After wandering for a couple of hours and cursing myself with the harshest words, I think I hear something ahead. And it sounds like someone shouting!

Now would be the time to run without looking back—but no. Of course I head toward the strange, rather alarming sounds. Because where there are people, there might be help for my little companion!

Hiding behind a huge fallen tree, I carefully set the creature down and start to watch. And there’s plenty to see.

Several dozen meters away, on an open glade, something is happening. I see a very elderly man, decently dressed, being chased by several rough-looking thugs. They’re shouting and trying to catch the old man, who—despite his venerable age—clearly has no intention of giving up!

The grandpa weaves and dodges two huge brutes with bloodied cleavers. And now his path turns straight toward me!

Hiding even better, I see the old man running toward my shelter—but he catches on a root sticking out beneath the leaves and goes tumbling face-fir

Emotion nearly choked me. I tore my eyes away from him and turned in shock to the crowd behind me. I was searching for something… and I found it.Several rows back stood the woman I had seen. Silent horror was frozen on her face. Below her, three little boys were clinging to her, hiding their faces in their mother’s arms and quietly sobbing. My soul was being torn apart by what I felt. I was in shock, in outrage, in pure fury.“Release him! He is innocent!” I declared loudly, glaring at this grotesque spectacle of a crowd.“Naziza… you shouldn’t make hasty judgments…” Gerald began, but a surge of anger flooded me and I snapped.“I SAID HE IS INNOCENT!” My voice boomed like thunder from a clear sky—so powerful I barely recognized it myself. The square went so silent it felt as though the world itself had stopped. Everyone stared at me in shock, and even Gerald went pale.“Do as Naziza says,” the king ordered hoarsely, his voice trembling—and the man was released at once. The next two g

When I appeared before Gerald, I knew from the look in his eyes that I had done the right thing. The old man was staring at me with open admiration and obvious approval. Of course, the time I’d been given to create a new image was catastrophically short, but even that had been enough to make an impact.Among the piles of clothes, one outfit caught my attention. It was a short black top made of something that looked like leather. The moment I tried it on, I knew—it was mine. It framed my curves so perfectly, so deliciously, that it left plenty to the imagination, and I was thrilled. But when I found matching tight pants that hugged my beautiful ass in the most insanely sexy way, I completely fell in love with this bold biker-girl look. Bad girl in all her glory. On the dresser I also found makeup kits, and I couldn’t resist quickly completing the look with some daring makeup. Even done in a rush, it turned out stunning—especially after I added dark red lipstick. For a moment I even had

Sitting up in bed, I can’t quite tell whether I’m still dreaming or already awake. My hands are glowing—my whole body is glowing. Pushing past the panic, I realize I’m not in pain, but I’m terrified out of my mind. As I stare at myself, I see the light slowly fading until I look normal again. What the hell?! What was that?!I jump out of bed and go to the huge mirror. It’s still dark outside, but I can see myself in every tiny detail. I seem to be faintly glowing, like phosphorus. Looking around, I realize I can see perfectly in the dark. What kind of madness is this? And then I make the mistake of looking at Figaro, sleeping peacefully on the bed. My hair stands on end when I realize I can see slightly through him. Inside him there is a huge black mass of sticky webbing, crawling with swarms of disgusting spiders and horrible writhing worms. They’re gnawing into his flesh, causing him pain—he even whimpers softly in his sleep. My poor baby… I pray the witch doesn’t lie and really hel

Turab’s eyebrows shot up at such a loud and confident declaration. He looked at me even more intently, as if trying to find some kind of answers in me.After bowing, the guard left to carry out the order, and we continued our meal.“Who was that?” I asked. If I was going to stay here, I needed to understand who was who.“That was Turab, my chief guard and military instructor—a splendid and brave warrior,” Gerald proudly advertised his man. “I think I’ll assign him as your personal protector. You won’t find anyone more loyal and reliable in the kingdom. I’ll sleep easier knowing you’re under his protection.”I didn’t feel like arguing with the old king, so after dinner I went with Figaro, escorted by servants, to the room that had been prepared for me.My bedroom was enormous. Just like in Briol, the suite consisted of several rooms—a foyer, the bedroom itself, a bathroom, and a wardrobe. Everything was done in white and soft pastel tones, and for a moment I even wondered if I had ende

She stood with her back to me by the stove, not touching her ladles. Her shoulders were slumped, her head bowed.I picked up Figaro and stepped outside. Thick twilight had already settled over the forest. My heart felt heavy and confused after meeting this witch. She had helped us without asking my name, without demanding anything in return. She hadn’t tried to kill us—even after learning who I was. She had even told me to come back tomorrow.Maybe she wasn’t purely evil… maybe she and Kays simply had their own bitter history? But she had tried to kill us—more than once. Through the gorts, through the utulisks…A strange woman.Back at the road, I looked around for Mumrik—or Mimrik—Gerald, whatever his name was. After a moment of wandering, he found me himself. Muttering about how long I’d been gone, we finally set off toward Letid. The capital of Zergedia was nothing like Briol. And if things were this bad here, I didn’t even want to imagine what the rest of the kingdom looked like.

“So it really is me,” the old woman snorted. “Are we going to introduce ourselves, or are you finally going to show me who’s dying?”Pushing back my fear, I hurriedly held out Figaro. The witch pointed to her table, and I gently laid my little companion down. Laverna began examining him, running her crooked fingers over him from every side. She even checked under his tail—and after sniffing there, she grimaced. Then she grabbed him by the snout and lifted him to her face, sniffing. My blood ran cold when her twisted mouth opened, as if she were about to bite him… or eat him. I even twitched forward—but then her eyes glowed faintly, and black smoke began pouring out of Figaro’s mouth straight into Laverna’s.She started coughing violently, but she kept pulling that filth in, gripping the kizibara tightly. After a couple of horrifying minutes, she finally released him and clutched the table, looking drained.“Well, I’ll be damned,” she rasped. “That’s poisoning—and you brought him just
