Chapter Seven

Arian

I sit in a corner in the cafeteria just watching the kids interact with each other. During my time here, we would all queue in front of a table with our plates and wait for the staff to serve us. Then, we really couldn't afford to eat three square meals a day but the meals we ate were enough to satisfy us. Some of us.

I look down at my food with a small smile playing on my lips, I say a quick prayer then begin to eat.

"Hi!" A cheerful voice greets behind me.

I lift my head and turn to look at the person. It's one of the female staff and I force myself to smile.

"Hi." I say.

"Can I join you?" She asks.

"Um... Sure." I nod and gesture for her to take a seat.

"Thank you." She smiles and settles down on the chair opposite me.

I continue eating my food in silence hoping she'd do the same but I have no such luck as she takes her first spoonful of rice into her mouth, chews and swallows, then takes a sip of water and smiles widely at me.
