morning. It’s been two weeks since my whole world fell apart. Two weeks since I’d thrown myself into anything and everything that could keep me busy. I hadn’t cried myself to sleep these past few days, so I could tell this method was working.‘Maybe it’s because you haven’t had any sleep yet.’“Shut up,” I muttered to myself, switching tabs to search for part-time jobs near me.The bartending job paid enough to eat properly and cover rent… but definitely not enough to save for law school tuition, and I had very little time left to pull everything together.I scrolled through different websites, completely focused, when my phone suddenly rang, blasting through the silent house a
Sam’s POV.."Excuse me?"I stared at him, my eyes widening slightly. He simply stared back.A small, humorless laugh escaped me as I rubbed my temples and slowly nodded."I think I misheard you—""You heard right, Sam."He leaned forward slightly."I."A pause."Want."Another."You."I stared at him in horror. He sat back, resting his clasped hands on the table.I scratched the back of my head, searching desperately for something to say.Nothing came.I opened my mouth.Closed it.Then did it all over again."I don't understand."The words came out barely above a breath. He picked up another grape, rolling it lazily between his fingers."The dinners."He looked at me."The invitations."Another pause."Andrea."He popped the grape into his mouth."All because of you."He swallowed."Because I want you."I stared at him.His words replayed over and over inside my head. The dinners. The invitations. His mansion.Every conversation.Every smile.Every handshake.Every single interacti
