HANNAH

The door slammed open so hard it hit the wall with a crack.

“Hannah!”

Before I could even turn, Nico ripped me away from Sydney. His hands clamped around my arms, dragging me back.

I thrashed and reached for Sydney as she crumpled to the floor. She was coughing and clutching her neck.

Look at her. Acting like she’s the victim here.

She’s not. She’s a monster! She’s the reason my baby’s gone. And now she wants everyone to feel sorry for her?

Pathetic.

“You bitch!” I screamed at her. “You killed my baby!”

Nico shoved me back. “What the hell are you doing?” he barked.

“She killed my baby, Nico! And your mother helped her!”

His grip tightened. “Listen to yourself! You’ve lost it!”

“I know what I’m saying! Sydney poisoned me! Veronica was in on it! That’s why I lost the baby!” I yelled.

Sydney coughed and laughed hoarsely from the floor. “She’s insane, Nico.”

I twisted in his hold. “Shut your mouth! You don’t get to say anything!”

Nico yanked me back. “How could you turn into this?”

DAVIDI had already had Hannah’s parents moved into one of my private properties. Hannah was inside with her parents. They were resting. Stable and alive. I’d done what I said I would.I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the screen. Nico Mancini.Of course. Took him long enough.I picked up. “Hello?”“What the fuck did you do?” he shouted. “Did you take her? Is Hannah with you?”I smirked. “Wow. You sound stressed, Mancini. You’re telling me you don’t even know where your own wife is?”“You’re playing a dangerous game.”“And you’re playing husband of the year?” I let out a short laugh. “Come on. We both know you don’t deserve her.”“Stay out of this,” he growled. “I’m warning you.”“Oh, you’re warning me?” I scoffed. “Alright. Can’t wait to see what you’re gonna do about it.”Before he could throw more threats my way, I hung up. I wasn’t in the mood to listen to a tantrum. Let him stew.**********************************The house I had secured wasn’t massive. But it was cl

NICOI was in the middle of a meeting… but all I could think about was Hannah.Correction: I was supposed to be in a meeting. Some quarterly review with our finance team. 、All those numbers and projections just turned into noise. I was nodding like I gave a shit. In reality, I thought about what I saw at the sanatorium. David Vanderbilt. He was standing at the entrance like he owned the place.I mean, technically, he did. When I got the building’s paperwork sent to my office, there it was in black and white. The sanatorium was under a shell company owned by Vanderbilt Holdings. The same bastard who’d been sniffing around Hannah before. It pissed me off more than it should have.I saw David and the director talking… Was it about Hannah? If so, what the hell did David want with my wife? I tried to tell myself I was being paranoid. Last time I thought he was up to something. I checked the hotel’s security tapes. Sure enough, David had actually helped Hannah.Still, I wasn’t buying t

HANNAHI couldn’t believe it. I was sitting in a car with David Vanderbilt. Not strapped down. Definitely not sedated. I was almost afraid to blink in case this was some elaborate dream.David kept his eyes on the road. “I still feel like this isn’t real,” I finally said.“Well, it is,” he said. “Believe it.”I looked over at him. Of all people, David came to get me out of there. Not once did he rub it in my face. Maybe he was not so bad after all.“When I called you,” I murmured, “I didn’t think you’d actually come.”He didn’t look at me. “I didn’t think you’d actually call.”Fair enough. The only reason I even had David’s number… was because he gave it to me to piss Nico off. When we pulled up outside the hospital, I stared at the building for a moment.“You sure they’re in there?” I asked.David nodded once. “Room 402. ICU, but stable.”I followed him inside. And then I saw them.My mom and dad were hooked up to oxygen masks. Both of them were pale.I broke.I didn’t care that the

HANNAHI really thought I was losing it for good this time.I stare at the man in front of me. Maybe the meds were messing with my head again. “Hey,” David said, walking straight toward me. “You okay?”I blinked. “Are you… real?”His brow quivered. “You tell me.”I just stood there. I had to be dreaming. No way in hell this was actually happening.“I found them. Your parents,” David said. That snapped me out of it. “You did?” My voice came out all shaky. “A-are they okay?”“They’re in the hospital,” he said. “Still unconscious. Smoke inhalation. But the doctors said they’ll be fine. They just need rest.”My knees nearly gave out. I grabbed the wall beside me just to stay upright.“Oh my god,” I whispered. “Thank you so much.”I didn’t even care that I sounded desperate. Just hearing they were alive made me calm down a little. My parents were okay. That was enough.I looked at David. For the first time since this whole nightmare started, I felt like maybe my gut hadn’t failed me.Davi

NICOShe was doing that thing again.Hannah was sitting on the bed. She was pretending I wasn’t even in the room.“Hannah.”No answer.I walked over, keeping my voice level. “Who were you talking to earlier?”She did that twitch-move with her hand. Then I saw it. The phone slipped under the mattress. Great. More games.“I’m not stupid,” I said. “I heard you.”Her cold eyes flicked up for one second. That pissed me off more than anything. She used to look at me like I mattered. Now I was invisible.I ha

HANNAHThe image of flames swallowing up rooftops wouldn’t leave my head. All I could think about was my parents. Were they okay?My fingers were still shaking when I picked up the phone again. I knew I had to call someone. But then again, Nico deleted all my contacts. There was one more option.David Vanderbilt.I could still remember his card. I’d stared at it long enough the night he saved me.He didn’t have to. He could’ve walked away like everyone else did. But he didn’t.I wanted to believe he would help. Because deep down, I knew David wasn’t like Nico.
