Chapter 6

Damon opened the car door with one hand and threw her into the car without trying to be gentle at all. When he slammed the car door shut, he said coldly, “Fasten your seat belt!”

Jeanette hummed in agreement and did not talk back, which was also very rare. She fastened her seat belt obediently.

The car finally started in a strange and inexplicable atmosphere. Jeanette stared at the view outside the window as the scenery moved past her. She had a guilty conscience, and it felt complicated and difficult to describe for a while.

This was the first time that she and Damon were around each other and did not argue and fight. However, the atmosphere was so quiet that it made her feel extremely uneasy.

Jeanette was in a dilemma during the whole journey. Eventually, she mustered up the courage to break the unbearable silence. “Where are we going?”

Damon stared at the road ahead and focused on driving. He did not give her an answer immediately.

Jeanette was a little frustrated, biting her lip. She was about to speak up to tell him that he could just send her home when Damon stopped the car. He said in a cold and indifferent tone, “Get out.”

Jeanette pushed the door open and got out of the car without saying a word. Her ankle still hurt, so she was limping when she walked, and her posture was awkward. She walked forward with her head down, but after taking a few steps, she realized she did not hear the sound of the car engine behind her.

When she looked back, strange enough, Damon’s car was still parked at the same spot.

Why didn’t he leave? Was it because he wanted to laugh at how she limped and her walking posture?

Jeanette felt rage in her heart. After picking up her pace and walking for a few more steps, she suddenly realized that there was a hospital by the road!

Damon had parked the car at the hospital entrance and told her to get out of the car, but he never left.

Was he… waiting by the entrance while he let her get her ankle examined? Was that it? Could she be mistaken?

Jeanette was surprised and apprehensive. This man had always been a prick. Since when could he be so kind? Could she be overthinking and flattering herself?

Jeanette hesitated and went to the hospital anyway. Regardless, if the man was still in front of the hospital after she got her ankle examined, then she would... get in the car again without hesitation.

Soon, she registered herself, got a form, and walked toward the elevator. The hospital was always crowded, so many patients were already queuing outside the elevator.

Jeanette was simply gazing around, but it was unfortunate that she ran into her enemy, Madison!

Madison happened to turn her head at that moment, and their eyes met. Jeanette’s face sank, and she looked away coldly.

“Oh, Sister!” Madison exclaimed as she made her way toward Jeanette. “Why are you at the hospital too? Are you sick?”

Jeanette wanted to ignore her as she did not want to argue with her in crowded places like the hospital.

Madison did not seem to mind at all. She touched her lower abdomen and said, “I’m here for a prenatal check-up.”

The calm facade that Jeanette had put on her face instantly cracked with a mere sentence.

“It’s Damon’s child!” She raised her chin triumphantly as she continued to show off. “Sister, did you know? Ever since I got pregnant, Damon has been very submissive to me. He never has the heart to say anything mean to me. It’s the complete opposite of how he treats you. He doesn’t even smile at you.”

Jeanette grabbed the strap of her purse tighter as she raised her head and looked at her with a strong, sharp glance. “Really? If he really loves the child in your uterus that much, why didn’t he personally accompany you to the check-up?”

Although Madison’s expression stiffened, she snorted. “Don’t you know? He doesn’t like hospitals! So I called him and asked him to wait for me outside!”

Madison initially said that to show off. Although she was simply making it up, she had coincidentally bumped into Damon, who was right at the door.

At the same time, it had unexpectedly and accurately hit on Jeanette’s sore spot.

So, it turned out that the reason Damon had sent her to the hospital and had not left was not because of her! It was because of Madison!

Needless to say, everything was just her own wishful thinking! Why would that man treat her so tenderly? He just wanted to divorce her!

Jeanette’s face turned pale, and the corners of her lips were awfully stiff.
