Chapter 6

Author: Wayfarer
Cole had expected her to be upset or even angry, but instead, she simply nodded calmly. "Alright. I actually have some things to take care of today too."

Not long after Cole left, Jaycie also headed out. She went shopping, picking out gifts for each of her close friends whom she was planning to meet later. When they gathered at the designated spot, her friends unwrapped the presents and gasped in shock—each box contained a brand-new luxury item.

"Jaycie, where did you get all these knockoffs? They look so real!"

"They're not knockoffs. They're genuine."

Seeing their disbelief, she couldn't help but laugh. She then revealed her true identity. "Actually, the story I told you about my father gambling and my mother being seriously ill was made up. I'm actually the only daughter of the richest family in Housleton. I'm saying goodbye because I'm going home to inherit the family fortune."

Her friends were stunned at first, then shocked, and finally overjoyed. They couldn't stop exclaiming, "I can't believe an heiress has been right here with us all along!" Their excitement was so loud it felt like the restaurant's ceiling might collapse.

Once the initial excitement died down, someone remembered Cole and asked, "But what about Cole? Does he know your real identity?"

At the mention of Cole, Jaycie froze slightly, her smile fading. "He's planning to marry someone else."

"What? No way!" Her friends were in disbelief. "He's always been so devoted to you. We've never seen anyone so head over heels for someone."

"Yeah, remember three years ago when you said you liked the Queen of the Night? He spent a fortune buying every single one of that plant he could find just to make you smile. And two years ago, when you caught the flu, he canceled a billion-dollar deal abroad and flew back to take care of you himself. He stayed up all night, refusing to sleep."

"And then a year ago, when you were in that car accident—the truck was heading straight for your side, but he swerved to protect you. You walked away without a scratch, but he broke three ribs and was in the hospital for three months, barely waking up. How could he marry someone else now? It doesn't make sense!"

Hearing her friends recount these memories, Jaycie felt a wave of emotion. Back then, Cole had loved her so much he would have given his life for her. But now...

She shook her head and smiled faintly. "He did love me, but his family thinks I'm not good enough for him and forced him to marry someone else. I didn't even get a chance to tell him the truth before he had the wedding invitations printed. From what he's said, he probably expects me to be his mistress after he's married."

Her friends were outraged.

"What? A mistress?"

"He wants the heiress of the richest family to be a mistress? He must've lost his mind!"

"Oh, he's going to regret this big time. Just wait until he realizes what he's lost!"

"Yeah, when he finds out you've left and your true identity is revealed, his family is going to lose it!"

Just then, Cole and Eileen walked into the restaurant. Hearing the commotion, Cole frowned. "What true identity?"

Seeing them walk in together, one of Jaycie's friends was about to lash out, but Jaycie stopped her. She looked at Cole and Eileen, her expression cool. "What are you doing here?"

Cole looked uneasy, avoiding her gaze. "The Bensons and the Wises have a business collaboration to discuss, so we arranged to meet."

Jaycie smiled knowingly. Of course she knew about their "collaboration"—it was a marriage arrangement, after all.

Because they were there to discuss their "collaboration", Cole and Eileen didn't join Jaycie and her friends. Instead, they sat at a separate table nearby, close enough for Jaycie to see their intimate interactions.

He cut her steak for her, and she shared her favorite dishes with him; he handed her a napkin, then she wiped a smudge from the corner of his mouth...

The back-and-forth between them made Jaycie's friends furious, but Jaycie herself remained calm, her expression unreadable.

"I'm not the one who brought down Benson Corp. You should be asking him for mercy."Jaycie gave a faint smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Besides, Cole, didn't you already do all you can to ruin what we had?"When he hid his engagement to someone else, planning to keep her as just a mistress by his side; when his friends, speaking in Frutunian, mocked and belittled her, and he never even considered stepping in to stop them; when Eileen and his crew spread lies about her, and he remained comfortably silent, acting like a ghost… Now, he had the audacity to bring up their past? Why didn't he remember what they had back then when he did all those things that hurt her?The color drained from Cole's face as her words hit home. He felt an unbearable dryness in his throat, and it became so hard to swallow that it felt like the weight of the world had settled on him. "Jaycie, I know I was wrong, and I'm sorry. But if this goes on, Benson Corp won't survive…"She shrugged nonchalan

