SIX YEARS LATER
GIANNA ~•~ A knock on my door pulled me away from the work I was currently buried in. I looked up just in time to see my secretary, Ivy, walk in. “Miss Windsor, Mr. Salvatore wants to see you in his office.” “Why?” I frowned, wondering why he didn’t call me directly and instead, sent my secretary to get me. “He didn’t say, but he said it’s urgent.” With a sigh, I turned off my computer. It was still early in the morning and I’d just gotten in the mood to work. I hated that I was being pulled out of it. I stood up from my chair and went outside my office. My office was very close to Jack’s but Ivy was following behind me anyway. It was very suspicious. “Why are you following me?” “He said I should bring you to him.” She admitted sheepishly, lowering her gaze. I shook my head. Jack was definitely up to something. “After you then.” She wanted to oppose me but she thought better of it when I raised my eyebrows at her. She quickly walked in front of me and knocked on Jack’s office before opening it. The office was dark as fuck as she walked in so I was skeptical as I walked in too. Before I could question what this was all about, the lights suddenly came on. “Happy birthday!!!” The people hiding in Jack’s office chorused while some people popped confetti all over me. I chuckled, shaking my head. I should have expected it, but I’d genuinely forgotten that it was my birthday. While I was still trying to process the surprise, Jack appeared in front of me with a cake in his hand. There was a single lit candle on the cake and he gestured for me to make a wish. I didn’t have many wishes. I liked where I was at the moment, but I had to do it because it was a birthday ritual. I closed my eyes and joined my hands together. ‘I hope my life remains as peaceful as it is.’ After that, I opened my eyes and blew out the candle, prompting more cheers. “How do you always forget about your birthday?” Jack laughed as he handed the cake to someone else. “Are you that stressed at work? Or are you stressed at home?” I laughed. “I’m not stressed. I just don’t care about my birthdays.” It was that simple. I was at my best in years. I’d finally learned to love myself after all that happened. I had moved on. I had a new life and I was content with it. “Are you sure, Gianna? You know you don’t have to keep anything from me, right?” “I’m sure, Jack,” I said as I looked around at his office which was now ruined with confetti. “Thank goodness you didn’t do this in my office. Someone would have caught a fist.” Jack laughed. “I’m not stupid to stress the birthday girl on her birthday so I did it in mine.” That was just as stupid because it was going to interfere with his work. He could have done it in the conference room or the cafeteria. Then again, men weren’t known for making wise decisions. “Now that this is over, everyone should get back to work.” I clapped my hands, catching the attention of our employees. “But it’s your birthday, Miss Windsor. We’re not done celebrating.” One of them complained. “It’s my birthday. Why are you the one celebrating?” I arched an eyebrow at him. “This is just an excuse to procrastinate so get back to work immediately.” “Yes ma’am.” He said begrudgingly and dropped the cake on the table. “You guys can have the cake.” Their mood significantly improved after that and they took the cake as they filed out of Jack’s office. When they were all gone, Jack looked at me, shaking his head. “You’re so obsessed with work. You can’t even have fun once in your life.” “You’re enabling their behavior. I might have to put you on time out.” He rolled his eyes and walked back to lean on his table which was also covered in confetti. “Now that you’re here, there’s something I wanted to discuss with you.” I looked around the office again, seeing that the chairs and couches were also in confetti. I decided on standing. “Go ahead.” “We’ve talked about branching out a lot, right?” I nodded. “Well, I was thinking we could start with Los Angeles.” I froze. Just because I had moved on didn’t mean I liked hearing about Los Angeles. I didn’t want to know anything about that place. Then again, it was high profile, which meant I saw every mean thing they said about me even after I moved away. Some of them thought I ran away from my marriage. Some of them thought I ran away with another man and only a few people supported me because everyone knew about Bailey’s child. Fuck. I was thinking about all that again. “Los Angeles?” I blinked the memories away. “Mm-hmm. It’s quite a populated place and I’m certain a lot of businesses would need our services, from actresses to regular companies.” “Why did you think of LA first?” I didn’t want to outrightly let him know that I didn’t want to visit that place. I’d left everybody behind when I moved to San Diego. Only my sister knew where I was and visited me frequently. At least, I hoped she was the only one. “We have a client there already and I’m sure if we do a good job, he’ll refer us. It’ll be easy to break the market there.” “We always do a good job.” “I love your confidence but you’re right, we always do a good job.” I let out a breath. “Who’s this client? I’ve never heard of a client in LA.” I was trying to check if it was anyone that had anything to do with my old life. LA was a big place but I wouldn’t be surprised if I ran into someone I used to know. If it was someone I knew, I wouldn’t go with him. “Benjamin Sawyers. Do you know him? He started his company about three years ago.” “Oh.” I calmed down. “You’ll handle most of the work though.” I still didn’t want to risk running into anyone I knew. “My kids can be a handful after all.” “Whatever you say, boss.” I rolled my eyes. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going back to my office.” He nodded. As I left, I was low-key pleased by the surprise. It reminded me that it was my birthday and as I passed by Ivy’s table, I instructed her to order a small cake for me tonight. The only people I cared about celebrating with were my children.GIANNA~•~After a long day at work, I finally returned to my apartment. As soon as I opened the door, I heard a set of feet running toward it.I knew it was Oliver even before I saw him. His sister was becoming nonchalant as the days went by and was beginning to think she was better than receiving or giving affection.“Mommy!” He rushed toward me and I had to hold the cake tightly so it wouldn’t fall when he hugged my legs.“My babyyy,” I cooed. “What have you been up to?”He pulled away and looked up at me. “Nanny Stella was making us finish our holiday homework. I'm so tired.” He let out an exaggerated sigh and that was when he saw the box in my hand. His eyes lit up. “Is that a cake? Is it my birthday?”I chuckled and ruffled his hair with my free hand. “You and your sister have the same birthday, you know that right?”“Is it our birthday?”“Unfortunately not. It's mummy’s birthday today.”His eyes went even wider. “Your birthday? I made a gift for you!”Before I could ask anythin
GIANNA~•~After two years of marriage, I was used to waiting for my husband.I just didn’t know I would be waiting for him tonight as well. It was my birthday and I expected him to be home so we could celebrate together, but he wasn’t.My birthday was celebrated last night because today was a work day, but towards the end of the night, Brandon had gotten a call, which made him rush out of the party before it even ended. I didn’t say anything about it because it could have been an emergency, but when I asked him about it this morning, he said it was nothing and left for work.He hadn’t been back since then.I wasn’t worried about him because coming home late was usual for him, but it was almost midnight and my birthday would soon be over.I bit down on my bottom lip as I stared at the little cake I’d baked by myself earlier in the day. It was my birthday yet I was the one making the cake.“Should I put the cake in the fridge?” Allison, our housekeeper, asked me. “It’s humid and if it
GIANNA~•~Brandon and I barely had time to spend together, but now, it was ruined by his bratty little sister and their supposed family friend, aka, Brandon’s best friend, who was always a little too touchy with him.I had hoped we could leave the house but now, I was forced to stay in and have a pool day.I looked flattering in the one piece I was wearing, but Bailey’s two piece totally stole my shine. I knew I sounded bitter and jealous but I had every reason to when I was sitting alone on the sun bed and Bailey was speaking with Brandon across from me.Bernice was having fun by herself in the pool. It was obvious she didn’t come to hang out with her brother. She just wanted to bring Bailey near him.I didn’t know what kind of expression was on my face, but Brandon locked gazes with me and his eyes went wide. Eventually, he dismissed Bailey and walked toward me, but the pest trailed behind him.“Oh, I almost forgot,” Bailey said when they were within earshot. “The only reason I cam
GIANNA~•~His day off finally made sense. When he came back yesterday, all did was wash up and go straight to work without even having breakfast. He couldn’t even look me in the eye.He felt guilty and was trying to make it up to me by spending the day with me, as if that would solve anything.I should have expected this. Brandon and Bailey had always been close and he was pressured into marrying me. Why did I think he would be loyal to me? I tried to be the best wife anyone could have, but… fuck.I didn’t want to cry. I knew he was going to come in soon and I didn’t want him to see me crying. He was an asshole. He always told me not to worry about Bailey but he didn’t just fuck her once.As expected, the door to our room opened and he walked towards me. “They’re gone.”I laughed bitterly. “Is their absence supposed to change the fact that you left my party, making me cover up for you, only to go and spend the night at your supposed best friend’s house? And your sister, who absolutel
