Chapter 4

Penulis: Sweet Beet
All eyes in the room snapped to me.

I kept my voice low and steady. "Mandy and I are getting a divorce."

"What? A divorce?" Daisy was completely blindsided. "Liam, you and Mandy haven't even been married a month. Where is this coming from?"

Mandy glared at me, her brow furrowing. "Liam, what kind of nonsense is this? We're here today to announce that I'm pregnant. Since when are we getting a divorce?"

Hearing that, Oscar and Daisy brightened right up.

"Mandy's pregnant? Oh, that's wonderful

I brushed past Mandy and pulled my suitcase toward the stairs.Mandy refused to give up and followed me. I opened the door, went inside, and shut it in her face. She stood outside the door and shouted, "Liam, I'll show you how determined I am! I will get you back!"I dismissed her words as nothing but bullshit. After setting down my suitcase, I immediately took out my phone and called a friend to ask what exactly had happened between Mandy and Samuel while I was away.He told me that after the divorce, Oscar and Daisy used the excuse that the Sanchez family line couldn't end to force Mandy and Samuel to break up."Your dad and I don't care what kind of relationship you two have, but our family line cannot end. You're coming back to our hometown with me for blind dates, and you're marrying a man who can carry on the bloodline. And once you're married, you are never to contact Samuel again."As soon as Samuel heard their demand, he refused."Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez, Mandy and I trul

Frank, who had been listening on the side, snorted in contempt."Talked it over? Please. That's just sugarcoating it. They must've consulted a lawyer and realized they don't stand a chance of winning the appeal. Now they want to settle out of court. Liam, don't fall for it."I flashed Frank an OK sign to reassure him. Then I said into the phone, "You've really got this all figured out, haven't you? I bought the car, so it's mine anyway. But I put 300,000 dollars into the renovations, and now you're only offering me 200,000 dollars. You're trying to shortchange me!"Daisy revised her offer on the spot. "Then we'll give you the 300,000 dollars."I refused, my voice cold. "I told you—I'm not haggling, and I'm not discussing this. We'll go by the court's judgment. Whatever compensation I'm owed, don't even think about shortchanging me by a single cent!"I hung up abruptly. To keep them from pestering me again, I blocked the entire family.Mandy tried to see me twice after that, but

Daisy seemed to be staying out of their relationship, but the moment those words left her mouth, the pressure was unmistakable. She knew Samuel couldn't have children, so insisting that the Sanchez family bloodline couldn't end was, in effect, ordering Mandy to find another man.Samuel gripped Mandy's hand tightly."Mandy…" he said in a low, wounded voice. But Mandy's mind was in chaos, and she had no emotional capacity left to comfort him. She only nodded at Daisy to show she understood.…After leaving the hotel, I took a taxi straight to Frank's law firm.I told him exactly what had happened at lunch, without leaving out a single detail.Frank said approvingly, "Liam, I've known you all these years, and today you finally stood up for yourself. Throwing water on that cheating snake? Nice work!"The praise made me a little embarrassed."Even a doormat has its limits. She deceived and hurt me like this—of course I'm making her pay. That glass of water was only the beginning."

Mandy took the divorce papers, furrowing her brow as she skimmed the clauses."You want half of my 1.5-million-dollar apartment? Plus another 200,000 dollars for emotional distress?"My voice was calm, leaving no room for negotiation. "That's right. That's what you owe me."Before Mandy could open her mouth, Samuel cut in sharply."No way in hell! That apartment belongs to Mandy. She bought it before you even got married. You have no right to any share of it. And compensation for emotional distress? That's complete nonsense!"He stepped forward, glaring. "You're the one who chose to marry into Mandy's family. If you want a divorce now, you're leaving with nothing. Don't even think about taking a single dime from her."Daisy knew Mandy was in the wrong, but now that it had actually come down to a divorce, she still sided with her daughter. She nodded along with Samuel."Liam, I know Mandy is the one who messed up, but you're the one pushing for a divorce. If you two can't make i

We're finally going to have a grandchild!" Daisy chirped. "Mandy, just tell me whatever you want to eat or drink. I'm moving in right away to take care of you."I watched them calmly, then shattered their happy little illusion."There is no baby. I faked the test. The only reason I invited you here today was to tell you that Mandy and I are getting divorced."Oscar and Daisy froze, then hurriedly turned to me."Liam, what is going on?" Daisy asked. "You two just got married. Why are you ge

On the screen, the moment Mandy and Samuel were sure I was completely passed out, they dropped the act.He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her onto his lap."Mandy, you've been spending all your time with that loser these past few days," he muttered. "Did you forget about me already?"She looped her arms around his neck and pressed a kiss to his cheek."We just got married. If I didn't play along for a couple of days, he'd get suspicious. Don't worry, you're the only one I love," she coaxed. "If you could have kids, I never would've married him just to get my parents off my back. Once I have a baby, I'll divorce him, and we can be together out in the open."He scoffed. "Who knows if you really mean that?"A suggestive smile spread across her face. "If you don't believe me, I'll prove it. Since the wedding, I've only let Liam touch me once."He swept her up and carried her toward the bedroom."I even bought the bed you liked best," she purred. "Come try it out with me
