“What was that?!” He asked and then reached for the note while I stood there, completely frozen.

It was already too late to hide it, so I didn’t bother trying. That would only raise more suspicion and add to the questions he’d have for me once he sees the content of the note.

He was about to take the note from me when his phone suddenly started to ring.

“A second please,” he said and then turned around while I just stood there, still not reacting.

He picked off his phone from the table and then disappeared into the closet. I finally let out a deep sigh as relief washed over me. I didn’t even care to know who was on the phone. If anything, I was grateful to the person for being right on time.

It wasn’t up to ten seconds before he came back, but I had already kept the note and replaced it with a blank one in case he still asks.

“It was our driver trying to confirm the time he’d come over. I gave him an hour. We should be done by then, right?” He let out while I nodded.