THREE WEEKS LATERGIANNA~•~The last three weeks have been awkward. Brandon was much more affectionate than he had ever been since we got married. I knew it was out of guilt, but it made me think I made the right choice by choosing to ignore the affair. It was like the setback made our relationship much stronger. I hated that I had to live with the fact that my husband knew how it felt to be inside his best friend, but I couldn’t say that I hated the outcome of their affair. He complimented me regularly, ate breakfast with me every day, came back from work early, and ate dinner with me as well. Sometimes, he even bought presents on his way back from work.A pair of hands settled on my shoulders and before I could turn around, Brandon placed a kiss on my neck. “Are you coming to bed anytime soon?”Heat rose to my cheeks, knowing exactly why he wanted me in bed. It was just nine o’clock in the evening and Brandon usually slept late because he was always busy with work.“There’ll be art
BRANDON~•~“You don’t mean this, do you?” I stood up from the bed and approached her slowly. “You’re just venting, right?”“Brandon…” she sighed.“I am not signing these papers, Gianna. Absolutely not.”“What is that supposed to mean?” She asked, folding her arms across her chest, unintentionally drawing my attention there.“Let’s sit down and talk about this first, then we can come to a conclusion. We can’t just part ways like this.” I knew I fucked up. I admitted that, but I didn’t know how to show her my sincerity. I never wanted to sleep with Bailey. We were just friends, nothing more.Bailey and I had been friends since we were born because our parents were friends. While growing up, there were talks that we were going to get married, but I didn’t see her in that light. She also didn’t like me and later on, my father had a bright idea to use my marriage as a collaboration between two companies which was how I ended up with Gianna.I didn’t know Gianna before we got engaged, but
GIANNA~•~I lied about visiting my parents.I felt sick and was going to the hospital. I was still mad at Brandon so I didn’t feel like telling him the truth. He would fuss over me and make me forget that I currently hated him for getting his best friend pregnant while we were married.Brandon’s family was very high profile so I had to wear a baseball cap and a pair of sunglasses to avert attention from me. It was very easy for them to make up a story when they saw me entering the hospital.I pulled over at the parking lot and came down from the car, heading straight inside the building. I didn’t have an appointment so I had to wait in line for the available doctor for diagnosis.I spent almost an hour waiting and throughout then, I was wondering what my life would look like after I divorced Brandon. Definitely, the media would take the news but where would I go from there? I didn’t have a job. I had only two friends who were busy with work. How would I even start over? Brandon and I
GIANNA~•~I woke up even more tired and when my eyes fluttered open, I realized I was in a strange place. It looked like a hotel room, which was weird.Did I get drugged? But the last person I was with was Bernice. She had no reason to drug me, did she?I quickly peeked under the covers to see that my clothes were still intact. The jeans I’d been wearing were tight and my top was still on my body. It meant nobody took advantage of me, so what was I doing here?I looked around to find my phone sitting on one of the nightstands. When I turned it on, there were various phone calls from Brandon, my mother, my friends, and my sister. However, my eyes zeroed in on the time and date. It was eight am in the morning. I blinked in surprise. I had come to the hotel around noon yesterday. I remembered falling over when I tried to walk away but how could I sleep for over twenty hours? The first person I called was my sister. Thankfully, she wasn’t busy and answered almost immediately. “Gianna!” S

BRANDON~•~I slept earlier than usual. I wanted to forget about everything that had happened recently so I went to sleep to stop thinking about it. Due to my bad luck, I only ended up dreaming about Gianna. The dream started out good but it quickly turned into a nightmare. The opposite of reality was happening in my dream. Gianna was pregnant with another man’s child and wanted to bring the man into our matrimonial home. It was scary and frightening and it forced me awake.I didn’t want to think of the future but I also knew the press would soon find out about our divorce. I could already imagine the articles they would write about Gianna even if everything was my fault. I hated the situation I was in. Even more so, I hated the situation I put her in. I didn’t draw clear boundaries with Bailey and look where it got us.My eyes fluttered open and I grabbed my phone to check the time. It was nine o’clock in the morning. I sat up when I saw that I had gotten a message from Gianna. She s
GIANNA~•~“You’ve been through so much, Gianna. Come here.” Emily opened her arms for me and I slid right in, needing the hug now more than ever. “I knew something was wrong when your parents called to ask your whereabouts but I never would have thought it was this serious. I’m so sorry.”“Brandon is such a dick. He was audacious enough to fuck his best friend twice yet he kept giving me the evil eye whenever we came around each other. Such a hypocrite.” Tyler spat out. Brandon was quite insecure when it came to Tyler. He always thought something was going to happen between us, but now that I thought of it, maybe it was because something had happened between him and his best friend so he thought I was like him.To think that Bailey and Brandon had slept with each other once before we got married. No wonder she always walked around with an air of superiority. She knew she had fucked my husband already and for two years, I tried to show her who’s boss, not knowing that they were maki
