Chapter 2

作者: Blue Socks
Carlson looked at me closely. “You’ve changed a lot over the years.

“You couldn’t even lift any heavy stuff back then, but you can carry half a pig now!”

Everyone laughed.

I felt nothing when I heard his bitter words.

Ever since Poppy had died, all I felt was numb.

“Where’s the back kitchen?” I asked in a hoarse voice.

Carlson pointed in a direction.

I was about to walk over when I bumped into Bella.

“Pete, why are you here?”

Carlson wrapped his arm around Bella possessively. “Bella, have you forgotten that today is our wedding anniversary?

“I called a butcher to bring us some ingredients. I didn’t expect the butcher to be Professor Taylor! What a coincidence!”

I lowered my head slightly. My fingernails, which were covered in bits of minced meat and fats, dug into my palm.

Back then, after I left jail, I still focused on my research on cancer medicine. After all, it was something that could save millions of lives.

However, the clinical trials ran into problems. The patients’ conditions worsened after the medicine.

I was overwhelmed by the whispers and accusations around me. People called me a monster and wanted me to pay with my life.

My family was affected. Under pressure, Bella chose to end her life by ingesting sleeping pills.

I suffered from losing my wife while I searched for evidence to prove my innocence.

However, someone had deliberately deleted all my data.

A week later, Carlson received an award after stealing my life’s work.

Now that I saw Carlson and Bella hugging each other, I understood everything.

Not only did Bella fool around with her assistant, but she had also stolen my data.

I suffered immense guilt for a long time.

I thought I had hurt her. In the end, it seemed they had been toying with me.

I was enraged.

I could not help but ask, “Why did you betray me?”

Twenty years ago, when my mother was flipping through the list of students needing a sponsor, I saw Bella’s profile.

She was extremely skinny, but her eyes were bright.

I begged my mother for days before she agreed to sponsor Bella.

Bella worked really hard to prove herself. She spent ten years studying hard to get into a university in my city.

On the first day of university, my mother brought her home with her. She was in an ill-fitting male shirt.

She hung her head timidly and bowed to us.

“Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, for your sponsorship. I’ll definitely study hard to repay you.”

Her voice was soft but determined.

We got into the same university.

Bella grew even more beautiful.

Under the blossom tree, she smiled at me in her white dress and said, “Pete, I like you.”

I stood dumbfoundedly as my heart raced.

That day, we became a couple.

After we graduated from university, she applied for an internship at my father’s company, and I focused on my cancer research.

She told me to focus on my work. She said she would work to earn funds for my research.

Within a year, she had doubled the company’s revenue.

On the day we got married, she passed my parents a prenup.

“Mr. Taylor, thank you for your sponsorship and mentorship.

“Pete and I truly love each other. I’m willing to work for the Taylor family forever without taking a single cent.”

She had declared that with such conviction that it moved my parents.

My parents helped her set up a new company and even funded it for a while.

On the day her company got listed, Bella rented out the highest floor of the tallest building in the city. We held a grand wedding that was widely reported in the news.

“I finally managed to catch up to you.”

We kissed on the tallest building and welcomed our new married life.

After that, I spent most of my time on my research.

After my research passed the first round of clinical trials, I was stoked to share the good news with her.

But then, I saw her sleeping with her assistant.

I laughed and shook my head. “Is it because I’m poor now? Don’t worry. I’ll earn the money back. Just give me one more chance…”“I never looked down on you.“I always believed in you. I knew you’d make something of yourself even before your success.“What got me through my hardest point in my life was my love for you and your love for me.”Bella looked like she was overwhelmed with regret. She covered her face and said in a low voice, “I’m sorry. I only knew how precious your love was after I lost you.”I wiped the family portrait on the counter. It was our family portrait, but I had cut Bella out. In the picture, Poppy looked at Bella and me lovingly.I asked, “Do you know what Poppy’s last words were?”She looked up at me and asked in a trembling voice, “What?” “She told me to stop crying. She said that you were in heaven waiting for her, and she wasn’t afraid.“Bella, you know I wish you were actually dead.”Bella immediately teared up. She opened her mouth but co

