NELSON

Everything feels heavy. My body, my mind—even something as simple as opening my eyes feels like a struggle. But slowly, I manage to lift my eyelids. And now, I see a blurry image of a woman crying, but there’s a smile on her lips as she looks at me.

My gaze drifts around the room I’m in, and just from the sterile smell and the setup, I know—I’m in a hospital.

Moments later, a doctor walks in with a few nurses. I don’t know how long I’ve been here, but judging from the relief and joy on their faces, I get the sense that I’ve been unconscious for quite some time.

The doctor starts asking me questions—something about an accident. And yes, I remember… I remember the accident, but the details are hazy.

Aside from the blurred memory of the crash, there’s this strange emptiness in my mind—like something important is missing, and I can’t quite figure out what.

I blink repeatedly, trying to focus, but I can’t help glancing at the woman who’s still looking at me. She hasn’t said a word,

Along with the gentle sound of my name came a tight embrace from behind—a hug so firm, it felt exactly like the one Diego had given me before. The same hug he gave me back in high school. The kind that said, This is it. You won’t see me again. Was he really leaving me? Was he actually going to take my words to heart and disappear for good?“Diego…” I tried to pry his arms from my waist, but his grip only tightened.“Vi, do you really not love me? Don’t you like me? Can you honestly bear never seeing me again?” His voice was rough, almost breaking.I didn’t know what to say. Deep down, I knew—I felt—that I wanted him again. That I loved him again. I didn’t even know how it happened, or why my feelings came rushing back so quickly. Maybe they’d never truly gone, just buried beneath the anger at his sudden disappearance… and under Romeo’s shadow.I closed my eyes as fresh tears slid down my cheeks, my sobs trapped in my throat.“Diego… I’m sorry, but I don’t love you. So please… just go.

The two men’s laughter echoed behind me as they followed. Diego was no longer afraid of the sea squirts; in fact, he couldn’t stop giggling at the sight of them.“Vi, wait for us!” Diego called out between laughs. I ignored him completely. Flirting with someone else earlier, and now he’s tailing me?“What’s your problem, Diego?” I snapped, elbowing him in the stomach when he suddenly slung an arm over my shoulders.“Why are you so grumpy?” he asked in a pained but teasing tone, rubbing his stomach. Even hurt, he still had the nerve to smile and pinch my cheek.“Want another elbow?” I warned. He shook his head. “Go handle that task I gave you!”He nodded eagerly, still grinning, while I kept snapping at him.“Oh… so you went diving without even inviting me?” Dorry cut in, feigning outrage.“Hi, Dorry!” Diego butted in, grinning like a madman.“What are you doing here?! And where’s that pout you were wearing earlier?” Dorry demanded, flicking him on the forehead.“Pout? I could barely f

VIANNA MAY – POV“Mia, are you okay?” Dorry asked with concern, patting my back.“Of course! Why wouldn’t I be?” I replied nonchalantly, forcing a laugh that came out more like a snort.“It’s just… you suddenly walked off the moment you saw what happened earlier. Are you sure you’re okay?”“Dorry, seriously?!” I scoffed. “I didn’t leave because of what we saw. I just didn’t want to interrupt their moment.” I denied it with all my might, though I was already fuming inside.“I wish we never came here! Then we wouldn’t have seen that! Ugh, that Diego. Says he loves you, but has his arms around another woman!” she grumbled. “And you’re telling me that didn’t bother you at all, Mia? If it were me, I’d have dragged that woman straight into the ocean!”“Calm down, Dorry! Our friend’s single, you know. He’s free to flirt with whoever he wants.”And flirt he did. That idiot—acting all teary-eyed before, only to cozy up with someone else. I could just flick him right in the—ugh. He’d better not

DIEGOA loud scream jolted me awake—then came the painful thud of my body hitting the floor. For a second, I swore my soul left my body. All thanks to Vianna May’s nuclear-powered kick.“Ow…” I groaned, rubbing my hip. “Vi, seriously? You’re a woman—why do you enjoy beating me up so much?”I stayed on the floor, weighing whether it was worth getting up. But then I saw her glare—sharp enough to slice through steel. That glare said, Get up or die. So I got up. Slowly.“Enjoy hurting people? You idiot!” she snapped. “I trusted you not to do anything stupid!” She jabbed her finger at me so hard it’s a miracle it didn’t pierce my chest.I rubbed my face. Yeah, I was an idiot. Last night I’d taken advantage of her deep sleep and done… well, what I wanted.“What did you do to me?!” she demanded, practically breathing fire. And maybe a bit of spit.I just stood there, letting her poke me like some human voodoo doll.“Come on, Vi! What do you think I am—some lust-crazed animal? I didn’t do a

“Are you out of your mind, Diego?!” My voice rose, but the worry in my tone was impossible to hide. I remembered the night he got drunk—what if he did it again?“I’ve been out of my mind for a long time!” he shot back, running a hand over his face. “I’m exhausted, Vi! I’ve had enough. All I ever did was love you. I’ve done everything I could, but it’s still not enough. It hurts—so damn much. You don’t even want me as a friend anymore!”“Diego… I never said I didn’t want to be your friend. I just don’t want to—”“Stop it, Vi. Just stop!” He cut me off, and I bit my lip hard. “I know where this is going—you’re just trying to push me away.”I sighed, stepped closer, gripped his arm, and fixed my eyes on him. But he wouldn’t meet my gaze. “Diego, just listen to me. Please… leave.”He glanced at me, nodded, then headed for the door and walked out—without a word.I closed my eyes as the door clicked shut. Slowly, I made my way to the bed and sat down. I buried my face in my hands and let

DIEGO POV I couldn’t stop apologizing to Vianna May. I never thought that simply approaching her would cause her so much pain. All I wanted was to be near her, to talk to her—even for just a little while. If I had known that would happen on the last night we’d see each other, I wish I’d never gone near her. I wish I hadn’t even said goodbye. I should have just disappeared—like I did before.“Diego…” Dorry’s calm voice carried traces of a suppressed sob. She placed a hand on my shoulder and gave it a light shake. I kept my head bowed, unable to meet her eyes. She let go of my shoulder and turned to Vianna May. “Come on, Mia. Let’s go back to the hut,” she said, helping her up. “Diego, let’s go…” “You two go ahead,” I replied weakly, trying to steady myself even though my heart felt like it was breaking apart. I wiped my tears but kept my head down.Even after Dorry and Vianna May had left, I still couldn’t move. It felt like I’d just lost a fight—drained, weak, unable to stand. A
