Chapter 2

Author: Green Pick
The moment Sophia heard that I had called the police, she panicked so badly she nearly jumped in place.

"Nat, how could you call the police?!"

I looked at her frantic reaction and found it almost amusing. "I called the police to help this child find his biological parents, and to clear my own name. What’s wrong with that? Or are you afraid the police will discover that you’re the one who abandoned the baby?"

When I stared straight at Sophia, I clearly saw the flash of panic and fear that crossed her eyes.

Nevertheless, she recovered quickly and immediately turned to our parents for help. "Mom, Dad, listen to what she’s saying. Just to cover up the truth, she’s actually framing me in front of everyone!"

Mom frowned. "Natalie, apologize to your sister."

"She accused me without any evidence. Why don’t you make her apologize first?"

Dad shouted my name again, harsher this time. His eyes were cold, unquestioning, leaving no room for argument.

Watching how blatantly they favored Sophia, bitterness rose in my throat.

Even though they had done the same in my previous life, going so far as to throw me out of the house, they were still my biological parents. It would be a lie to say it didn’t hurt at all.

However, I wasn’t going to apologize, and I wasn’t going to hold on to even a shred of hope for them anymore.

In the middle of the standoff, the police pushed through the crowd and stopped in front of us.

"We received a report about an abandoned infant. Who made the call?"

I raised my hand and explained everything from beginning to end. "Officer, I want to review last night’s surveillance footage and see who actually left the baby at my doorstep."

The officer nodded. "We’ll check the surveillance footage. For now, we’ll take the child back to the station."

I handed the cardboard box with Tom inside to the officer. Suddenly, Sophia lunged forward and snatched it back.

"Officer, my sister already agreed to adopt this baby. There’s no need for you to take him away!"

She shot a look at our parents. They immediately understood and rushed to back her up.

"Yes, yes. Our eldest daughter here, Natalie, already agreed to take him in. Just leave the baby with us for now."

"I never agreed—" I had barely started to speak when Mom slapped me across the face.

"Shut up! Who told you to call the police? Haven’t you embarrassed us enough already?"

As she spoke, she dragged me into the house by force and locked me inside a room. However, I wasn’t panicked at all. I used the time to pack my belongings and get ready to move out.

After a long while, presumably after they had sent the police away, they came back carrying Tom.

Mom shoved Tom straight into my arms. "We brought the baby back. From now on, you’ll raise him."

I placed Tom down on the couch. "I never agreed. Whoever wants to raise him can do it themselves."

Mom was so angry that she pointed at my nose and cursed. "The incident today has already spread. Everyone says you’re the one who abandoned the baby. If you don’t raise him, you’re bringing shame to our family!"

"I already told you, this isn’t my child. If you want to raise him, then do it yourselves. Don’t try to force this on me!" With that, I grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door.

Dad stopped me. "Where do you think you’re going?"

"I’m moving out."

"Who allowed you to move out? If you dare walk out today, don’t even think about stepping back into this house ever again!"

Sophia rushed over and grabbed my arm. "Nat, you can’t run away from your responsibility like this. If you’re going to move out, at least take the baby with you."

I shoved her hard, sending her to the ground. "I’m not coming back. From now on, I’m cutting ties with all of you completely. Don’t ever come looking for me again."

Without sparing these so-called family members another glance, I turned around and walked away.

Sebastian sued Sophia until she was left with nothing. He reclaimed the villa and luxury cars he had gifted her during the marriage and left her without a single cent in assets.I also filed a lawsuit against her, demanding compensation for the emotional distress caused by her defamation of my family. On the day the verdict was issued, Sophia stood outside what had once been her home, dragging a suitcase and begging bitterly, only to be blocked by security and refused entry. With no other choice, she called our parents and squeezed back into that cramped old apartment overnight. For the next half month, Mom and Dad called me almost every day."Natalie, Sophia is so pitiful. We’re still family. If you have any empty rooms, why not let her stay with you?""I'm begging you as your mother. Just think of it as doing a good deed. Help Sophia and our family."Listening to their tearful pleas, I let out a faint, cold laugh."When you helped her frame me and ruin Elliot’s admission part

