Chapter 4

Penulis: Lofty Concern
Suddenly, Maisie's phone rang. As she took it out, I caught a glimpse of Dash's name on the screen from the corner of my eye.

She released me, got off the bed, and looked down at me.

"Tristan, if you beg me to stay, I won't leave."

I let out a short laugh. "I'm begging you to leave as soon as possible. Every second you stay here makes me sick."

Maisie clenched her jaw in fury. "You'll regret this."

When she answered the call, Dash's voice came through the speaker. "I'm so sorry, Maisie. I promise not to fight you anymore. I'll stay by your side and behave. Please come back. I can't sleep without you here."

His voice softened as he spoke, dropping into a whisper. "I want to hold you, smell you, and feel your body…"

Listening to his words, I nearly threw up. I clenched the bedsheet hard to force down the wave of nausea rising in my throat.

So this was how intimate they were…

Maisie patiently soothed him and said, "I'm coming back right now."

After she ended the call, she walke

After the trip to the nursing home, Maisie took me back to the hospital. But I started vomiting blood uncontrollably before we could even make it.Her face went pale with fright, and she wiped the blood from my mouth in a panic."Hold on, Tristan. We're almost there. Please don't leave me, alright? I'm sorry I messed up. I swear I'll never hurt you again…"Her tears kept falling as she spoke, and she stepped harder on the gas.The taste of blood filled my mouth. By then, I no longer had any strength left to speak. As I slowly closed my eyes, my hand fell limp. This time, I was truly leaving.…Third-Person Point of ViewAfter Tristan died, Maisie was lost for days. She kept replaying his final moments in the car and wondered what he had been thinking about. Why had he looked at her with such utter despair? She began to loathe herself. She couldn't understand how she had suddenly become so twisted and vile.In the beginning, she just wanted to hurt Tristan and get a reaction o

My condition worsened the next day, and my heart stopped without any warning. When Maisie hysterically screamed for the doctors to save me, I finally had my answer—she would feel sad and cry when I died.Still, knowing the answer didn't make me feel any happier. The doctors fought with everything they had and dragged me back from the brink of death.Maisie's hair was a tangled mess as she knelt in front of my bed. "This is the first time in my life I've begged anyone, Tristan. I beg you—hold on a little longer and live just a few more days, alright?"I was on a ventilator and couldn't speak, so I traced the word "grandma" into her palm with my finger. For fear that she wouldn't understand, I used every last bit of my strength to write it again and again. She suddenly stood up and announced, "You can see her when you get better, so stay with us! Do it so you can see Grandma Eleanor again!"After saying that, she ran out.I stared up at the ceiling in despair. Was Maisie tryin

At the time, Maisie's face had twisted with anger as she hurled a cushion at me. "Get out! Who told you to come in here?"Again and again, she had hurt me for Dash and pushed me away. While they shared intimate moments, I lay alone in the empty house, writhing in pain.In the past, I desperately wished someone would come to my aid and save me, or at least ask if I was okay.Looking back, it wasn't that surprising at all. Dash was young and handsome, while I was so thin that I barely looked human. He and Maisie were truly the perfect match.Back in the present, Maisie's tears fell on my hand. She didn't respond to my words and grabbed a few tissues to wipe her tears instead."What do you want to eat? I'll get it for you, no matter what it is. You'll definitely get better if you eat properly."Her voice broke as she spoke, and her whole body trembled. "I-I'm sorry."I didn't accept her apology because I knew I would never forgive her in this lifetime. When I looked up at her re

Dash got on top of me and rained punches down on me. For a split second, I felt like I was just one step away from death, but I refused to give up and die just like that.I thought I would die from cancer—I had never imagined I would end up being beaten to death by the man I hated most. When Dash's fist slammed into my abdomen, I coughed up a mouthful of blood."Get away from him!"Maisie's face turned deathly pale with fright. She slapped Dash hard and pulled me into her arms, panic written all over her face. She frantically wiped the blood off my face. Her voice quivered as she called out, "P-please don't scare me, Tristan. Call an ambulance—now!"…In a daze, I overheard Maisie talking to Dr. Carson. He said, "Tristan could have extended his life with the special drug, but he called me earlier and said he didn't want any more treatment. After being beaten so badly, he doesn't have much time left. Don't put him through any more stress. Let him spend his final days in peac

I knew that Grandma's memory was slipping again, so I took a lollipop from my pocket and gave it to her. "Listen to the nurses, Grandma. I'll visit again and bring you some good chocolate."Grandma held the lollipop and stared blankly at me, clearly not understanding a word I said.Maybe that was for the best. It meant saying goodbye wouldn't hurt her. When I hugged her, my tears soaked her padded jacket. The pain in my abdomen reminded me that this was the last time I would see her.I wanted to live longer and stay by her side so badly, but reality was cruel. Life simply didn't work that way. After saying goodbye to Grandma, I went to see the nursing home's director in his office. Taking a bank card out of my pocket, I handed it to him. "This is to cover Grandma's stay here and care for the foreseeable future. I just want to know that she'll be in good hands."Two years ago, Maisie returned from abroad. I heard she had done exceptionally well and achieved both wealth and fa

Grandma held up the little outfit in her hands and waved it at me. "Look. I'm getting things ready for you and Mae. This will come in handy once you're married and have a baby."Tears instantly welled up in my eyes. To avoid disappointing her, I could only lie to her. "It's too early for that, Grandma."She shook her head. "I'm old. I can die anytime, so I have to prepare ahead of time. Oh, and why didn't Mae come with you today?"My chest tightened. A few tears slipped out and fell onto my pants before I could even stop them.Grandma used to adore Maisie. She had even hiked all the way up to a church on a mountain summit, just to pray for us and get protective charms for us.Back then, she said, "You're lucky, kid. I wouldn't have gone all the way to pray this hard if it weren't for Mae. I don't need you two to be rich. I just want you and Mae to be safe."Grandma had made us carry the charms everywhere to ensure our safety, but she had forgotten all about that now.Three yea