He was throwing a tantrum. Bella’s face darkened. “Stop making a scene here!’Bella then looked at me apologetically. That gaze was the same as six years ago. “I’m sorry you have to witness this.”Carlson teared up at that. When Bella was not paying attention, Carlson picked up the knife and charged toward me again. Bella saw him and quickly stopped him. But it was too late. Carlson could not stop his momentum and ended up stabbing her in the chest.“Bella!” he screamed and threw himself at her as he sobbed. Bella struggled in pain and looked at me, “I’m happy that you’re fine, Pete.“I owe you too much. Really…” I called the police and glanced at Bella in disgust. “Please stop acting as if you love me. “The Bella that I loved is dead.” The Bella I knew would prepare warm water for me when I had the flu and tucked me into bed. She was not the woman who could leave me alone in the rain while she left with her lover. The Bella I knew would always call and text

The next morning, Carlson appeared before the butcher shop. He was wearing the same clothes that I had worn when I first met him. “How does it feel to switch identities, Professor Taylor?”I laughed indifferently. “You’re wearing a light blue suit that’s worth two hundred and nine thousand dollars. That suit is so outdated.”Carlson’s expression changed, and he looked at me hatefully. “I know what you’re thinking. You’re planning to marry Bella again!“I’m telling you! Give up on that idea! She’s not someone you can be with anymore!”He slammed a card on the table and stared at me arrogantly. “Don’t you want some compensation? Here’s eight million dollars. Take it and leave!“If you dare to appear before Bella and me, I won’t hold back!”I did not take the card. I stared coldly at him. “I didn’t think you’d still be this shallow after so many years. You broke someone else’s marriage for money in the past. You have enough money now. Do you think you can really stop her

Bella hesitated. She agreed to delay our divorce until she gave birth to Poppy. To save my marriage, I looked the other way. I no longer brought Carlson up. Instead, I focused on Poppy. That year, our relationship recovered, and we found love again. But she secretly took Poppy along to meet up with Carlson.Poppy hated Carlson. She hit him when he tried to carry her.Carlson fell and suffered a huge injury. When I saw Bella and her disappointed face, I thought that our marriage was over. I did not expect Bella to end her life by ingesting sleeping pills. When I saw Bella’s cold body, I broke down in tears. After she died, I felt sorry for her and Carlson. I regretted not divorcing her earlier. It would have at least saved her life. However, I did not know all that was fake. She had only done that to torture me.I had lost everything because of them. I could not get back what I had lost. No matter how much I hated her, nothing would change. I turned around and le

I looked at Carlson. “You know about that?”For a thousand dollars, I had picked rubbish and set up my own breakfast stall, but I still could not pay the medical bills. I had done everything I could think of.Bella avoided my gaze and picked up the bank card in frustration. “I didn’t know that you were doing that to treat Poppy’s illness. If I had known, I would’ve definitely—”“I bought all the photo evidence. Don’t worry, none of it was leaked.” After she said that, Carlson took a stack of photos from his bag. The photos were about the same size as his palm. All those photos were a reminder of my humiliating past. “Professor Taylor, we spent more than three million dollars on these.“You should thank us for that.”My fingernails dug into my palm. Carlson flung the photos into the air, and they floated to the floor. A few photos fell next to me. I saw my humiliated face as I begged. Someone picked up the photos and glanced at me. “Wow, all these rich people have

There was once a time when I had been happy with Bella. However, after Carlson appeared in our lives, we started to fight constantly. She faulted me for not trusting her, and she started to stay out at night. I was focusing on my research while trying to resolve the fights with her. It was not until I saw her sleeping with Carlson that I understood her betrayal. It was the first time I had started to distrust our relationship. Even though she promised that she would keep a distance from Carlson, she cheated on me repeatedly. I forced her to get rid of Carlson when I found them being intimate a second time. She gave in, but I felt very anxious. I became suspicious of every man around her. When she went on a business trip and shared a room with her assistant, I would spam her with calls. After her male client got drunk and put his arm around Bella’s shoulders, I rushed forward angrily and slapped him. I did not allow her to spend more than five minutes alone with