Hearing those words, Tom was completely stunned."Impossible! My parents died a long time ago! What right do you have to say you’re my parents?"I walked up to him and studied him carefully. Even though his hair hadn’t been trimmed in ages, hanging over his eyes, and his beard was unshaven, I could still recognize him. After all, in my previous life, I had raised him painstakingly for over ten years."You’re Tom, the one who grew up at the Westside Welfare Home, right?" I crouched down and looked at him with a smile. "Those two are your biological parents. If you don’t believe it, you can do a DNA test. And you can see for yourself that they’re not short on money."The moment money was mentioned, Tom’s eyes lit up. "Right, right, there’s no need for a DNA test. I’m your son! Dad, Mom, I’ve waited for you for over ten years. Take me home now!"The speed at which he switched faces was impressive even to me.Sophia shook her head, unable to believe what she was seeing. "I don’t bel

I held another admission party for my son. This time, Sophia didn’t show up to cause trouble. After the party ended, I received another call from Mom."Natalie, Sophia went to the police station but couldn’t find anyone. They said it’s been over ten years, and none of the officers remember that abandoned baby case anymore. If she wants to keep looking, she needs the original reporter’s ID!"I'm begging you, can you come back and help Sophia find her biological child?"I had already expected this. I replied lazily, "Mom, are you sure you still want to look? It’s been so many years. Who knows what that child has turned into? What if you find him and he comes back to drain you dry?""How can you talk like that? That’s still Sophia’s biological child! Besides, Sebastian has plenty of money. Raising one more child is nothing to him."Since they were determined to look, I didn’t bother stopping them. "Fine. I’ll help her look. But let me be clear. Whatever happens after we find him has

I had invited her here on purpose for this very moment.Susan took the microphone.I gave her a gentle nod. "Susie, don’t be nervous. Just tell everyone exactly what you saw back then.""I remember it was the dead of winter. Someone left a cardboard box with a baby inside at Natalie’s doorstep."Later, her parents forced Natalie to adopt the child. Natalie refused, so they called the police. The key point is that Sophia insisted from start to finish that the baby belonged to Natalie. She never once said it was a child she had given birth to!"The moment those words landed, the room erupted again.Smiling, I patted Susan on the shoulder. "Thank you, Susie. I’ll tell everyone the rest of the truth."With that, I projected a video onto the large screen. The footage clearly showed Sophia from years ago, sneaking over and placing the cardboard box with the baby at our doorstep.Sophia’s face turned deathly pale."So she was the one who dumped the baby at someone else’s door, and th

Sophia looked momentarily awkward, but she immediately wiped her eyes and put on the expression of someone deeply wronged."Kid, it’s not your fault if you don’t recognize me. After I gave birth to you back then, Natalie took advantage of a moment when I wasn’t paying attention and secretly snuck you away. Then she cut off contact with the family and moved out. I was busy preparing to marry Sebastian and managing household matters, so I never had the chance to come back and look for you…"Look, now your mom and dad are back. Langford Corporation will be yours to inherit in the future, too. Come back to your parents’ side soon."As she spoke, she deliberately straightened her posture, lifting a hand to caress the diamond necklace around her neck, flaunting the expensive jewelry she was wearing. In my previous life, Tom had run to her without hesitation the moment he saw who had more money. This time, things were completely different. She had no idea that Northvale Holdings had lon

On the day of the party, my parents arrived at the venue early. The moment Mom saw Elliot in his tailored suit, her face lit up with a wide smile as she rushed over, reaching out to pull him into a hug.Elliot smoothly stepped aside, dodging her embrace. A trace of distance flickered through his eyes.Mom froze in place, instantly embarrassed.Smiling, I wrapped an arm around Elliot’s shoulder. "Sorry. He’s never liked physical contact with people he isn’t familiar with."Dad’s face darkened immediately. He pointed at me angrily. "What kind of nonsense is that? We’re his grandparents by blood. How are we strangers?""You didn’t raise him, and you never fulfilled any responsibility as elders. To him, you’re no different from strangers.""You—!" Mom snapped, "How can you talk like that? We’re your parents. We’re your son’s grandparents!""I already cut ties with you a long time ago. I didn’t invite you here. If you’re unhappy, feel free to leave."I couldn’t be bothered to argue
