GIANNA
~•~ “Aunty Sheila, can we go to the store?” Bella asked my sister but I pretended not to hear her. “The store?” My sister echoed, staring at me as if she wanted me to answer for her. When I didn't, she turned back to her niece. “What do you want to go to the store for?” “Toys!” Oliver yelled. Bella scrunched up her nose cutely. “Toys? Are you a child?” “Aren't you?” Oliver fired back at her. She shook her head with an exaggerated sigh as though she was tired of dealing with him already. I held back a laugh. “I want to get art supplies. I'm bored, aunty.” “If you had toys, you wouldn't be bored.” Oliver interrupted again. “I do have them. I just prefer not to use them. There's a difference.” When Oliver couldn't come up with a retort, he simply stuck his tongue out at her. Despite how much she liked to act like she was mature, she stuck her tongue out in response and they made silly faces at each other until they were tired. I thought after that, Isabella would forget about the store but I was wrong. As soon as she was done with her fight with her brother, she turned back to my sister. “Auntyyyy…” she whined. “Isa baby. I'm down for taking you to the store but we have to check with your mother first.” I gritted my teeth as all three of them turned to look at me, putting me in the spotlight. At first, I just continued using my phone, hoping that would wear them out, but they were persistent. I looked from Sheila to Oliver, and then Isabella. We had been inside all day doing nothing so I didn't blame them for being bored. I let out a sigh. “Fine.” “Yay!” The kids screamed in unison. “But you'll behave outside, okay?” They nodded immediately, promising to be good when we got to the store. I didn't really want to go outside, especially after what happened the last time I was in Los Angeles. What if someone else saw me but this time, they announced my presence on social media? I paused. What exactly was I afraid of? I was the one who was treated badly, not the other way around. I had no reason to hide. With that in mind, all four of us stood up and headed outside. We took Sheila's car and I sat in the passenger's seat while the two little daredevils sat in the backseat. The drive to the store was fast but quite slow for the kids who kept asking when we were going to arrive. They made several comments about how far the store was in Los Angeles, which made me laugh but didn't say anything else about it. As soon as Sheila pulled over at the parking lot, Oliver reached over to open his door. Thankfully, it was on child lock. I undid my seatbelt and turned to him. “You promised to behave.” He smiled sheepishly. “Sorry Mommy.” Sheila and I got out of the car first and opened the door for the kids. We walked hand in hand into the store and Isabella was quick to find the art aisle, dragging us all there. She was fond of drawing and painting at such a young age and I had no intention of stopping her. “Mommy, you should get a handwriting book for Olly,” Isabella said randomly as she picked out what she wanted. Sheila placed a hand over her mouth to stop herself from laughing. Oliver, on the other hand, was offended. “What do you mean? I don't need it.” “You do,” Isabella argued. “Can you even read what you write?” “Mom!” Oliver yelled. “Bella is being mean again.” I rubbed his hair soothingly. “Don't pay attention to her, okay? And Bella, stop being mean to your brother.” Bella merely shrugged, not responding. “She doesn't care.” Oliver continued complaining. “Why don't we go and pick out what you want, hmm?” At my words, he forgot everything he was mad about and suddenly had the biggest smile on his face as he nodded. “Okay, mommy!” What I didn't expect though, was for him to suddenly take off. I let out a hiss as I increased the pace of my steps, trying to keep up with him. I didn't know why I believed him when he said he was going to behave. He never did. “Oliver, wait up!” My words fell on deaf ears as he continued sprinting down the aisle. “Oliver!” I started running after him. I never had a reason to run so I wasn't used to it, but since I gave birth and Oliver started walking, I've had to run a few times. He was a literal menace. He turned to another aisle and I did the same. My eyes went wide when I saw another little girl running as well, heading straight for Oliver. “Oliver Windsor, stop running right now.” Something about my words did it for him and he came to a stop immediately. As for the other child running, she was about to run past me when I held her back, keeping her still. I could see her mother behind her, trying to stop her as well. She had a big smile on her face as I steadied her as if she was doing it on purpose to mess with her mother. She looked back and saw her mother closing on her, making her smile grow even wider. When her mom reached us, she placed her hand on her knee, trying to catch her