GIANNA~•~I loved that Bernice was slapped but I hated that I wasn’t the one to do it.As chaos broke, Bailey remained quiet. However, I could see the small smirk on her lips. She was happy with how things were playing out, especially as she didn’t have to get involved. I hated Bernice but I hated Bailey even more. I barely had violent tendencies but I wanted to scratch her eyes out.I was low-key wishing she was involved in the fight so I could smack the shit out of her.“That’s enough!” My father yelled out but Sheila and Bernice were too busy fighting to care. They were fighting over the table so there wasn’t much physical damage but they still had to be pulled away from each other and I had no part in it. I was more than happy that Sheila came with me to put her in her place. “Can you guys stop acting like kids so we can have a mature conversation here?” He continued when their respective mothers had pulled them away from each other.Sheila came back with Bernice’s hair so I woul
BRANDON~•~I winced at the way Gianna’s mother looked directly at me as she said those words. I could tell she was very disappointed and I hated that there was nothing I could do to salvage the situation. My marriage with Gianna was mainly a business deal between our fathers and I had disrespected them by disrespecting their daughter. I hated myself for it. I hated that I was sitting in between Bernice and Bailey. I hated that I was sitting across from Gianna. I wanted her by my side, not opposite me.“The kids agreed not to give birth yet,” Gianna’s mom continued. “Yet he went ahead to impregnate another woman. How do you intend to explain this to us?”“Boys will be boys, ma.” I didn’t know why Bernice didn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. “If he’s close to a beautiful single woman, something is bound to happen between them.”“Emphasis on single.” Sheila attacked her. “Didn’t he realize he wasn’t single? Or are you trying to defend the fact that your brother cheated?”My tongue p
GIANNA~•~I didn’t want to attend a family meeting, especially one where the three people I currently hated the most would be present; Brandon, Bailey, and Bernice. It was called a family meeting but somehow, Bailey was invited. When did she become a part of the family? Fuck, I didn’t even know why I was referring to him as my family.“Gianna, why aren’t you dressed yet?” My mother scolded me when she came into my room and saw me in the sweatpants I’d been wearing all day.“I’m not going if Sheila isn’t going,” I told her honestly. Sheila wanted to be in attendance but my parents said it had nothing to do with her. Sure, my mom would be supporting me but she could easily be swayed. Sheila could stand her ground, especially as she hated Bailey and Bernice.“Don’t be a child, Gianna. This has to do with your marriage.”“What marriage? It’s over already. Or do you think meeting with his family will make me change my mind?” Even if I was reluctant to finalize the divorce, I couldn’t ima
GIANNA~•~When I knocked on the door to my parents’ place, Sheila opened it for me. She squealed when she saw me, wrapping me in a hug. I hugged her back immediately, feeling slightly better already. After a while, she pulled away and stared at me. “You didn’t mention you’d be coming home today.”I shrugged. “Well, here I am.”“I’ve missed you so much.” Sheila and I were only two years apart so we grew up very close. She was bummed when I got married as soon as I graduated but it was nothing either of us could control. “Are you staying for a while?” She questioned, eyeing my bag that was flung over my shoulder.“Until further notice,” I responded as we entered the house and Sheila closed the door behind us.“What? Did you fight with Brandon?”“Who fought with Brandon?” My mom asked, coming out from the kitchen. My mother was a housewife and since she married my father, she never worked for money. She merely focused on managing the house and looking after us. She thought that was the
BRANDON~•~I hated the situation I found myself in.I didn’t necessarily want to divorce Gianna but it was better than staying with each other and fucking people outside our marriage. She kept insisting that she didn’t cheat but the proof was right in my hands. I didn’t even show her the worst of it. The one where her arms were around his neck and he was kissing her while his hands were on her breasts. I almost fainted when I saw that picture and I deleted it immediately, not wanting to keep thinking about it.I wanted to believe her but she didn’t even have a valid explanation. The previous day, she told me she was visiting her parents, but when I called her parents at night to ask if she would be sleeping over there, they said they didn’t see her at all. I was worried all night only for me to get an anonymous text very early in the morning with pictures that Gianna was cheating on me.Granted, it was done by someone that wanted to destroy our marriage but that didn’t make it any le
