Chapter 4: Tomorrow

“And I promise,” Alexander said quietly, “you will regret lying to me.”

The room went silent as Amelia stared at him.

Was he serious?

He looked at her like she had personally ruined his life or Like she had schemed her way into his family.

Into his money.

Into him.

The unfairness burned her more than she would have liked to admit.

“I didn’t lie,” she said quietly.

Alexander let out a short laugh. It was Cold and disbelieving Disbelieving.

“Really?”

He took one slow step toward her.

“Then explain this.” He lifted the engagement file. “Because the woman I agreed to marry suddenly disappeared and somehow” his eyes dragged over her face “you appeared.”

The humiliation hit hard and Before Amelia could speak,Richard stepped forward.

“Mr. Sterling, please,” he said quickly. “The situation is complicated.”

Alexander finally looked at him.

“No,” he said flatly. “It’s actually very simple.”

His voice turned colder.

“You promised me one daughter.”

He looked back at Amelia.

“But sent another.”

Nobody dared spoke.

At the head of the table, the Sterling patriarch calmly set down his glass.

“The issue now,” he said, “is not what happened.”

His sharp eyes moved between both families.

“It is how we handle it.”

Richard straightened instantly.

“Yes. Exactly.”

Amelia turned to him so fast she nearly fell.

He was agreeing?Just like that? She had never encountered such situation in her life before to prepare her enough for the betrayal she was currently experiencing.

“Dad,” she said quietly, “tell them.”

Richard stiffened.

Her chest tightened with each delayed breath.

Just Tell them.Tell them she never agreed.

Tell them Sophia ran away.

Tell them she was forced into this.

But instead He avoided her eyes.

“The Hart family still intends to honor the alliance.”

Something inside Amelia dropped Painfully.

“What?” she whispered.

Richard finally looked at her.

His voice lowered.

“Don’t do this.”

Don’t do this?

She almost screamed.

“You’re sacrificing me!”

“Lower your voice,” he hissed.

“No!”

The word echoed louder than expected.

Everyone looked at her.

But Amelia no longer cared. She wasn’t going to stand there and watch her life being signed away without putting so much as a fight.

“You all decided my future without asking me!”

Her voice cracked.

“You let Sophia walk away, and suddenly I’m supposed to clean up the mess?”

Sophia.

The name alone darkened Alexander’s expression.

“So she ran,” he said coldly.

Richard quickly shook his head.

“No, no…it’s not like that..”

“She panicked,” Amelia cut in bitterly. “Because apparently I’m the disposable daughter.”

“Amelia!” Richard snapped.

But the damage was done as the Silence stretched.

Alexander’s jaw tightened.

Something unreadable crossed his face.

But then again….

“You expect sympathy?” he asked coolly.

Amelia looked at him in disbelief.

“I expect basic human decency.”

A dangerous pause followed.

Then he said “Yet You still showed up.”

The words landed hard and Her throat tightened.

Of course,To him, that proved guilt. That proved that she wanted this. His Money,Status,His name.

“I had nowhere else to go,” she whispered.

For a second Something flickered in his expression but it was Gone too quickly as it came to fully understand.

Then the Sterling patriarch spoke again.

“Enough.”

His tone carried finality.

“The engagement has already been circulated publicly.”

Richard nodded immediately.

“The media knows and The board knows,” the older man added.

“And the Sterling family does not entertain scandal.”

Amelia felt trapped like Actually trapped. No one was asking what she wanted. No one cared. It felt like she was being trafficked or auctioned to the highest bidder.

Her entire life was being discussed like some business arrangement.

“I’m not marrying him,” she said suddenly.

The room stilled.

Alexander looked amused.

“Too late.”

Her pulse spiked.

“No,” she said, louder this time. “You can’t force me.”

“Can’t we?” Richard said sharply.

Amelia turned toward him slowly. The betrayal hurt more than the slap.

“You’d really choose this over me?”

His jaw hardened.

“I’m choosing survival.”

God.That hurt too deeply to ever forgive him for.