breath. “Thank you so much.” She raised her head, making both of us pause. No matter how much time passed, I was always going to remember the woman who tried with all her might and succeeded in ruining my marriage. I looked down at the little girl I was still holding. She looked like Oliver’s age mate. She was Brandon’s child. She was literally Oliver’s sister. I let go of her slowly, but the little devil was about to run again so I held her again and handed her over to her mother without saying anything. I walked past them and took Oliver’s hand in mine, not wanting him to run again. We were about to leave when we heard her speak. “What are you doing in LA? From what I know, you left some years ago.” I chuckled, turning around to face her. “Wouldn't you like to know?” “And you have a child?” She looked down at Oliver. “Did you really cheat on Brandon?” I narrowed my eyes on her. “Watch your mouth.” I didn't want her to say anything that would give Oliver the wrong idea. “Mommy, did you find Olly?” I heard a new voice and looked ahead to see Isabella walking toward me with Sheila. Bella’s hand was filled with her supplies, most likely refusing to get a cart because she wanted to carry them herself. “Two kids?” Bailey had her back to Sheila so Sheila couldn't see who was speaking with me. I intended to keep it that way because I didn't trust her to not create a scene. “Mind your business too.” With those words, I pulled Oliver with me and walked toward them so they wouldn't get to see Bailey’s face. “Who was that?” Sheila asked as we reached them. “No one. Let's go get the toys and leave.” Sheila tried to turn her head to see but I placed my free arm around her shoulder and forced her to look ahead. She was still suspicious but I was thankful she dropped it anyway. I wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone from my past.GIANNA~•~I let out a sigh as I checked the caller on my phone. I wasn’t surprised to see that it was my mother calling. Since the day I left Los Angeles, she had been calling every day to know when I would be back.I often used work as an excuse but that would only be able to hold her off for a short period of time, which was why I didn’t answer the call this time. Besides, I was in the process of creating a marketing plan and I had a meeting in the next five minutes. Answering her call would delay my meeting because she wouldn’t hang up until she got her message across. When she called for the second time, I put my phone on silent and kept it face down. I resumed working on my plan and when it was a minute to the meeting, I left my office and went into the conference room. By the time I got there, everyone was already present, including Jack. The chair at the head of the table was reserved for me as always. Jack and I had equal shares in the company but he liked to act like I was h
GIANNA~•~My parents didn’t call me much. The incident with Brandon ruined my relationship with everyone, including them. The only person I went out of my way to see and speak with was my sister. My parents didn’t know much about my life after I left LA. All they knew was that I was alive. They didn’t know that I left LA while I was pregnant. They didn’t know exactly where I lived. I didn’t tell them because I didn’t trust them enough to not tell Brandon and his family. They didn’t know I started up a business. They also didn’t know that I was raising two kids all by myself. My mother and I spoke very rarely because she didn’t like the choice I made to leave everything and start afresh, which was why I was quite surprised when she called me the day after I met Bailey.I didn’t know what Bailey’s relationship with Brandon was like. I didn’t know if she was still close with his family, but I could guess that she was the reason my mom was calling.I was tempted to ignore it but she had
BRANDON~•~Ethan and I shared a glance. He made a face and looked away from me but wasn’t kind enough to excuse us. I didn’t mind though. If Bailey wanted to embarrass herself, she most likely wouldn’t mind doing it in front of my friend. From what I knew, Gianna was keeping a low profile. I’d guessed she was trying to avoid the people she used to know. How did Bailey manage to find out that she was back? Truthfully, I didn’t care how she managed to get that information. I could only hope she didn’t cause trouble with it.“Is that why you’re creating a scene here?”Bailey gasped for reasons known best to her. Then she took a step back. “You’re not surprised.” She said more as a statement than a question. “You knew she cheated on you?”I gritted my teeth. While I had speculated that, it didn’t feel right hearing that come out of Bailey’s mouth, especially since she was one of the reasons Gianna and I got divorced. “What do you mean cheated on me?”She arched an eyebrow, a smug smile t

