MasukThe king walked in and met me on the ground. "What's going on here?"
"Father, Ophelia and her mom should face severe punishment for deceiving the entire pack," Asher replied.
"Yes, punish them," the pack agreed.
"They've been manipulating us all this while, claiming Ophelia tamed my curse, but it was Lilian who did.""What? What is the proof of your accusation?"
"Father, Lilian here overheard them saying they were going to take over the throne. Her mother wants the throne, so she is using her daughter." "Is this true?" The king turned to Lilian.I could see the fear in her eyes and was sure her mom had told her to lie.
She was good at manipulating people.
"Yes, my king," she lied through her teeth, and I wished she would bite her tongue.Asher clapped his hands, and a cage was brought forward.
Inside was my mom.My heart broke into a thousand crumbs after all the sacrifices my mom made for the pack, defeating countless wars against other packs and dark forces.
Is this how the pack repays her?My mom sat in the cage, she had shifted to wolf form.
Her deep blue eyes now held tears as she looked at me lying on the floor.
She whimpered, dragging herself from all angles.
The look on her face showed that of a desperate mother. If she could free herself, she would tear down the entire pack just to save me.
Purple lines began showing on my neck, but no one paid attention. The king sat quietly as if he didn't know my mother.
Ungrateful people, I lay there helpless, I heard my mother's wolf whimpering helplessly I know if she wasn't chained, she would have tear the entire pack down to safe me, if only the moon goddess gave me another chance to go back in time I'll correct all of my mistakes.
After all these years of trusting Lilian, stepmom, and my dad, this was what I got in return , betrayal dressed up as grief.
"Asher, please, give me a chance to prove myself, I tamed your curse not lilian" I begged, crawling toward him.
My wolf was too weak to fight. My body wouldn't cooperate.
"You fool. You are nothing to me. You don't deserve my empathy," he said, each word landing like a blow. Then he turned to Lillian and pulled her against his waist, cradling her like she was the only thing that mattered in the world.
"You are the one who deserves this position my love. No one else."
He actually called her his love, my mother and I have been nothing but a tool for this pack."My Lord, no, I don't think...."
"Shh." He pressed a finger to her lips, silencing her mid-sentence.
My chest burned with a rage so sharp I could have torn her apart with my bare hands.
She and her mother, playing the victims without an ounce of shame.
I clenched my fists until my nails bit into my palms. No, no, no, Ophelia, do something, my wolf cried out, weak and afraid.
"Daddy," I called, my voice breaking. "Why do you just stand there and watch your daughter suffer?"
"Ophelia, you and your mother brought this on yourselves. I can't go against the King's judgment," he said coldly, not even meeting my eyes
"You know the truth," I said. The crowd gasped in shock at my words.
"You ungrateful child. How dare you accuse me, are you trying to drag me into the mess you created?" he snapped.
"Pathetic. How can she be so selfish?" someone muttered from the crowd, and the words spread like wildfire, whispers and mockery came from every direction.
Then a glow rose from the center of the hall.
I managed to lift up my head to look, it was Asher. His eyes lit up, gold burning through them, and a wave of wind swept through the crowd, scattering cloaks and hair.
A fierce, hungry passion blazed in his gaze as he pulled Lillian close and marked her ... right in front of me.
I died ten times in that single second.
My whole body went numb, and the entire hall fell into a stunned silence.
He kissed her passionately in front of everyone, something he had never once done to me.
I have waited and longed for that kiss for a long time, but here he was serving it to my sister, as if he's been waiting for it his whole life.He hadn't even glanced at me when he'd marked me, all those months ago.
I had thought he simply needed time. I never imagined he didn't want me at all.
"Take this greedy bitch to the dungeon. Keep her there until I decide her punishment" he ordered.“Ash…Asher please” I tried to speak, forcing my voice until I could barely hear it.
The guards dragged me away.
I was too weak to even walk, my legs dragging uselessly against the stone floor as purple veins spread across my skin like cracks in porcelain.
"Call the doctor, she's been poisoned!" I heard my mother scream at the top of her lungs.
"If she dies, I will tear this entire pack down!" she swore, thrashing against her chains, but her powers had been suppressed.
She could do nothing but shift, sobbing uncontrollably, her cries echoing down the corridor long after they'd dragged me out of sight.