Alexander suddenly spoke.

“You’re dramatic.”

Amelia turned to him instantly.

“Excuse me?”

“You arrived. Stayed.” His voice remained calm. “And now suddenly you’re resisting?”

Anger surged through her chest.

“You think I wanted any of this?”

“Yes.”

His answer came instantly with No hesitation and No mercy.

Her laugh came out broken.

“Wow.”

Alexander’s expression didn’t move.

“I don’t like manipulation.”

“And I don’t like arrogant men,” Amelia shot back.

Richard nearly choked.

The room froze and Even the eavesdropping servants looked horrified.

Nobody and absolutely Nobody ever spoke to Alexander Sterling like that.

Something dangerous flashed in his gray eyes.

And then unexpected he smirked.

It was Small and barely noticeable but it was Humorless.

“Interesting.”

The Sterling patriarch sighed.

“This childish argument changes nothing.”

He looked toward the butler.

“Start with the Preparation of the wedding.”

Amelia’s heart dropped.

“What?”

“The ceremony will happen in three days.”

“Three—?”

“No,” Amelia said immediately. “Absolutely not.”

Then Alexander spoke.

“No!”

The room turned toward him and Even Amelia blinked.

For one stupid second she thought he was finally seeing reasoning to this whole situation and Hope rose.

Until he looked directly at her.

“Three days is unnecessary.”

“Move it to tomorrow.”

Dead silence rang around the room and Amelia almost stopped breathing.

Tomorrow?

Tomorrow?!

Her voice came out weak.

“You can’t be serious…”

Alexander buttoned his suit jacket with Expression blank.

“I don’t like unfinished business.”

Then his eyes locked onto hers.

Cold enough to freeze blood and make the entire room hold its breath.

“And the sooner this mistake is fixed…”

“…the sooner I can get rid of you.”

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The distance between them

Morning arrived beneath a sky blanketed with gray clouds. The rain that had threatened all night finally began to fall, leaving the gardens of Sterling Manor glistening beneath a veil of mist. Alexander had been awake for hours yet the documents on his desk remained untouched. The brown investigation file Ethan had delivered the previous afternoon still lay open before him. And its contents had refused to leave his mind. Every phone record. Every email. Every unanswered request. Not one had Amelia's name attached to it. And that fact alone just made his certainty had begin to crack. He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes as one memory after another surfaced. The wedding day. Amelia had stood before him in silence while he accused her of deception. She hadn't argued or thrown her weight around and instead she had simply accepted every harsh word. Another memory followed. The Foundation. She had spent entire afternoons organizing reports beside Eleanor without on

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The woman he never believed

Amelia didn't sleep immediately as the conversation outside Alexander's study replayed in her mind over and over again. "Enough to settle their immediate debts. There is no need to inform Mrs. Sterling." She had spent weeks trying to prove she wasn't like the family she came from. She had never even asked Alexander for money or used his name. And neither had she even hinted that he owed the Harts anything. Yet in the end..He had decided for her because he believed she wanted exactly what she had refused. And the realization hurt more than she cared to admit. The following days flew by fast into weeks and on one peculiar morning she decided that was it. The sterling Manor was unusually quiet and sunlight poured through the tall windows as servants moved silently through the corridors. Amelia stood inside her dressing room, staring at the black bank card resting in her palm that Alexander had given to her shortly after the wedding. "Use it whenever you need something." She had

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The price of silence

The silence between Amelia and Alexander followed them into the days following. They had both decided against reaching out to the other to clear the misunderstandings and it progressively seemed it wasn't the ordinary silence they had grown accustomed to. This one felt heavier and colder as though a door had quietly closed between them during the day it had happened. Amelia barely slept as she kept on replaying the conversation with her parents countless times. Then Alexander's final words. "I knew this marriage had a price." The accusation lingered like a bruise she couldn't touch. Breakfast was served at precisely eight. Alexander was already seated when Amelia entered the dining room with a newspaper which laid unfolded beside his coffee. He didn't look up despite already sensing her presence. She hesitated before taking her seat across from him. "Good morning." He only responded with a brief nod and nothing more. The butler who had seemingly observed the interaction betwe

