Chapter 2

作者: Knit Knot
Natalina's POV

Papa was rarely wrong about people. He called immediately after receiving my text and didn't question my decision or press for details. All he did was give me a few simple words of advice.

"The Famiglia will always be here for you, Natalina. Don't hold on too tightly to the past. The future is what you should be fighting for.

"But since you're coming home, I need to remind you of one thing—don't bring back what doesn't belong, and don't leave behind what's yours."

I knew what Papa meant. The thing I couldn't bring back was the child in my womb, and the things I couldn't leave behind were the shipping routes and businesses I spent years building for Antonio.

I nodded. "I understand, Papa."

After I hung up the phone, Antonio took me to a restaurant.

Sitting in the car, I noticed the lipstick stain on the car seat and caught the lingering scent of perfume in the air, but I said nothing. Instead, I played dumb, while Antonio seemed pleased by my compliance.

When we arrived at the restaurant, he reached over to help me out of the car. My heart throbbed painfully at the sight of the gunshot wound scar on his arm.

That was from the bullet he had taken for me during a gunfight years ago, and it was the exact moment I had fallen in love with him.

The Antonio I once knew treated me very well. He used to put me above everything else, protect me, and care for me. He could even remember every piece of jewelry that caught my eye for a second too long.

Unfortunately, everything had changed.

Before I could dwell on the nostalgia, a woman appeared and wrapped her arms around Antonio's.

"How could you have time to come out for dinner tonight, Don Antonio? You haven't visited me at the beach house in ages. Has that battleaxe at home been keeping you on a short leash again?"

The woman who had spoken was Aurora Lentini, a mistress Antonio kept out in the open—and who lasted the longest. She knew how to please him and always pitched her voice to that soft, coquettish whine he adored.

Right on cue, Antonio pulled out a bank card and handed it to her.

"Fine. I'll visit tonight. Just behave for now."

He didn't even forget to kiss Aurora right in front of me.

Looking at the bank card, I couldn't help but smile bitterly.

I had spent years working hard, managing his finances and business affairs, and yet he threw his wealth around to his mistresses without a second thought. Perhaps that kind of money meant nothing to him.

Antonio and I walked into the restaurant. Before we could even take our seats, hushed voices from people around us drifted over.

"Isn't that the daughter of the Corradini Famiglia? The Corradinis are the biggest mafia Famiglia in Cecialo."

I turned around and saw Aurora walking over in her high heels.

"What do you mean, the Corradini Famiglia? Get your facts straight. The Ragusas are the biggest mafia in Cecialo right now.

"That precious Principessa of the Corradinis, whom they protected for so many years, ends up being a housekeeper for the Ragusas now. What's there to be proud of?

"Besides, if she weren't pregnant with his baby, the Don would have thrown her out ages ago with that aged face of hers."

I couldn't help but let out a cold laugh at her words. Had I shown Antonio so much mercy over the years that even his mistress thought she had the right to mock me in public?

Aurora used to be a housekeeper by my side. With her pretty face and cheap charms, she climbed into Antonio's bed after my first miscarriage, or perhaps even earlier than that.

Perhaps it happened while I was out fighting on the streets, holding the line during turf wars for Antonio, or when I was taking bullets for him. I couldn't even keep track anymore.

All I remembered was lying gravely ill in bed, begging Antonio to see me just once.

In response, Aurora sent me a photo. It was an intimate picture of her and Antonio in bed.

Over the years, Aurora became increasingly arrogant, and it was obvious who was backing her up.

But I no longer cared. The only thing I needed to do right now was end the pregnancy. There was no way I would leave while carrying Antonio's baby.