Eileen had been completely abandoned.Jaycie didn't focus much on what happened after that. She trusted that with the capabilities of TruVision's legal team, those responsible would pay the price they deserved. However, when she heard that Eileen had ended up in court without even a defense lawyer to represent her, she couldn't help but feel a little pity. In reality, if Eileen hadn't foolishly provoked Jaycie, she could've easily kept up the illusion of a peaceful marriage with Cole and just be another typical story of an arranged union among the rich and powerful. But Eileen wasn't content. While Jaycie was still with Cole, Eileen tried to drive her away. When Jaycie left, Eileen shifted all the blame for her own suffering onto Jaycie, determined to crush her underfoot. In the end, though, it was Eileen who had fallen into ruin. Cole's group of friends, led by Wayne, had always believed in the idea that birthright determined everything and felt there was no way people of dif

  • Never Lonely Again   Chapter 22

As the roar of the car's engine faded into the distance, the resentment in Eileen's eyes deepened. She hadn't acted on impulse. Ever since returning from Housleton and learning that she had botched the bidding and angered the daughter of Housleton's richest family, the Wises had decisively abandoned her. Eileen had hoped to solidify her position with the Wises through her marriage to Cole, but the moment she mentioned it, her parents slapped her across the face. "How dare you even bring that up! The minute Cole came back, he came to us to cancel the engagement. You can't even hold on to a man. Tell me, what use are you?" It was only then that Eileen realized she had been abandoned by everyone. But why should she just take it? She felt like because of Jaycie, she was abandoned by the Wises and rejected by Cole. Why did Jaycie still get to look down on her from her high perch? She directed all her anger at Jaycie, dragging Wayne and Cole into her plan as she made one last d

Hearing the softness and urgency in Zander's voice, Jaycie felt the tension in her chest melt away. She let out a light laugh before responding, "It's fine. I'm not that fragile. It's just a rumor; I can handle it myself." "Okay." Seeing that she was in good spirits, Zander finally relaxed. He didn't want to hang up, but he wasn't sure what else to say. The silence stretched between them. After a long moment of quiet, Jaycie, even from the other end of the phone, could almost hear his shallow breaths. Finally, she broke the stillness. "Zander, thank you." Though she wasn't going to let those unfounded rumors get to her, she was grateful for his concern. Still, she didn't elaborate and quickly hung up. Meanwhile, Zander held the phone in his hand, feeling like time had flown by too quickly. If only they could stay in that moment forever, just like that—on opposite ends of the phone, in the silence of the moment, listening to her soft breathing. That would be enough. When M

Zander had been waiting for so many years, so waiting a little longer wasn't an issue. As Jaycie had said, they were just friends for now, and he was already content with that. After all, moving from strangers to friends was a step forward, and he couldn't ask for more. That night, unlike the two restless souls in Rochernia, Jaycie and Zander slept soundly. It wasn't until the next morning that Jaycie was awakened by the incessant ringing of her phone. Groggy, she opened her eyes and realized her social media account had been bombarded to the point of crashing. The relentless pinging of notifications filled the air, each one brimming with malicious insults. A quick glance showed nothing but vicious slander. Just then, a call from a Rochernia number came through. She answered, and it was a friend from her time in Rochernia. "Jaycie, have you seen what people are saying online? Those netizens are just repeating whatever they hear, believing anything! They're calling you a homew

The word "we" left both Cole and Eileen frozen in place, caught off guard. So, what he meant was that not only was he involved in the bidding, but Jaycie was, too? Looking around, they realized none of the information they read about the other bidders seemed to match Jaycie, and the only person left in the running was... Ms. Stanton, the only daughter of Housleton's wealthiest family. The realization hit both Cole and Eileen like a ton of bricks, and their faces drained of color. They glanced around at the crowd, who seemed to be watching the scene unfold with great amusement. In that moment, it became painfully clear to them—they were the butt of the joke. Cole's face shifted from pale to red, his temper flaring. He couldn't care less about the bidding war anymore and, in embarrassment, quickly made his way out of the banquet hall. After he left, Eileen shot Jaycie a venomous look, her hatred burning, and hurried after him, eager to escape the situation. Jaycie saw the hate