My mind screamed the moment I realized what had just come out of my mouth.I'd just thrown myself into a pot of trouble I couldn't see the bottom of.What if he's not the man from my dream? What if he really is as dangerous as everyone says? But that dangerous man just saved you. I thoughtHis voice ... it's exactly like the man in your dreams. The smell. The body. The height.I'm sure.No. I can't be that sure."Is she out of her damn mind?" someone muttered from the hall."Does she even know who she just invited into her life?""Ophelia, you're fine, my child," my mother said, pulling me into a tight hug. "I'm glad you finally freed yourself from him.""Please, Ophelia, don't mind my foolish son. Remember ... the Moon Goddess chose the two of you," the king cried out.I recognized those tears. He wasn't crying for me. He was crying for the throne he was about to lose to his own brother."What game are you playing, Magnus?" he turned, snapping at the man sitting quietly nearby,
"Let me…." I heard Asher struggling to move, frozen in place by Dickson's hold. The whole pack stood still. Calm. No one dared utter a word.He sat down on a chair and laid me carefully across his lap, feeding me the herb with steady hands. The moment it dropped into my stomach, my chest jolted upward. My eyes sparked ... shining gold-brown ... and I stretched, and kept stretching, as the herb moved through my body like fire finding its way through my veins. My mouth parted, gasping for air I hadn't known I needed. Then a wave of wind swept through the room, powerful enough to force every knee to bend. It moved like a tornado, golden light flashing across the hall as my body lifted away from him, floating upward, suspended in the air as though I controlled the wind and gravity itself. The entire pack gasped in shock. Jaws dropped. My hair flew loose around me, wild, exactly like the stories I used to hear as a child ... the ones about goddesses and magic and things too powerful
The hall fell still the moment they heard heels clicking down the stairs. My steps moved slow, deliberate. When I reached the last stair, dizziness hit me out of nowhere ... my vision spun, and my mom caught my arm, steadying me. I looked down at my palms, my wrists. Purple lines had bloomed beneath the skin. My heart pounded. "Poison," I whispered under my breath. I didn't have time to look into their faces to see their reaction over my dress. what is this? How? I hadn't taken anything since morning. Could it be the bath? No ... no way. Eva, my most trusted maid, would never betray me. Sweat beaded on my forehead. "Are you okay?" my mom asked. "I'll be fine, Mom. Don't worry," I answered. My whole body was weakening, and my wolf wasn't responding at all. Whatever this was, they'd doubled the dose. Pure dark magic ... forbidden in the Moonclips pack. Anyone caught using it faced the death penalty. My pulse ached. I managed to sit, tense, watching
I woke up to Lilian standing over my head. I flinched at the sight of her staring down at me. I won't pretend I didn't see that creepy look on her face. "What are you doing in my room?" I asked. "Have you forgotten? I'm here to serve you. Don't tell me you don't know today is your wedding to Asher." "You could've at least waited for me to wake up first." "Sorry, sis. It's 7 a.m. already, and your wedding starts at 9. No time. I've prepared a warm bath for you." "Okay. You may leave. I'll send for you later." "What?" "You heard me." "Look, I know you're mad about…." I rolled my eyes. Was she seriously going to bring that up again, even knowing it would only piss me off? Her tactic to get under my skin. Not happening. "No need, Lilian. Just go." "Okay. This is the dress mother prepared for you. Hope you like it." I didn't answer, just stared at it. I already knew what it was …. the same dress they'd given me in my past life. The moment she closed the door behind her
I Can't resist him. I turned slowly, unsure of what awaited me. My heart pounded, my chest rising and falling, and I didn't dare lift my head at first. My eyes landed on his legs … boots, laced tight, his trousers tucked neatly into them. He's not a beast. Just a man, I thought. We'd met in the past in a dark room, somewhere I couldn't make out a single detail about him. So why choose somewhere this bright now? Not just bright… but making it romantic. My eyes moved slowly, deliberately upward. His chest was wide. His belt sat low on his waist, and he wore no shirt at all. Damn. I thought. Just a cloak slung over broad shoulders, his abs cut clean beneath it. That alone was enough to make me want to lay my head against them, to kiss along the line of them. I swallowed hard at the thought of myself curled into his arms. “He's so hot”. I've never felt this insanely attracted to any man before. "My God. Succulent," I whispered, the moment my eyes rea
I opened my eyes on a bed I didn't recognize. I remembered coming back from the pre-wedding banquet, furious, falling asleep almost the moment my head hit the pillow. Where was I?I jolted upright. The bed was dressed in white sheets, red roses scattered across it like something out of a dream I hadn't asked for. My hands trembled faintly. The room smelled incredible ... rich, warm, intoxicating ... enough that I found myself tempted to lift one of the roses and breathe it in.I lowered my feet to the floor, sitting up slowly. The room was enormous. Marble floors. Beautiful in a way that felt deliberate. And immediately, I noticed ... this wasn't Asher's room, nor mine."Hello? Is anyone here?" I called out, my voice trembling. Maybe this was just another trap the curse was setting for me.Where's the man, I thought.I wandered the room, drawn in despite myself by the paintings lining the walls. This time, I wasn't fighting it. I'd seen enough, taken enough from Asher ... I
