LUCIEN

Olivia James, who is now standing in my office, does not look like she came here for a business meeting. Her floor-length red dress and excessive makeup belonged to someone who was going to a cocktail party and not the board. The dress exposed enough cleavage; it was safe to say she did it to get some kind of attention. Her hair was done extravagantly.

"Very lovely to make your acquaintance." She stretched her hand to me in a coy manner as she leaned forward, the table separating us.

"The pleasure is all mine," I say, taking her hand. I try to take my hand out of hers, but she hangs onto it for a moment longer than necessary before I yank my hand out of hers forcefully.

"Oh," she let out a small giggle as she pointed to the sofa behind her. "Shall we sit and discuss?" She asked, and I shook my head.

"You are here for a business meeting, aren't you?" I ask for emphasis on the word 'business' so she does not lose track of herself and get lost in the moment.

"Of course I am.

Okay, can we all agree Olivia in full cocktail glam was peak audacity? She strolls into the chairman’s office like it’s a runway and tries to sell herself as an asset. Girl, this is a board meeting — not a VIP lounge. Lucien handled it the way any emotionally stable titan would: polite, unbothered, and repeatedly vocal about one inconvenient fact for her—he has a wife. Meanwhile, Noah is there internally combusting like a rookie who just witnessed the CEO doing emotional push-ups. The best part? Lucien didn’t need to be rude to shut the show down; his boundaries did the work. So tell me: would you play along to extract intel, or would you shut her down immediately like Lucien? Vote now — I need receipts.

LUCIEN"See, it's not that bad to sit without your wife," Olivia said as I lowered myself into the seat."It is that bad.""Mr Vexley, are you a simp?" She asked, making everyone at the table look at me. Was she trying to make this a bad thing? Why? So she could use that as an entry point?"Of course, it's my wife, and if I am not a simp to her, then who?" I ask, raising my eyebrow in question."Oh my goodness!" one of the older couples on our table said. "I wish all of our husbands were like that.""I know, right?" the other woman added as she turned her nose up to the man sitting beside her. "All they know is to take care of themselves.""Mr Vexley, it is an honour to be seated at the same table as you are," the husband of the first woman said, stretching his hand to me. "I am Mr Stone of Stones and Bricks, and this is my lovely wife, Anna Stone," he said, motioning to the older woman."Mr Vexley, I commend you," she said with a thumbs up in my direction. I did not know what to make

  • NIRELLE   QUEEN OF QUIET

NIRELLEThe party started as a normal one should. The host announced that Cassian had to come onstage to give a speech. I zoned out because not only was I not interested, but I also did not want to have to listen to him lie over and over again for no reason. About how good the technology was and how they had spent years trying to perfect it, when all they had done was force an intern to sign away his patent rights to them with a measly sum.The intern, who was a student, did not think that his technology was good enough, and so when the Wolfe family offered him much for his little, he was quick to sign the papers even though it was extremely disadvantageous to him."I do not want to cause trouble with them," he had said to Zane when he wanted to meet him. "I have money now; that should be okay," he added with a smile. Should it be okay that money was involved, even though an idea was completely stolen and taken without them thinking about it twice?Whatever Cassian was saying must hav

  • NIRELLE   AT THE FAMILY TABLE

NIRELLELucien's thunderings did not seem to faze the girl. She only bowed with her lips tight and her face straight. It was almost as if she had been trained for this exact scenario. They knew what was going to happen, yet they still went ahead with it. "I am sorry, sir, but I can't do that."I couldn't believe the nerve of those people. With Lucien on the verge of losing his temper and the poor girl, people were already whispering, and maybe they anticipated this; maybe this was really what they wanted. I tug on his hand, and he looks at me."I am sure there is nothing she can do." I hope he agrees with me. My words seem to calm him down. He shakes his head but says nothing, and I let out a sigh of relief. "Let us just sit separately for now.""But...""It would be just a few hours," I say, cutting him off, still trying to let the smile stay on my face. I was extremely angry at what was going on, but I wanted them all to think I was nothing but a doll; the more they underestimated

  • NIRELLE   THE SINISTER SMIRK

NIRELLE"You both should go in first," Theo said as we stopped at the entrance of the hall. From the outside and all of the cars and people lined up at the entrance, it was pretty obvious that the Wolfes had tried for this to be a perfect event. The kind that the media would talk about for years to come."Why don't you want to come with us?" I asked. "We can go in together.""No, no, go on in; we will meet you inside," Theo added, holding Zane back before he could agree."Do not forget the plan has to go smoothly," Luicen said. I had thought he was going to try to convince them that they had to come in with us, but it seemed he was more bothered about other things in the end."Aye aye, captain," both men saluted as the door opened and Lucien stepped out before stretching his hand to me. I took it, and soon we were standing hand in hand. The limo zoomed from behind us, and a staff member was ready to greet and direct us up the magnificent stairs into the hall."Mr and Mrs Vexley, I wou

  • NIRELLE   DRESS FOR A TRAP

NIRELLE"See what came in the mail."It is finally a Saturday since Lucien started working, and despite how crazy it has all been, I was grateful now that we were all able to lie back in the house. I was currently reading a book while swinging back and forth from the swing set in the garden, while Lucien was hunched over a laptop typing speedily. We both look up to Theo, who came to stand near Lucien, dropping the small envelope next to him."What is that?" Lucien asked, his eyes going back to the laptop screen."Your first formal event" Theo sounded like a high schooler who had gotten a response from his crush. "You both do not sound excited to hear that," he added when he realised we weren't as happy as he wanted us to be."What is the big deal?" I muttered because I had seen one too many of those kinds of parties happen around me. The one that my parents had thrown for me twice was not really my cup of tea."Right, what is the big deal?" Lucien echoed my thoughts and raised his hea