  • My sisters groom became my husband   A gift she never wanted

The morning after the Sterling business dinner passed quietly. And the Sterling Manor had returned to its usual rhythm. Servants moved efficiently through the hallways, breakfast was served precisely on time, and Alexander had already left for Sterling Group before Amelia came downstairs. The previous evening still lingered in her thoughts as it had refused to go away. Funnily it wasn’t just because of the compliments or because of the whispers. Rather it was because of the drive home. "It wasn't for you." The words still echoed in her ears and as she had expected, they still hurt. After breakfast, Amelia joined Eleanor in the study.Stacks of Foundation reports covered the large mahogany desk. "I've finished organizing the scholarship proposals," Amelia said, handing over a folder. Eleanor adjusted her glasses before accepting it. "I noticed. And dare I say you’ve become even more efficient." A faint smile crossed Amelia's face as she felt her cheeks coloring rapidly. "I'm

  • My sisters groom became my husband   Behind the mask

The emerald gown fit Amelia better than she had expected. Its rich green fabric flowed gracefully to the floor, elegant without being extravagant. The fitted bodice and delicate sleeves gave her an air of quiet sophistication, while the subtle embroidery at the waist reflected the understated luxury the Sterling family was known for.She stood before the mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at her.It wasn’t because she looked different but instead because she looked like she belonged in a world that had never wanted her.A maid carefully fastened the final clasp of the necklace Eleanor had selected."There," she said with a warm smile. "Madam Eleanor has wonderful taste."Amelia managed a polite smile back at the maid."I only hope I don't disappoint her.""You won't."The maid stepped back to admire her."You look every bit Mrs. Sterling. And anyone with good eyes would see it too."The words lingered long after the maid left.Mrs. Sterling.Even now, the title felt unf

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The patriarch’s request

The morning after the family dinner felt quiet. The Sterling Manor was usually alive with the sound of staff preparing breakfast but today…Even the servants spoke in hushed voices. The disturbing news of Richard Sterling’s collapse had spread throughout the estate and no one dared said it aloud. But everyone understood what it meant. If the patriarch’s health continued to decline…The balance of power inside the Sterling family would change.Amelia had just finished breakfast when the head butler approached her.“Mrs. Sterling.”She looked up.“Yes?”“Mr. Richard Sterling would like to see you.”She blinked in surprise as the color s embed to drain completely from her face.“Me?”“Immediately.”Richard’s private sitting room overlooked the eastern gardens so when Amelia entered, she found him seated beside the window, a blanket draped over his knees. He looked older than he had during the wedding. And worse even more tired. But the sharpness in his eyes remained forever present there.

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The wrong bride

Chapter 8 — The Wrong Bride"Who are you talking to?"The room fell silent as Amelia's heart slammed against her ribs.Alexander stood in the doorway, his dark eyes fixed on the phone in her trembling hand yet The anger in his expression wasn't loud.It was worse than the type he usually portrayed.

  • My sisters groom became my husband   No escape

Chapter 7 — No EscapeAmelia didn't fight anymore as the guards escorted her down another corridor, away from the grand staircase and away from the room she had been given earlier. It was obvious they had been asked to keep her Away from every window and Away from every exit. The realization settled

  • My sisters groom became my husband   The dress that wasn’t hers

Chapter 6 — The Dress That Wasn’t HersThe voice behind Amelia was calm. It flowed easily like that of a serene monk. She turned slowly, still feeling the weight of Alexander’s presence lingering somewhere behind her like a shadow that she couldn’t shake off.Standing a few steps away from her was

  • My sisters groom became my husband   No way out

Chapter 5: No Way Out“The sooner I can get rid of you.”The words hit Amelia like a slap and For a second, she just stared at Alexander. Then something inside her snapped.“Then don’t marry me!”The entire hall froze and Richard looked horrified.“Amelia!”“No!” she said, voice shaking. “You don’t