BRANDON~•~“Mr. Wen said you canceled on him. Don't you know how important meeting him is?”I ran my hand through my hair. I knew the meeting was important but I was also very self-aware. I knew I wouldn't be able to focus on anything during the meeting and that would offend him even more. “I didn't cancel, father. I rescheduled.”“That's the same thing, you brat.”I didn't know how I was still considered a brat at thirty years old but I didn't dare point it out. My father was angry enough as it was. I didn't want to add to it. “What was so important that couldn't be held off for one hour?”I sucked on my bottom lip. I'd admit that I fucked up by rescheduling but that was the only thing I could think of when Ethan walked into my office. I knew it had something to do with Gianna so I quickly rescheduled the meeting I was supposed to be leaving for. If I hadn't, I would have spent the whole time thinking about something else. Gianna's new life.“I'll try my best to make it up to him,
GIANNA~•~“Do you have anything against LA?” Jack walked into my office without knocking.I hissed, not bothering to look up at him. “I could be naked.”Jack scoffed. “You have a bathroom right there. Why would you be naked in the office?”“I knock before I enter yours.”“You don't have to.”“That doesn't matter. Start knocking or I'll start locking my door.”I didn't look up but I could feel him staring at me. “Fine. I'll try to cultivate the habit of knocking before I enter an office that is supposed to be open in the first place.” He relented sarcastically, then paused. “Wait, you distracted me on purpose right?”I didn't respond because it was true.“This makes me even more curious.” He sat on the seat opposite mine. “Is something chasing you in LA? You were always uncomfortable in public and you hurried to come back to San Diego.”“You're overthinking.” I tried to dismiss his suspicions but Jack was smarter than that.“Don't try to gaslight me. If you don't want to tell me, it's
BRANDON~•~Gianna left before I could try to meet up with her. I knew she wasn't going to meet me willingly but I had planned to “accidentally” run into her. However, it seemed like she didn't come back permanently.I knew I had said I wanted to respect her decision by not finding her, but I couldn't help myself anymore, not when she had been so close to me just a few days ago. With enough money, it was easy to find out that she was living in San Diego and once I had found that about her, I wanted to know more. The man in the picture with her happened to be her partner.A few years ago, they had put their ideas and funds together to start up a marketing company, which rose so fast that it was surprising. She wasn't just my ex-wife who used to stay at home all day unless she had a conference to attend. She was now a boss. She co-owned a company with someone else. She was doing so well on her own and I was very proud of her.I was very happy they weren't in a romantic relationship but
BRANDON~•~“Your wife is very fierce.” Ethan said as he joined me at the bar. Since he told me about Gianna’s presence earlier, I hadn't been able to concentrate. It was so bad that Bailey got angry and cut the outing short. After that, I told Ethan to meet me at the club where we could talk properly. He had never met Gianna but he knew all about her. He knew enough that he was able to recognize her at a glance. “You talked with her?” I questioned. There was no reason for him to approach her. “And she's not my wife, she's my ex.”Ethan laughed and beckoned a waiter over. We were in the VIP area and our booth was completely secluded from the rest of the bar. “If only you remember that during your drunken ramblings.”I glared at him as he ordered a drink for himself. The first time we met was at this very bar. It was the day after Gianna left. I'd drank so much that I completely blacked out and the next morning, I found myself at his place. He told me that all I did was talk and cry a
GIANNA~•~“Do you know that man?” Jack questioned, pointing at a table behind me.For a second, I froze, wondering if someone from my past had spotted me already. I hoped not. Slowly, I turned to glance at the table and there was a man staring at me. I didn't know him though. I shook my head at Jack, hoping it wasn't someone that knew that I was married to Brandon at one point in time.Brandon was a very famous businessman so it was possible a lot of people that I didn't know knew me. This was why I didn't want to come out to eat but Jack insisted and turning him down would be weird. Oliver and Isabella were with Stella at the Airbnb so we had time to talk about business.“Why does he keep staring at you then?”“How would I know?” I shrugged. “Maybe he's a creep.” I dismissed it, not wanting Jack to ask more questions about it.I hadn't told him anything about my past or about the father of my kids. I also didn't want to blatantly lie to him. I preferred to avoid the situation. “How
