I heard close voices that seemed to come from afar, which I recognized with great difficulty.

I gasped like I was drowning when I felt my weak body moving with outward force, a hand encircling my shoulder and pulling me to the left.

I slowly opened my eyelids, and I saw up close the sullen face of Alexander, roaring sharply, "Stay away from her, you bastard, and don't think about touching her again."

My head automatically rested on his shoulder. I narrowed my eyebrows in astonishment, and my exploring gaze wandered around the place. I found myself in the same carriage that took us to the palace of Shekar, the leader of the Kingdom of Atlantis.

I closed my eyes again vigorously, trying to remember recent events, but there was nothing in my mind, as if I had temporary amnesia.