I remembered leaving the estate full of hope and happiness, only to return with scars and heartbreak.I truly believed I had found a man who loved me with all his heart and never imagined it would turn out to be a calculated scam. The butler, Simone Bellini, stepped forward holding a black umbrella and bowed slightly. "Ms. Corradini."I nodded.Papa stood at the far end of the docks with a convoy of cars lined up neatly behind him. When I handed him the capital withdrawal papers and the Ragusa Famiglia's financial reports, he didn't even bother to look at them. All he did was pat me on the shoulder and say, "All that matters is you're home, Natalina. I trust you have your judgment on how to handle these people, so you make t

Her papa gave him the docks, she negotiated his shipping routes, and other Famiglie had only agreed to work with him out of respect for the Corradini Famiglia name. She took bullets for his sake, suffered miscarriages for him, and even while she was sick, forced herself to negotiate and fight in turf wars on his behalf. And yet, he took all of her sacrifices for granted.Antonio used to crown himself a genius, indulge in blind arrogance, and keep an endless stream of mistresses. Even when Natalina told him she was pregnant, all he had done was respond with a half-hearted "Oh, that's nice".It wasn't until she walked away for good an

Third-Person POVThe hallway fell into a brief, dead silence.Antonio stood frozen in place, his fingers gripping his car keys so tightly that his knuckles turned stark white. An abortion? He had seen Natalina visiting the hospital for her prenatal checkup two days ago, so how could she have aborted the baby? And even if she did, why hadn't she told him? And… Giannino mentioned that Natalina had returned to the Corradini Famiglia, hadn't she? Why? Was she planning something new? But if she was, why hadn't she talked to him about it?Antonio could feel his body go numb all over.A horrific realization struck him—he had neglected Natalina for so long that he had completely forgotten that once she made up her mind about something, she followed through with absolute unyielding resolve. Third-Person POVAntonio couldn't shake the feeling that something felt wrong. He hadn't dreamed of Natalina in ages, but tonight, he dreamed of the look in her eyes during their last fight. It wasn't a look of hatred or resentment. All she had done was calmly stare at him, as if she was looking at a ledger that was written off. That calmness unsettled him.He picked up his phone to call her, but two notifications caught his eye.The first was an alert from the Ragusa Famiglia's intelligence network with the headline reading, "The Corradini Famiglia is set to seal a marriage alliance with a Famiglia in Nipalino."The second headline read, "Multiple Famiglie have officially announced their withdrawal from all partnerships with the Ragusas. A catastrophic hit to the Ragusa Famiglia's financial chain is imminent."Marriage alliance? Withdrawal from all joint partnerships?Antonio recognized every word, but together, they made no sense.Natalina was clearly his wife and the Donna

  • Ninth Betrayal: Our Pact Ends Here   Chapter 4

Natalina's POVThe surgery went smoothly. In what felt like the blink of an eye, the child I had anticipated for so long was gone, and with it, my marriage was over.As I lay in the ward and stared out the window at the sky, I couldn't help picture Antonio's face in my mind.To this day, I still couldn't understand how we had ended up in our current state. Maybe it was the endless, petty arguments, or perhaps it was because of everything that had happened in the past. But none of that mattered anymore. Antonio didn't love me, so there was no reason for me to stay.I stubbornly forced my weak body out of bed to leave. As I made my way downstairs, I saw Aurora clinging to Antonio's arm, coyly swinging it and whining, "I did well, didn't I? I'm pregnant with a boy for you, and in seven months, you'll finally have your heir."Antonio smiled. The way he looked at her was soft and gentle—a look he had never given me. He went as far as to drape his coat over her shoulders and meticulo

  • Ninth Betrayal: Our Pact Ends Here   Chapter 3

Natalina's POVI went to the hospital the next day.Ignoring the doctor, Giannino Porcu's polite pleasantries, I went straight to the point and announced, "I want an abortion. Please schedule the surgery for me."Giannino froze. "But the baby is very healthy this time. You've spent so long trying to have a baby. Wasn't your goal just to have a child of your own?"Hearing Giannino's words, I couldn't help placing a hand over my stomach. My first miscarriage happened during the first year of my marriage to Antonio. Back then, the Ragusa Famiglia was in complete ruins and desperately needed money to keep operating.Since Antonio was unfamiliar with the Famiglia business, I had to travel around and manage operations on his behalf.I was ambushed on my way home from one of the trips.
